Disappointed in my very first Genesis......
I really wanted to love my 2025 Genesis GV80 Prestige 3.5T. When I first picked it up and for the first month, I LOVED the car. But, then the morning of July 28, 2025 happened. It was on this date that I took my 2025 Genesis GV80 Prestige 3.5T to the car wash on my drive back from New York to Ohio because the GV80 was dirty. Then, after driving for an hour, all of a sudden, every single warning light lit up on the cluster, bells chiming and dinging, and the car went into "limp mode" and I was lucky that by the time this happened, I was only 20 mins from home and only 10 mins from my Genesis dealer, so I took it there.
Well.... after spending 4 days at the dealer and with their techs in contact with Genesis engineering, it turns out that BOTH main wiring harnesses that run the length of the vehicle got a "water intrusion event" into the harness effectively shorting things out. That was back on July 28, 2025. It is now Thursday, Sep 4, 2025 that I write this and my GV80 is in repair because they need to wait for the parts, and THEN they will have to replace ALL the carpets in the vehicle, which may take 5 months (!) more because apparently only one company makes the carpets.
SO... I contacted Genesis multiple times and they finally agreed to a buy back. This was good, except that when I tried to contact my salesperson at Genesis of Mentor, she was suddenly no longer employed. Then when asking to speak to the General Manager, I found that she, too, was no longer at Genesis of Mentor!!!! What the heck?!
I finally was contacted by Genesis Consumer Affairs and was told that they would be "processing" my buyback and get back to me in another week with figures.
Essentially, they will be taking my GV80 back and I will be getting a new GV80 (same model, same trim level). But... this will take some time. And even though I was told that I wouldn't have to reapply for my auto loan, but instead be responsible for any "adjustments in price between the two vehicles"... it just doesn't sit right with me. I mean, if I bought a Lamp from Target that was defective, I would return the lamp and get a new one. One would think that this would be the case with a brand, spanking new car?! But, nope. The buyback process is complex.
AND... to beat everything...... I am making payments to Genesis Finance for a vehicle that I can't drive and haven't been able to drive for over a month! One would also think that Genesis would "extend the courtesy hand" and Genesis Finance would excuse my payments on the vehicle until I get the new one/replacement. That was not offered.
SO... in summary.... I am NOT happy with Genesis. The vehicles are supposed to be top notch, bar none over all competition.... and yet for me a simple, regular car wash took the vehicle down. Is Genesis saying that we, the owners of their vehicles, cannot use a car wash?!?!? WHY did Genesis not use WATERPROOF connectors on such a strategic, key part as the wiring harness?!?? Oh, so many questions. Not enough answers.
I wrote a real (no email, but actual paper) letter to the CEO, Randy Parker, and only received a secondary reply from the Consumer Affairs Specialist. I realize that Mr. Parker is extremely busy running Genesis of North America, but one would think that in my case, after spending over $83,000 on my GV80, that "died" from a car wash of all things, that Mr. Parker would extend a helping hand. It would be nice to know that Mr. Parker cares about the "little people" who buy his vehicles.
Anyway.... the "jury is out" regarding my Genesis.... if/when I get the new, replacement vehicle, I can submit another review. As for this one.... I cannot really recommend in good conscience to buy a Genesis, since my experience as first time Genesis owner was poor at best.
