Failed me on a state inspection bc they wanted to sell me tires I didn’t need
I dropped my car off for a routine state inspection and was told that I needed new tires bc the tread was low. Not believing that I needed new tires, I declined and the shop said that I failed the inspection. Once I got home, I did a standard penny test on my tires and saw that there was plenty of tread left on the tires. I’m sure the shop just wanted to sell me expensive tires…

Mr Parkin, We're sorry to hear you were unhappy with the results of the state inspection that was performed on your vehicle. Tires worn to down to 2/32" are considered worn out and grounds for failure in the state of New York. No reputable New York State inspection center would pass a vehicle with tires worn down to 2/32" or less. Unfortunately the rear tires on your vehicle were worn below the minimum threshold. You can have the tires replaced at any shop of your choosing. If you've had the rear tires replaced you are welcome to return to have the state inspection completed.
