unqualified incompetent scams
they took my vehicle on a 20 mile joy ride, lied to me about "problems" and then tried to charge me outrageous amounts to fix it
Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/14/2014

I am very sorry about the experience you had during your last visit.  I will definitely be looking into your repair order and will be contacting you to get more details about your experience.  I did see that you came in for an inspection as well as an alignment.  Our technicians are required to test drive the vehicle as part of the alignment in order to determine if there are any drive ability concerns that need to be addressed but are not permitted to "joy ride" in a customers vehicle for any reason.  I will be back in the office on Tuesday and will be contacting you then.  Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.  Please don't hesitate to ever contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  I look forward to speaking to you.

Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/18/2014

Mike,

I have tried to contact you several times but must be calling at times that do not work for you, I just wanted to let you know that I reviewed our surveillance video to see who put the 20 miles, you mentioned in your review, on your vehicle. What I found is that after the technician checked the alignment he parked the Jeep and it never left the property until you picked it up. Perhaps you were mistaken of the mileage when you dropped it off with us. We have very strict guidelines and rules pertaining to test driving customer’s vehicles. I was glad to see you had the recommended repairs to the suspension corrected at our Centreville location 2 days after you were in our store. I hope that everything worked out well with the vehicle. Please feel free to contact us if there is anything we can do for you.

Sincerely,

Jason Mikolowski

Locked keys in car then hit me up for wipers
They locked my keys in the car and had to drive me home to pick up a spare set. Then made me buy wipers to pass my state inspection.

We do apologize for the inconvenience.  I have attempted to call to touch base with you about your visit.  Please give us a call back at your earliest convenience.  Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention so that we have the opportunity to make it right.  Hope to hear from you soon.

Overpriced manual labor
They charged me $75 for a $25-35 oil change, just because they didn't tell me exactly what oils they were using and throwing away. Unless you have the knowledge of what oils are needed in your car, don't go here for a change. DO IT YOURSELF.
Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/10/2014

I appreciate you taking the time to speak to me about this matter Mr. Kwiecien.  We do greatly appreciate these reviews as it brings these matters to our attention.  I will definitely be going over these items with our staff and we will stress the importance of being clear and having good communication with our customers.  Please feel free to contact me if you ever have a question or concern about your vehicle.  Thank you again.

Not What We Expected
We have had our cars serviced here for many years with typically good success. However, this time the problem was not properly diagnosed and repaired. They did some work, assumed it was fixed and did not test drive it afterwards. The problem was still noticeable as we drove away and we had to return back immediately only to now be told additional work was needed to fix the problem.
Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/10/2014

I'm sorry to hear about the poor experience you had with us during your most recent visit.  I know that you have been coming to our location for years and we greatly appreciate your business.  I will definitely be looking into the matter and will be giving you a call later on as well.

Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/10/2014

I'm glad we were able to speak earlier today.  Thank you for taking the time to go over everything with me.  As soon as it is convenient and possible please bring the vehicle back in so we can check over the balancing and address the vibration concern.  Again, we appreciate our customers and we thank you for being a loyal customer over the years.  Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any other questions or concerns.

We appreciate you taking the time to write this review.  I know you have been coming here for years and we appreciate your business.  We regularly compare our pricing to the rest of the industry in the area to make sure that we stay competitive in our pricing.  We also match any local competitors pricing on service while still offering our 2yr / 24k mile warranty.  I will be contacting you as well to go over everything with you.  I again want to thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Dissapointed
This was by far and away our worst experience at Virginia Tire. We are long standing customers and have been going to the business for years. Unfortunately what started as a quick visit for new tires turned in a long afternoon and evening of disappointing events. To sum up the issues, the entire visit took 6 hours, only 2 tires we originally put on the car despite purchasing 4, a tire pressure sensor was broken, 2 tire refill caps are still missing, none of the service reminders were reset, and we had to come back to the store as when driving the car the car did not drive straight after alignment. These series of events lead us to be concerned regarding whether we choose to continue our business here at Virginia tire.
Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 12/01/2014

We want to apologize for your extremely poor experience you received from us during your last visit.  I will be looking into what happened with your vehicle as well as I will be reaching out to you personally to talk to you about your experience.  We appreciate your business over the years and we want to continue to be your vehicle repair facility.  Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention so that we have the opportunity to make things right.

It was nice talking to you sir and I appreciate you taking the time to do so.  Please feel free to contact me anytime you ever have a question or concern with any matter.  We look forward to seeing you again.

Did not provide services correctly
Came in for oil change and tire rotation. Oil was leaking the next day and found tires were never rotated as stated and charged for. A one time visit ended up being three different visits.

