Did what I asked, but....
The service recommendations seemed to be designed more to generate business for the service department, than what the car really needs at present. They're OK, but this is the reason I checked "no" below.

Great mechanics.
Thought I was going for maintenance but was corrected at the Desk and was told that the car was due for an oil change only. Replaces equipment with Honda parts.

They are overcharging
I generally get good service and believe they are honest about what needs to be repaired, however, this time I got a quote of "$1083.32" for replacing my front struts. I checked the RepairPal website and the Fair Price Estimate was $553 to $718. I did not order the work done and mentioned this to them when I picked up the car. I also emailed a copy of the estimate and asked them to explain why their's is hundreds of dollars more but have not received an answer. This shop participates in the RepairPal website and agrees to abide by their estimates. I had the work done at another shop for around $700. I am very disappointed at their attempt to overcharge me and will not be returning.

Would not recommend as they are very expensive. charged me $100 to inform me they would charge me $750 for my front light of my Acura. Not good business!!!!

Great Place
I've been going to Automotive Instincts (formerly Steve's Independent) for over 25 years. They are honest and do the job right the first time. I've never had to bring the car back because it wasn't handled properly the first time. They're not the cheapest place around for sure (little less than Dealer), but you know you're getting high quality work and recommendations for repairs only on what "needs" to be done. They're not going to gouge you or tell you to fix something unless it's necessary

Needed a Look-See before buying
Great mechanics. Took time, did a fantastic inspection & helped me make a decision. {also, helped the friend I was going to buy car from find a non-Japanese car mechanic in the area].

Still my favorite place
I always feel confident when I bring my little Honda Fit here for servicing, trusting that they're honest and know what they're doing; plus, their customer service is great!

This time I did have a couple of disappointments, unnoticed until I was back home. First, they'd tightened my emergency brake so tightly that I have to use two hands to pull it up at all, and two hands to release it! It's gotten a bit easier in the days following, but next time I'll check it before leaving.

And second, I discovered I was charged for a replacement of the window wiper for the back window, which I'm sure wasn't needed since I've probably used it once in the 10+ years I've owned the car; I find those wipers useless! It didn't cost me much, but I wish I'd realized they were including that when they replaced the other wipers.

But other than that, no complaints!

The best shop in LA and beyond!
I've been a loyal patron of this shop since my college years, going as far back as early 1990s. It was called Steve's Independent before it had been re-branded as Automotive Instincts. Notwithstanding the name change, it is indeed the only shop in LA that I trust and rely wholeheartedly and without any hesitation.
It is such a rare occasion and such relief to find honest, professional, and dedicated mechanics nowadays who constantly give their best to customers.

Wheel alignment
I came in to have an alignment after replacing my tires and it was done in less than ann hour while I waited. i always receive excellent service at Automotive Instincts which is why they have been our only mechanics since Steve opened his business

Wonderful Service as Usual
I have been a customer at Automotive Instincts for several years now. I was referred to them by my best friend and her husband who have been customers of theirs for over 25 years. Automotive Instincts is an organization that truly cares about their customers. When you take your car to them for service they are honest a iut what needs to be done without doing other repairs that are unnecessary. If there is something you need to have fixed or replaced on your car but it can wait a little while, they will give you a recommendation and an estimate of when that repair needs to be done. I will continue to take my car there for as long as possible.

The place is very inviting and the service terrific
I was directed here by my son and was treated very well my car was taken care very diligently and I was made aware of the procedures in order to service my vehicle.
I found the staff to be very knowledgeable and understanding and I found the cost to be appropriate and reasonable. I will definitely continue as a client. I have finally found a place in this town that is really good and I feel very confident bringing my vehicles here I say that because we have two vehicles and I can trust Automotive Instincts to provide us with the best affordable service.
