EXTREMELY LONG WAIT, 8 hours for a simple inspection
I needed a state and emission inspection done and an appointment was schedule a week and a half in advance. We dropped the car off at 8:15am. We checked back around 3pm and they haven't even started the process yet! It was finally done around 4pm. A simple inspection like this should never take almost 8 hours! I have had this done at other places in around 30 minutes before so this is totally unacceptable. To treat us like our time is worthless, I don't think I will go back to this place again.

I spoke with Mr. Low in regards to his latest visit to The Brake Shop & Auto Repair. He explained to me that he was unhappy with the amount of time it took to perform the State Inspection and Emissions test and the lack of communication from my staff.  I explained to Mr. Low that when vehicles are dropped off with no specific pickup time we assume that the vehicle is to be ready by 5:00 pm.  Mr. Low explained to me that he was never told that when he dropped the vehicle off.  I assured Mr. Low that this will never happen again and that his vehicles will be handled in a timely manner and returned to him by his requested time.  Mr. Low was appreciative that I reached out to him, but that does not change how he felt about his visit.  I explained to him that I completely understand where he was coming from.  I explained to him that we have over 900 positive SureCritic reviews and that customer satisfaction is our main priority.   I also made him aware that I would be responding to his post as per our conversation and he was ok with that.  Myself and the staff at The Brake Shop & Auto Repair look forward to helping the Low Family with all their vehicle repair needs for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Michael said he was not satisfied with his overall experience because they tried to put in a new blower fan, and they burned it out. He paid a lot of money and now he was left with nothing. He is driving around with no fan. As a result of this experience, he will not recommend this business for service and will tell others not to go there.

Mike S., General Manager from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 03/11/2016

I spoke with Michael this morning in regards to his submitted Sure-Critic Review. When Michael contacted me in regards to his blower motor not working, he made me aware that he diagnosed the motor be faulty and would be providing the part himself for us to install and it was not necessary for us to do our diagnostic. I explained to him that we would install the blower motor as per his request, but if it did not work we could not accept responsibility being that we did not diagnose the original concern. We installed his provided blower motor and the problem still existed. We made Michael aware of this and offered to him for us to further diagnose the issue. Michael declined our diagnostic and mentioned that he was going to get rid of the vehicle.
After speaking with Michael this morning and discussing the previous conversations we had during his visit, Michael decided he would like to bring the vehicle in for us to perform a diagnostic test and advise him of what we found. Michael said he was very appreciative of me reaching out to him and will be in soon to have us look deeper into the problem.

We have trired to contact Zakkiyah to discuss the 1 of 5 Star Rating.  Zakkiyah states that she would recommend us and the quality of service was "good".  We are thinking and hoping that it was a misunderstanding in the star rating with 5 being the highest rating not the lowest. We will continue to try and make contact with her or hopefully she will respond to our response.

VERY UNSATISFIED
LEFT MY VEHICLE AT THIS FACILITY FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION. MY WIFE WENT TO THE STORE AND NOTICED MY VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT WITH THE WINDOW OPEN AND THE VEHICLE RUNNING. EMPLOYEE WAS INSIDE THE BUILDING SHOPPING AND LEFT VEHICLE UNATTENDED. SHE WAS JUST READY TO PULL THE VEHICLE AWAY WHEN THE EMPLOYEE EXITED THE STORE. THE EMPLOYEES RESPONSE TO THIS SITUATION WAS " ALL STATE INSPECTIONS REQUIRE A ROAD TEST". I ASKED HIM IF THE STATE ALSO REQUIRED HIM TO GO SHOPPING ON MY GAS AND TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE RUNNING WITH THE WINDOW OPEN UNATTENDED? BRAD HE OWNER STATES HE CAN NOT FIRE HIM FOR THIS BECAUSE HE NEVER TOLD HIM IN WRITING THAT HE COULN'T SHOP ON A TEST RUN AND HE COULD GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE LABOR BOARD IF HE FIRED HIM!!! I THOUGHT IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO LEAVE A VEHICLE RUNNING AND UNATTENDED. THEY DID NOT OFFER ME ANY FREE SERVICE FOR THIS HORRIBLE STRESSFUL SITUATION AND WILL NEVER TRUST THEM AGAIN.
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 08/30/2012
I personally spoke with Karen & Bob Parella Wednesday, 8/29/12 in regards to the situation that took place during their visit to The Brake Shop & Auto Repair. I explained to them that I had taken full responsibility for my technician stopping at the store with their vehicle during the test drive. In my 22 years of business my policy has always been that customers vehicles are to be test driven only with no stops along the way. Although I feel it is common sense on his part, he stated to me that he was never advised of the policy in which he is correct, I just took it for granted that he knew. I deeply aplogized to both of them for this situation and asked them to please judge the shop on their past positive experiences they have had with us and that we would love to keep them as customers. I believe that Karen was satisfied with our conversation and I did advise her that I was going to respond to her review. Karen stated that is was ok with her to write that we spoke. Again, I express my apologies to Karen & Bob. Brad Fleming, Owner

