Wow, We/I didn't see that coming after all we did for Tim-Yes sorry it took longer than expected but there were some issues that we had to deal with that were out of the norm.
First when the truck came in was very intermitant-we couldn't get it to overheat, the over flow bottle needed to be replaced because the sensor inside these diesel bottles go bad when they get over pressurize (ask the parts dealer how many they go through)-so the low coolant light always stays on-even when full-so yes it did need to be replaced.
(By the way the part Tim left out was we did credit Tim back all the diagnostic time since the warranty center doesn't cover diagnostics, so 2 hours of air bleeding the coolant system, and the price of the coolant bottle when we did the head gasket work.)
Also what Tim doesn't mention is we probably saved him 6000 to 18,000.00. When we tore it down the head gasket failed because the last shop that did the head gasket a year ago cross threaded a head bolt and it was broken down inside the block-stripped. So to prevent the warranty company from not covering a bad head gasket we didn't tell them the head bolt failed-because the warranty center will only cover bad head gaskets (not bolts)-had they known that the head bolt created the issue they might have rejected the 5500.00 claim. Also the warranty center doesn't cover machine work-we talked them into covering the 500.00 machine work on the HEADS since the customer just bought the truck. #2 The head bolt that broke down inside the block took 10 hours to get out-broke 2 snap-on bolt extractors-which we had to drill and pick those out-we purchsed a special tool to installed new threads into the block-cost us 470.00-charged the customer 40-called a time cert-no one in portland METRO had one-had to come from back east
-took about 3 days to get. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL SHOPS-They all would have just condemmed the whole block-which the warranty inspector would have had to come out and would have saw that the head bolt failed causing the gasket to fail. Trust me after dealing with so many different extended warranty companies-they look for any reason to get out of a claim-I almost bet they would have denied the whole claim. We only charged Tim 2 hours after spending 10 hours trying to extract the head bolt.
Finally Tim says he had to take it to a close by shop because an injector seal failed (started leaking fuel)-we said sorry and refunded him the $280.00 he was out-we replaced all the injector seals with new Chevy seals-Tim didn't believe we did-so we went to the file cabinet showed him the Chevy Invoice that shows new injector seals. We also drove the truck multiple times up and down the freeway-also ran in the shop for over 45 min. double checked our work-just so we have no issues when we release the truck.
I don't get it-we went above and beyond and tryied to save the customer money-even to the point of not telling the whole truth to the warranty center-and Tim was in the loop on everything-he said he appreciated us helping him and keeping him in the loop.
Yes we all feel your pain Tim-you bought a used truck and it's bad from day 1-you purchased someone elses nightmare-come to find out the guy before you had repaced the head gaskets 1 year ago and they went bad again-so he sold the truck-now your stuck with it-we tried to be fair and help you out where we could-and what do we get in the end ---.
Thanks Tim we really appreciate it.
They called to let me know what all the code messages where and how much it would cost to fix.
A $ 1,000.00 later I had my truck and off I went . No more than 2 mile the engine lite come's on again .
Not to say my truck had a low right front tire and they didn't even notice it . I would have a hard time taking my truck back to have them read the code for $ 118.00. JB
I called John back & let him know we have a full 12/12k mile warranty on everything we do. I had him come down to see which code set, turns out the knock sensor code came back, so we are going to warranty out the defective knock sensor located under the manifold.
This car came in overheating and running poorly.
We check the codes and there was a code stored for the EGR system. We had to get the car running right before we could test the EGR system.
We found the head gasket was leaking badly causing it to run poor & overheat right away. After we sent the head to the machine shop they also found the valves were not sealing. We had them fix the cylinder head. After we got the head back we tried cleaning the the EGR passage ways and the valve to save him some money, but that didn't fix the EGR code, so we replaced the valve for free.
After we fixed the head gasket and the EGR valve the car ran great and never over heated.
The customer came back 20 days later and said it was still over heating. We tested the cooling system and all the fans were working properly and coolant was full and clean. We check the temptarture on the radiator and found it was plugged up, not cooling the coolant down enough, and would need replacement for best fix. Flushing it out was just a temporary fix & will need replaced for a permanent fix. We did flush the coolant system after the we installed the new head gasket. and drove the car about 20 miles and car never overheated for us. The customer drove the car for 20 days before it started overheating again on him. I still believe the radiator is going to need replacing.
One of the things was lubing a squeeky seat belt pully. He did that for free, thank you.
They didn't call to let me know that they were done. I called at 2pm pm and no one answered. Called again at 3pm and was told it had been done for quite a while, very annoying!
Then when I came to pick it up I find out that they didn't change the fuel filter that I asked them to do. He asked if I could drop the truck off again on Monday if I wasn't busy.
My weekdays are always busy. I make time in my schedule to have my truck serviced. I just want it done in a timely manner.
I stopped at Autozone and picked up a fuel filter, I will be changing it myself today.
I was off when you came in last Friday, my front couter guy "Nick" had told me he made a mistake and miss understood on replacing your fuel filter. When you said its been a while he told me he should have confirmed if you wanted it replaced. Also we typically call all customers when the vehicle is done, he said he saw you ride off on your bike and just assummed you would be back in a couple hours. He didn't know you were riding home, either way he said he accepts full responsibility and he should have called-reguardless. I'm so sorry to have to put you through a bunch of trouble on your day off-I know the last thing you wanted to do was to replace a fuel filter and get fuel all over on your day off, UGH. I just want you to know we always appreciated any feed back so we can be bettter and we always try to meet or exceeed our customers needs, also "THANK YOU" for being a long time loyal customer since 2010. Your NEXT OIL CHANGE will be on us, thank you again for your patroage and the feed back!
Sincerly, Kris Jones
P.S. I know you picked up the fuel filter part already-if you haven't put it in yet please swing by any time today and we will install in at no charge.
We do appreciate your business here alot! Typically we charge the customer the same price on a battery for what ever you would have paid if you walked into a Napa Parts store and purchased it yourself. Most cars we do not even charge any labor-although on some European cars we have to pay our techs because they are time consuming to get to and change. When we looked up the labor time on your 2005 BMW Z-4 IT CALLED FOR .8 hours-so 120.00 shop rate x .8 = $96.00-We then gave you a 46.00 discount off the labor just to help you out-kmnowing its alot to absorb. so you paid 50.00 of labor to install.
Warranty-Sorry not sure what you are refering to-we have never installed a battery on this car before please call us if diferent-we always do the right thing if there is any warranty that needs to be given.
On you oil chang after checking our records I only see you car in here for 2 other visits-both oil changes (9-13-2018 and 9-21-2017)
I also checked the pricing at it looks like we charged you the exact same price as we did 2017 & 2018.
Again if you ever have any question please don't hesitate to call and ask us. Thanks again for your reviews and the chance to work on your cars.
