Falls short of MPG expectations

All in all its not a bad little car especially if one considers the $$$ paid for what is inside! The heated seats are a huge comfort to the spouse; steering wheel controls are handy and easy to use, BT connectivity sometimes is a GOD Sent!. The ride does feel stiff at moments and its a bit noisy (one CAN hear the road from below the floor) My biggest complaint is MPG!!!! This was the main reason I bought the Elantra. Advertised MPG was 33 city/ 39 hwy. I NEVER NEVER came anywhere near these numbers!! Couple of times I went over 30 on the highway...most of the time it was around 28; the city numbers are totally dismal..... 21/23.... many times falling into teens I was told that the advertised MPGs are EPA estimates and I understand that, however.... I am not a 16-yo with his 1st car and I've had many cars before. I would thus expect probably about 29/30 city and 35 - hwy (all in all perhaps 5 MPG drop from the estimated numbers - NOT 10/11) Huyndai did fess up 2 years ago that their MPG claim was incorrect and adjusted them downward. They even admittedly told the owners that they would reimburse for gas, but somehow I couldn't be eligible (Although mine is 2013 Elantra GT - I was told that my VIN is 'not the right one', which I could not understand since I obviously DO have the problem as described) I also thought that the tires are 'cheap'. All mine were ready to be changed at about 35K - RIGHT on the nose when the manufacturer's warranty on them expired! One even started going flat on a daily basis...right in the middle of January - nice time to do so :( Cheap Korean Tires! Did some homework and changed them all to Bridgestone (US made and 70K warranty - THAT is the way to have tires!) Overall... have mixed feelings as not completely sure that I would get another Hyundai again, which is a shame - I had better hopes for this little car

Mixed thoughts

I like the aesthetics of the vehicle, interior and exterior. The seats are comfortable all around. Taller riders can fit in the rear. I like the safety features and the emergency equipment that includes first aid and an air compressor for the spare tire. The entertainment center is good. Brakes don't run down quickly. The things I don't like are: the fuel economy is nowhere near what the window sticker displayed. This fact makes owning this vehicle a medicore experience that does not generate model or even brand loyalty. Published information about economy should be accurate. The low profile tire option contributes to better handling but tires run down quickly. Road noise is also annoying so more sound insulation in the doors/floor/firewall would be advised. The fuel door can be temperamental. The car seems light and therefore threatening in avoidance maneuvers.

Decent, reliable transportation

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT is a competent but fairly unexciting car. Its versatility is a plus, but the underpowered engine ensures that the driving experience is ho-hum. There are no advanced safety features, and the headlights are quite poor.

Several manufacturer issues, but at least the Hyundai honors the guarantee without problems

Nice car for a daily city commuting and even long trips. It is not too expensive; however, several engine pieces were defective and needed to be replaced. Probably I will be targeting a Japanese car next time (my experience with VW has been the worst, not again--Honda civic gave me a very good results. I tried a Korean in 2013, but maybe they need some more time to mature the production line)

Four cylinder needs turbo for more pickup. Other than that pretty nice so far. Only had it one month though.

love it, but ...

but trunk space is not enough as my old Elantra wagon the heater takes longer to blow hot air than my other cars it fishtails in the slightest bit of snow, that is why i'm considering an all wheel drive

Hyundai seasonal review

I do not recommended this vehicle for safety on wet or snowcovered surfaces. Because of the 16 inch tires and rims this car rides like a metal iceskate during snow covered conditions. If you hit a pot hole your teeth clench and prayers go out that you didn't blow the tire. If you hit a block of snow in the front you risk cracking the lower bumper area as this vehicle sits too low to the ground. About 6 to 8 inches. In very wet conditions you can experience the same sliding/ hydro planeing. This is with new tires, properly inflated and aligned.

Get the Sonata instead

Poor gas mileage, a lot of road noise. The shocks went out the second year I had it. My driver's side electric seat button sticks on the recline part. It works once in awhile. The Elantra is underpowered. Get the Sonata instead. It is much better by far.

Built on a lie

The Elantra GT was purchased because it was supposed to get 40 mpg - it doesn't - lucky to get 26 mpg and that's only going downhill with a gale force tail wind. The major saving grace is the full view glass roof..

Not bad, not great

Bought my 2013 Elantra GT and it’s been a very good car but about a year ago the clear coat has started to bubble up and peel. Very disappointing as the paint is only guaranteed for 3 years. Hyundai knows about the problem as it has been reported since the 2001 model year but has chosen not to do anything about it.

Mostly satisfied.

I am pleased with my 2013 Elantra GT as far as performance goes. Unfortunately, I am extremely upset with the peeling paint on the rear spoiler. It looks terrible and spoils the whole car. I have auto butler performed every six months and expected the entire car to be protected. Evidently, not. I do not understand why Hyundai won't correct this unsightly mess. My husband and I currently own two Elantras and previously owned an Azera, but this experience with the paint causes me to rethink if I would ever purchase another Hyundai.

We Get Along Just Fine

I like my Hyundai Elantra GT. It was my 2nd car at first, then became my primary. Upside: It's reliable, good on gas, and is small enough to fit into tight parking spaces. Downside: I had to replace every single tire within the first 6 months of owning the car due to bubbles - even though I drove the same route as usual in the same manner as usual. Compared to OnStar (which I had in my Cadillac), their service was awful. The GPS was inaccurate and the people I spoke to were rude, uninformed, and terrible at their jobs.

Love this car.

I have had my GT for almost for two and a half years, I still love it. Drives great, limited noise, comfortable and good gas mileage. Love the blue color and the tri color interior.