Thomas said the business provides good service at a fair price but he does not like their dishonesty. He was told he needed new brake drums because they were not the correct size. He opted to purchase his own brake drums and install them himself. He then realized there was nothing wrong with the drums in the first place.

Mike S., General Manager from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 04/12/2017

I spoke with Mr. Marsters this morning and explained to him that when his vehicle was test driven there was a brake vibration coming from the rear brakes. Upon further inspection it was determined that the rear brake drums were warped. There was a breakdown in communication during the explanation of the concern.  Mr. Marsters was told his drums were too big. What was meant by this was that we could not resurface his brake drums to remove the pulsation because they would have exceeded the maximum allowable limit by the manufacturer.  After explaining this to Mr. Marsters he understood what I meant. I apologized and reassured him that we take our reviews very seriously and that we take great pride in being very honest about what is needed and not needed on the vehicles we repair.

I spoke with Joseph in regards to his concerns with his recent visit to The Brake Shop & Auto Repair. He explained how he was very satisfied with the level of service he initially received. However, a few days later his low tire indicator came on.  When he stopped by to have it checked, he backed into a guard pole surrounding our air conditioning unit when I asked him to pull his vehicle to the front of our bay doors. I expressed my concern as it was unfortunate that he had to stop back and secondly, I should have pulled the car around for Joseph.  I asked him to come by and allow myself to review his invoice for the body work needed for the incident.  Joseph stopped by the shop and we offered to pay for some of the body shop invoice and give him a credit for future services.  Joseph was pleased and accepted the offer.  Joseph also stated that he would re-rate his service on the Sure-Critic website.  We look forward to servicing Joseph's vehicle and greatly appreciate his understanding of the situation.

Had a "leak" from my Air Conditioner ( and other repairs were made/inspection at this time ) Told them 1st time in..They could not locate it, filled it with FREON and put a "die" into it..so if it leaked..we would find it. Approximately 2 weeks later..only hot air..Took it back..found the leak, replaced the needed part(s). Was charged (again) for LABOR. I understand the first charge for LABOR ( again, I did state I had a "leak" at that time ), Sorry, this was extremely expensive, and I will not be back here again.
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 07/11/2013
Two attempts were made to contact Dennis to discuss his concern with no return response. During the vehicles first visit, no obvious leaks could be determined; our procedure is to fill the system with nitrogen and monitor for a leak, no leaks were found. Next we pull a vacuum on the system and monitor to see if the vacuum is maintained. We then fill the system with the proper amount of freon and add a dye to the system so if there is a future leak, it can be detected easily. The vehicle returned 26 days later blowing warm air, which indicates a small leak due to the time it took to blow warm. At this time we were able to determine that the AC Condenser was leaking freon. This was reviewed and approved by Dennis for repair. Dennis was only charged for 1/2 hour of labor to refill the system with freon not the 1 1/2 hour initial charge. All of the charges were discussed at the counter with Dennis during pick up along with letting him know that he was not charged the full 1 1/2 hours of labor to refill the system. Dennis did not indicate he had any issues with the service or price.

Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 11/28/2012
I contacted Dominick Basile in regards to his concerns. Dominick has asked someone to call him back from Surecritic so he can retract the negative review. He did not realize that he did receive the discounts for the coupons he brought in. The confusion was that he was under the impression that he was entitled to an additional AAA discount; our policy is that you cannot combine other offers, which is stated on all coupons. We make it a practice to make sure the customer gets credit for the offer that will save them the most money towards their invoice.

Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 03/07/2017

I spoke with Shirley in regards to her review.  We are a little confused on why she gave the review that she did.  I explained to her that she recieved the coupon pricing on both her PA State Inspection and her Vehicle Maintenance Special which included an oil/filter change, topping off of her fluids and a complete maintenace inspection of her vehicle.  She understood that she paid exactly what the coupon pricing was that she brought in.  Her invoice totaled $90.68 including taxes for all the services she asked for and understood the invoice.  When I spoke with her, she said that she felt that it was a little expensive.  We are sorry she feels this way and I wish she would have mentioned that when she was in for the service.  We appreciate Shirley's business and welcome her back at any time for us to service her vehicle.

