Lifter issues at 85000 miles

Disappointed I had a $3000 plus engine lifter repair at less than 90000 miles. My service / maintenance record was excellent on this vehicle. Apparently a known engineering problem on these engines. Also, need hood painted due to shoddy GM paint.
