Just had an engine failure before it hit 4,000 miles.

This is our third Hyundai. We love the car and the gas mileage. However, we unfortunately had a serious engine failure on a vacation which caused major inconvenience. Now we took the car in to hopefully get fixed with a new engine.

This Just Not It

It’s a decent car. Nothing special. No bells and whistles. The “savings” I anticipated on switching to hybrid were decimated when my insurance went up. Before you buy see what your insurance will be. I did my insurance after. Lesson learned. It gets me from point A to B safely. I can appreciate that.

Elantra experience

The car's technology features are somewhat basic and lacking in advanced options. Many of the controls, such as the trunk release and gas cap latch, are operated manually rather than electronically. While it offers good fuel efficiency, the driving experience is not especially enjoyable, lacking sporty or engaging dynamics. The camera resolution is below average, resulting in unclear or pixelated footage, which can be an issue for parking or reversing. Interior space is limited, making it uncomfortable for passengers or cargo, and overall, the vehicle feels cheap in terms of build quality and materials used.

Outdated transmission

Completely outdated transmission, car struggles with acceleration, trim level is totally confusing. I have a car from the same brand with an SE trim that's better equipped than this one, which is SEL.

Excessive wind noises, and noisy idle.

Wind noise is heard from inside cabin when all windows are fully closed. Further more sunroof also makes a turbulence noise when open on ‘tilt’ position with all door windows fully closed. Engine is too noisy for idle compared to other manufacturers models like a civic or Camry.

Very disappointed in the actual mileage

The car's engine is under powered and it would be better if all four tires had electric motors. When this car hit a head on wind or any kind of heels you could forget any kind of gas mileage. I'm averaging only about 30 to 35 miles a gallon. If I had the money I would get rid of this car and go back to a normal gas operated engine. As a multiple owner of Hyundai cars I'm very disappointed. Our original plans was to buy a palisade hybrid but that won't happen now

Good car, DCT and engine not as smooth as I’d like

Overall the car is good, however the DCT can be a little annoying because it isn’t consistent with how it functions and is occasionally jerky. The engine also isn’t the smoothest and at idle feels horrible in the cabin. The interior materials are a little weak but not unexpected for the class and I wish all gloss black plastic would be removed immediately. I’ve had the car for a couple months and there are already small scratches in this cheap plastic. The cross bar on the passenger side is just silly. And the glued on trunk lid screams cheap since it’s not properly adhered on the driver side. Also my hood is misaligned. Also generally worried about reliability. This may end up being my last Hyundai.

Comfy interior & ride but excessive sensors that can be distracting

Interior is roomy for even the larger of us, though low door headroom, and a comfortable ride. Sensors are excessive, distracting, and counterproductive, and actually seem to have driven up my insurance by a whopping $1 K per year. Had I known... I would not have purchased. Plus - NO SPARE TIRE PROVIDED!! Auto headlight management of highbeams are a nice feature. Door opening sensor features are not helpful.

Overall very please with our purchase. Initally very disappointed in the extended warranty salesman. He Lied to me. The sales manager made everything right and made me feel like he actually cared about me leaving happy with my decision to purchase a new vehicle from Fort Mill Hyundai. I will always remember this and tell friends and family about my experience, both good and the bad.

Unattractive colors. Useless Rod/bar on passenger area.

There is a useless Rod/bar on the passenger seat that makes no sense. The color of the car is silver grey. It’s boring. All black interior on the carpets, door panels, and dashboard make for a very hot interior!

Kinda Cheap...

Despite being the highest trim level, there are many missing features that feel so standard that the car just feels cheap and less high quality. There are no air vents in the back, meaning passengers back there roast in warm weather, and the front passenger seat has fully manual adjustment rather than being electric. Additionally, not only is there a lack of full size cup holders(the ones in the doors suck), but the entire vehicle feels tight and cramped if you're not the driver. 33k is a lot to pay for a compact car, and is nearing the edge of affordability for a great deal of average Americans, yet it lacks so much. Hyundai no longer feels like a brand of value and quality but instead a company willing to cut corners for profit. I do enjoy the gas mileage, and quick acceleration. Though I do wish the acceleration was a hair better. Im less interested in speed and more interested in the acceleration needed to merge onto aggressively driven highways where rude people refuse to yield or share the road. The low center of gravity aids in the feeling of stability and agility of the car, but due to where I live and the amount of potholes in the road, I bottom out and scrap the undercarriage of the car more often than I'd like. Maybe I should have gotten an SUV instead.