Poor customer service
Went to the cascades shop for oil change. Service tech advised to replace a burned out tail lamp as well. I asked the front desk person for a discount on the labor fee (which was very high). The front desk person and his manager were condescending in their response. They did not give me a discount on the labor. The service tech had already started the work, so I didn't feel like making the tech undo what he has started. In any case, they made me feel very bad. I hope they learn to treat customers right.
Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 11/19/2014

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.  I did look through your history and I saw that we actually have replaced different bulbs for you at the same price over the years.  We frequently check our market to make sure that we are staying competitively priced on all of our services.  I'm sorry that you did not have a good experience with our personnel during your visit with us.  There is no excuse for anyone to ever be rude or condescending to our customers.  I will definitely be looking into the matter so that I can address this with our staff.  Again, thank you for taking the time to write this review.  If you ever have any other questions or concerns please bring it to our attention and feel free to contact me.

I was happy when Jason contacted me...I really do not like to complain but I was just not happy by how the other mechanic was looking at me like I don't know what I'm talking about. Again Jason thank you for contacting me. I have been coming there for many years and have never had any issues...this was the first time. The way you handled this was very professional.

CAR
I have been coming here for a couple years now. I came to get my oil change & safety inspection only and when it was done I was told something was wrong with my car and the check engine light was coming on. I let them know when i brought it in my car was perfectly fine which it was. They didn't know what to tell me and looked at me like i didn't know what I was talking about. They didn't even offer to take a look at it since it might have been something that was accidentally done there. So I left and called my mechanic and when he checked why my car to see why my car was shaking and why the check engine light was on....mind you that light has never came on not once ever since I had that car...he said there were some lose cables in my car.

very bad estimate on brake fix
I took my truck in to get a brake line fixed. The gal behind the desk quoted me $650 to order a brake line for the rear, saying they needed to remove the gas tank to replace. They wanted to keep the truck for 2 days. I went to advanced auto, bought 1 line, 1 compression fitting and 1 qt of fluid. did it myself for $23 in one hour.

Jason M. from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 10/21/2014

We appreciate you taking the time to write this review.  We wouldn't want you or any of our customers to ever feel like we are overcharging.  The estimate provided was to replace the whole brake line section that was leaking from the front all the way to the back.  We would have to remove the fuel tank in order to do so.  We also do not use compression fittings because they do not always hold up to the high pressure from the brake system.  We use brake line unions and we flare out the line so that it seals.  We offer a two year / 24 thousand mile warranty on the work we do so it has to be done in a way that we can stand behind our warranty.  If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us.

Made car worse not better
Took my car in to check a fluid leak. They charged to clean the battery of the car and then when my wife picked it up said the battery was about dead. Never had a problem with it before. After literally driving the car away from their shop it died. They did come to jump the car which was nice, but it's too coincidental that the battery died after never being an issue before taking it in. Very fishy. Taking car there was bad choice. Won't be going back as it caused more headache than good.

No quality control
We put our SUV in for a used car check up. They said they checked everything, gave seal of approval and $400 later we felt good about everything. Strove to food lion and realized there was a low front tire. Took back the next morning and repaired. Said they were sorry. We were home today cleaning it and checked the fluids. No window shield fluid. The told me twice on the phone they checked all fluids and capped them off. We will go back AGAIn and have them go over everything they said they did because the trust evaporated. Four weeks ago we had another SUV in for oil change and they forgot to put the plug in. Front desk is nice but I don't think there is quality control. I won't return to a place that I have to double check their work. We are traveling out of town Sunday so again another inconvenience

Poor customer service
We dropped our car off for emissions/inspection, we were told it would take no more than an hour and a half. We called two-three hours later and were told it wasn't ready and that they'd call when it was ready. I called back thirty min. later and was told again that it wasn't ready, so I told the person on the phone to send the shuttle to pick me up and to stop inspecting the car because I didn't have any more time to wait. He put me on hold and transferred me to service. The guy in service claimed that he had called a while ago to tell me that I need two wiper blades to pass state inspection. I told him that my cellphone, which is the number I left for them to call, never rang nor did my house phone and both of which showed no missed calls or voicemails. His response to that was "oh, well I did try calling. What would you like to do about the wipers?". I was peeved about the way he didn't care about the inconvenience I was caused, waiting a lot longer than I should have, and the lack of apology for never being called. I know that one of my wipers needs to be replaced, but the other was just replaced a few months ago and is in fine working condition. I think you guys care more about up-selling products whether it is needed or not and getting every dollar you can from ever car that goes thru the shop rather than focusing on customer service and making the customer trust you. Needless to say, after I get the car reinspected I won't be returning.

Not happy
Went in for a state inspection...received phone call that my car had passed. Couldn't pick up my car until late afternoon....dead battery! They left my lights on all day. Then they did a test and said I needed a new battery and only offered $20.00 off. I asked them to pay at least half...they did, but I got the bigger half....over $71.00! I had not planned on spending extra. Not going back. I've been a customer for many years.

