Luis said he is not satisfied with the business. He went in for a smog check they told him he was missing a part. They gave him a quote of $900 plus. He went to another business that told him he did not need any parts. He was then charged $150 for a smog recheck. He said after they gave him a waiver then charged him again for another check. He stated he will never go there again because they are shady.

This is the second time in a few weeks where I was chastised for failing a smog. First off, I have less that 10% cars that fail, well below the state average. In fact the BAR reps have come in and told me my failure rate is too low in the past. When I inspected Luis' 1988 Ford Bronco, it failed 2 things-1) Bad gas Cap, which I replaced. 2) High emissions that was determined to be a bad catalyst. I went to my muffler guy and he checked out the "LEGAL" application for this year and model and found that it required 2 catalytic converters (in line) This vehicle had only one and a straight pipe to the muffler. The problem is, the state sends cars out like this all the time to catch smog techs overlooking things. These "undercover" cars are missing items required and we get $1500 fines and are required to take 8, 16 or 80 classes! I know this because it happened to me!!! I'm sorry that Luis' truck failed and welcomed him to get a second opinion. But that was to verify the truth not to have some other shop just pass him without checking the required equipment. Sorry again Luis' and I'm glad for you that you got your truck registered. Mike
