First, I'd like to say that Luther Bloomington Hyundai took good care of me (free loaner car and frequent updates) while waiting for the placement engine to come in, and completed the work within 48 hours once the parts were on hand. That part went well and was as painless as possible. The engine had been making a "ticking" noise which is apparently either piston slap or a bearing issue, depending which internet "expert" you listen to. Now I'm trying to find out what changes have been made to the NU engines since my car was built in 2012, as there seems to be a lot of failures and I'd like some reassurance this won't happen again. The Corporate Consumer Affairs folks basically said they can't give me an answer because they are not engineers and referred me to the dealership. Since the dealers have not been given any information regarding engine changes/upgrades, they couldn't provide any insight. I've asked to elevate my inquiry at the Corporate level, but won't be holding my breath for an answer.
