Vehicle was brought in for a transmission shifting complaint. We evaluated problem and found engine misfiring causing transmission to not shift properly. We evaluated that problem, then did a courtesy vehicle inspection. Estimated repair costs, contacted customer, customer declined repairs. We charged appropriate diagnostic fee. Customer came in to pick up vehicle, paid the bill, and talked with us about all the work that was needed on the vehicle. We made several estimates in order of priority, and customer said they would get back to us with what they wanted to do. We spent a lot of time on this vehicle, as it was the first time we've seen it and wanted to do a good thorough job with it. Did not know customer was dissatisfied with service or charges.
Peter requested that we diagnose a problem with his turn signals not working on the right, (passenger) side. Technician drove vehicle into shop, verified complaint. Technician could move the switch around and get the turn signals to work and not work. This is an indication of a faulty switch. New O.E. switch from Buick costs $658.58, aftermarket switch from one of our local vendors costs $524.54. Aftermarket switch from different local vendor costs $323.90, but we have had some problems with this brand of switch and did not recommend. Labor cost to replace switch is $62.37. We do not order parts "online" unless there are no other options. We try to use original equipment parts if possible or aftermarket parts from reputable local vendors. These parts are guaranteed.