As I indicated before, it is a pleasant, well managed shop for a lady to take her car.
Brad called me and was a very caring, concerned owner. He now knows that I realize mistakes/wrong decisions are made at times, and it didn't mean that I wouldn't come back. He generously offered me a L & O at no cost.

It's a clean, well managed shop with courteous employees.
This year I'm sorry to say was disappointed. I came in for inspection and a L & O. I don't think fast and Chip made me think the brake fluid and filter were connected to passing inspection. I didn't hear him say that much over $100, plus he should have given me the option of coming back another day. Almost $200 and sitting there for 3 hrs. both were a hardship for me. And I'll still have to get the L & O before winter.
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 10/07/2014

I have left a message for Linda to call me back so we could discuss her concern and where the miscommunication may have taken place.  I appreciate the positive comment and recommendation, but it is very important to me that we are both on the same communication line and that Linda is satisfied.

Again they mark on my bill that my tires were rotated but when I got home. Tires weren't rotated I could tell because I have slow leak in back tire. And I have differ trim on back. Still in the same place. I called they told me to bring it back in. I feel it should not have happened in first place
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 09/02/2014

The PA State Safety Inspection Coupon that Mark had used automatically adds the rotation to the invoice.  According to our vehicle check out sheet, the front and rear tire treads were all even at 10/32 of an inch and indicated on the sheet by the technician that they were rotated.  We were not advised by Mark of his tire leak or we would have fixed it for him.

If the tires were not rotated as indicated by Mark due to the different trim in the same location, I apologize; we advised him when he called that we would gladly rotate the tires for him.

We can not seem to satisfy Mark; we have 538 positive reviews and Mark has sent two non-satisfying reviews in within the last two months.  We want Mark happy and confident with his service and I think he knows that we will go to great levels to make that happen.

Service!
I had a small problem this time around. My appointment had been mistakingly written down elsewhere and the gentleman at the gate thought I was someone else coming in for an inspection, which I had two weeks prior. We then realized that somehow my insurance card is missing, which had been in the hands of The Brake Shop. Now I need a replacement card.

This is the first time the service had not been exemplary, but we all make mistakes. Usually the service outshines all comers.
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 09/28/2013

We contacted William to discuss his concerns. We admit that we did make a mistake with the scheduling; we inserted the appointment for Tuesday rather than the requested day of Thursday. The advisor that William was greeted by at the counter is a new advisor and did confuse the service for a state inspection due to our mistake with scheduling.  In regards to the insurance card missing; we discussed it with William and that concern has been solved.
Again we apologize to William; he is a great customer and our main concern is that he is happy.

Large Expense on a car approaching 100K miles
Very unsure if this is the shop that I want to be my "go-to" for future repairs for my three cars. Expenditure was very high as a percentage of the NBV of the car. I don't have a strong feeling that this was a good investment. I guess time will tell. I was just hoping that I could find a place where I was sure that I wasn't just being hosed. I think that a lot of car repair/maintenance places don't understand that the customer may not be interested in just chiseling the last nickel out of a business owner---they just want to know that they can leave their car at a place where it will be repaired to a safe condition at a fair cost. I'm not saying that this business hosed me-----It's just that the total cost was very high and I have no confidence that tomorrow I may have to invest a like amount to keep it on the road, but I will them be at a point where it would have been better to just trade it in. A small thing was that I left a coupon for a "free" PA inspection, but the invoice was as difficult to read as a cell phone bill, so I don't really know if I got credit for this dopey little coupon. Bottom line--jury is still out--I just wish it wasn't so expensive for me to test the waters.
Brad F., Owner from The Brake Shop & Auto Repair responded on 04/16/2013
I contacted Paul to discuss his concerns he had with his last visit. Paul was fine with the work he was just concerned with investing the amount of money into his vehicle with that high of mileage. I insured him that doing that type of service at 1000,000 miles could get him another 100,000 miles of life. I also emailed Paul another version of our invoice which is easier to understand in which we have changed for all customers moving forward; this also shows discounts or coupons in an easier manner. I advised Paul that we were going to reply to his concerns on our SureCritic site and he was okay with it. Mike Stefano, Manager
