It's perfect for the occasion

I'm retired, my Dakota is right for all my needs, plus it's a gas savior, the right size for getting in and out, all that I have used it for, I have no problem with it, at first I didn't think it would do what I wanted it to do, but now I'm convinced

Old School Truck

One of the most underrated mid size trucks. It never got raving reviews, or was a big seller for Dodge, but I have found this to be one of the best and most durable vehicles I have owned. It has a solid frame under it, almost as heavy as a full size, and the 4.7 V8 has a lot of guts. 2years ago I pulled over a 14 in elm tree that grew in the wrong fence row with this little, 5400 lb workhorse.

Die Hard

It must have been an excellent day at the factory because this truck lasted until 2019 without any major issues. This truck is like brand new today after rack and pinion has been replaced it's 60000 mile tune up and regular routine care by factory book.

Trucks are very expensive right now so had to go with the smaller model I do not like the smaller bed and no room for tools under seats is the worst part. No storage for tools whatsoever had to buy new side boxes other than that sharp design and very fast

Bought nit new in NC and except for an engine malfunction a couple of years ago, has been reliable transportation more as a car than a truck. No regrets.

I bought this vehicle in NC in 2004 and except for an engine malfunction a couple of years ago, has been reliable transportation more as a car than a truck. Has held up well, doesn't get great mileage but wasn't made for that. All in all a good buy. No regrets.

Dodge Dakota 6 cyl.

After 247,000 miles only real major repair was the airconditioner compressor. Runs like it's new other than using a little more oil which can be expected without a valve job. Wish they still built them.

Dodge Dakota

I have owned a Dodge Dakota and used it as my primary transportation since 1998. First one a 1996, was totalled in an accident last one sold to a relative, and currently drive 2004. Good interior room, great towing capability, payload, drives and rides fantastic, plenty of power, great appearance from any angle, and fits easily in my garage.

Good buy

Bought it new and still have it. Followed maintenance plan, avoided trees and other cars so it still looks new. One hundred thousand + miles plus a few extras added to keep it looking nice and make it more useful. All in all, not a bad deal.

Good

They really need to make the SLTs again. These were good trucks and the ones still being used are good trucks. I'd buy a new one just like my old one if I could. They also need to keep the CD changers. They made newer versions that were not as good as the 2004 SLTs. They didn't have the center consoles and they had funny lights.

Best Pickup I have owned

I bought this truck used when it was six months old with 6,00 miles on it. It has the 4.7L V8. and is four wheel drive and came with the trailer towing package. Has been a very good truck and has held up very well. It has 72,000 miles on it now and I haven't had any major issues with it. It has the original exhaust on it. This year I had to replace the exhaust flanges that connect to the exhaust manifold since they rusted away.. I used split flanges so I could keep the original pipes which are in good shape. Never had to do anything with the AC which I think is very good considering the truck is 18 years old. I had some small issues when the truck was under warranty such as the brake rotors and the power steering pump had small leak which Chrysler took care of and I have had no problems with those since. I have done two brake jobs since with Centric brake parts semi metalic pads which are very good. I replaced the brake calipers and brake lines due to age and rust on the calipers. I have had some minor rust issues with the rear and front fenders when the truck was 15 years old which I was able to fix easily. No rust issues with the doors which my other trucks have had. Only had to replace the shocks once and the springs and torsion bars are original. The original battery lasted 14 years. I replaced it just because of its age. Replaced the spark plugs once with Autolite Platinum plugs at 35,000 miles. Have had no issues with the engine or the transmission. Oil changes at 3 to 4 thousand miles. Mostly Valvoline and Shell motor oil. I have used this truck for work carrying fairly heavy loads and a fair amount of off road use. I had to replace the upper ball joints when the truck was 15 years old. The factory ones have been a week spot in these trucks and they had no grease fittings. They were fairly easy to replace and I used Moog heavy duty ones with grease fittings. I replaced the original serpentine belt and tensioner just because they were 17 years old with Gates belt and tensioner. I have had Chevy and Ford trucks in the past and they were both good trucks but this Dakota has been a better truck overall.

2004 Dakota

2004 Dakota 17754miles. The truck runs fine but the check engine light stays on. Did the repairs the dealer told me to do years ago. After spending a lot$$$$$ the light still stays on. Dealer can't or won't solve. The head liner is shot. It tows my 20ft trailer with ease.
