Refused to work on my car and had to have it towed to another dealer
Had to have my car towed from Gurnee Hyundai to another dealer to fix it. I bought my new Sonata there in 2017. Since then, I have taken it to their service department for everything, including all oil changes. The quality of customer service in the service department has steadily declined since 2017, including long waits, forgetting my car was there for service, not answering or returning calls, etc.
Two weeks ago, driving down the highway, an alert said, “Hybrid failure - Turn off engine”. So, I had the car towed directly to Gurnee Hyundai. After looking at it, I was told that the problem was caused by the aftermarket remote start system and the technician refused to touch it because of all the wiring and I need to tow it to the remote start provider. He also told me that maybe I wouldn’t be able to have a remote start in my car. Ironically, I had bought the car with the Hyundai Blue Link app remote start, which last year stopped working. Blue Link and Hyundai told me that due to software updates the remote service would no longer work in my car. So, I had a new aftermarket Drone remote start installed in December. I called the remote start agent, who said he would go over to Hyundai to disconnect the unit so the service technicians can properly diagnose and repair the car. He and I both left messages for the Hyundai service agent AND the Service Dept Manager that day. No return calls to either of us. So, the next day I called Gurnee Hyundai and went in to meet the tow truck driver to have my car towed FROM Gurnee Hyundai TO another local Hyundai dealer who agreed to work on my car, even with the remote installed. Before leaving, the Service Manager insisted I pay the $168 diagnostic charge, even though they refused to work on my car saying it was the remote start causing my issue.
The Rosen Hyundai Service department, in Kenosha, ran diagnostics and ordered a new knock sensor to fix my car. The part and service were covered by a recall on the car. They answered their phone and even returned my calls promptly. They have earned a new customer.
The moral of the story is do not expect any service from the Gurnee Hyundai Service Department, even if you have been a loyal customer for the past 5 years.