Suspicious Failed Safety Inspection
I was very disappointed that my vehicle failed due to an apparent leaking strut assembly. when i asked the service writer to show me and explain how the strut assembly could have slight, old, dried fluid residue on the bottom end of the strut which was a solid piece of metal but there was no fluid on the actual strut and no residue on the actual strut, he was unable to give me an answer. I explained that this fluid could be from anything, what proof is there that the strut is leaking, he was unable to give me an answer. This was disappointing as it seemed that the tech saw old fluid residue and saw dollar signs instead of verifying that the strut was indeed leaking. Fluid residue on any part of the car cannot be sufficient proof for failure of state inspection. I have been a constant customer for the past 7 years, and this is quite disappointing, i will not be taking my vehicles to a place where the tech is using the safety inspection to write up high dollar parts.

don't fall for emergency brake scam
My review is a bit more of a warning to other customers than a review. I fell for the your emergency brake failed inspection and needs to be replaced twice at this station (different years - same vehicle). On the third failure I was told that the emergency brake cable had stretched and was at the maximum adjustment and was given a $568.00 estimate to replace them. I then was told that if I would like, Bob (the manager that was not there) would call me and I said yes. I'm still waiting for that call. In the mean time, I went to a real service station and watched as the mechanic trouble shot the problem. Turns out on one of the previous two occasions that VA Tire and Auto charged me for replacing the emergency brakes, they misassembled the adjuster without the pin, so adjusting in either direction neither loosened or tightened the brake. The pin was inside the adjustor housing, once installed inside adjustor, it adjusted properly, and the emergency brake holds fine. I hope that VA Tire and Auto will offer a refund for at least one of the two times they failed my vehicle for emergency brake inspection and charged me for replacing my emergency brakes. Really - stretched steel cables - how many customers fall for that. You can still call me or I will write the Better Business Bureau. Ray Fisher

Never Happy
I usually don't have much good to say about them. Make sure you specify what oil change you want or they will charge you the max amount. They didn't do any extras to help my car...my maintenance light came on two days after their oil change.
Bob Booth; M., General Manager from Virginia Tire and Auto of Cascades responded on 05/31/2014

I am very sorry you feel that we have taken such liberty’s with regards the type of oil change service we perform, I reviewed your history back to 2011 and we have been using the same synthetic blend type of oil every time. We would never perform a more expensive service without your approval. I will make sure the staff is very clear on this from now on. The employee that performed the last service on your car has been disciplined for missing the maintenance light reset on your car, this is part of the procedures we are supposed to follow on every car. Please stop by at your convenience and we will not only reset the light but redo the entire service to make sure it was done correctly.
Thank You,

Downhill
The service at this location has been good, not great, over the last few years. My family and I have all been going to this location for years because of the great location to our homes. The few times I have been in there, it was not good. I went to get my tire checked because it kept losing air. They told me it was one part (seal) and "fixed" it. I went to my wedding festivities the next day and didn't get back to my car until two days later in the parking garage, untouched, and it was completely flat again. So the first thing we did as newlyweds was change my tire. Needless to say I was pissed. That day we had deal with post-wedding stuff and also go back to this location to get it "fixed" again. Now they were saying that I needed a whole new tire and that the sensor needs to be replaced. More money was exactly what I needed after our wedding. Then, they said the tire wouldn't come in until the next day, so I had to stay home from work while it was getting fixed. Went to pick it up and paid so much money, got in my car, and BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP is all i hear. The tire sensor warning was beeping on my electronic dash. Went back inside and told them. They discussed for like 10 minutes only to come back and tell me that the desk guy (pretty sure the young gentleman's name was Mike) thought the other people were going to call me, but they were telling him to call me, so basically no one called me to tell me about it. Then they realized that the scanner they have to turn off that notice was not updated so they would need me to come back the next day when it is updated for 10-15 minutes. The next day I received NO call. I then went on my honeymoon the following day and came back a week later (now two weeks from the original first time I got it "fixed") and called them because I still had received NO call or no voicemail about my car. The gentlemen on the phone had to again do the research on what happened and had to call me back twice. Then they said that some guy there said that they have done it before through the computer but not on my specific car model but they would be able to do it. So my husband and I wasted another entire Saturday morning for them to "try" to do it. They came out and said they couldn't and that I would need to take it to the dealer. The closest dealer being in Maryland. I left again angry. I had usually had good experiences other than the fact that almost every time I went to get something done at this location, when I got back in my car, my settings and stuff were all played with. They do not need to be touching anything inside my car or trying to set anything with that. I have yet to have time to take a day trip to Maryland to get the tire sensor warning turned off so I get to hear and see the lovely beeping all day every day when I'm in my car. It is fantastic. Thank you for the great business... A heads up would have been nice that you just couldn't do it. You're welcome for all of the time and money that I have put into your location.
