2011 Elantra

I have been very pleased with the performance, comfort and miles per gallon of my Elantra. So happy it runs on regular gas, no more premium gas prices for me. Heated leather seats are comfortable and have held up well.

Excellent Ride

My Elantra I bought used, but whoever owned it before put in a very nice audio system. The steering (in my opinion of course) is amazing. You feel like you have full control of the car without having to use much effort to guide the steering wheel left or right. Braking is on point, while the acceleration takes time to build it. Given it is a fuel economy car, so the hp isn't as strong anyway. My model is the limited edition so the heated leather seats are an excellent must have during the winter. I will agree on the cabin size being small. I'm 5'10 and my head is close to brushing the ceiling. The backseat leg room is tight as most say, but it isn't much of a problem. Again, this is a fuel economy car so size and power aren't a priority. I would recommend finding an Elantra is 17" rims so it matches the body of the Elantra. Makes it look sporty and not as fat. Summing it up, the 2011 Elantra is an excellent car if you are looking for fuel saving (cost too) and modern style ride. Don't expect as much leg room or horsepower though.

Good starter car with asterisks

This was one of the few cars I bought new. I purchased it when gas in my area was almost $4.00 per gallon, expecting to own it for 7 years. I now have 118k miles on it after 9 years. The vehicle has held up pretty well in all but 2 areas: The engine began knocking at 9,500 miles, the "Next Track" button on the steering wheel failed early on and the worst issue is that this vehicle will dent in every hail storm or casual door ding it encounters. I've had my KIA van and this car in the driveway during a small hailstorm and the KIA has yet to show a hail dent while the Elantra was estimated (by the insurance adjustor) to have about 750 dents that effectively totaled the car. In subsequent storms, the damage is compounded and I have about 20 door dings and dents from parking lots. Again, the other cars I have owned do not have these scars and they are in the same environments.

Great fuel economy.

My first nice car in 20 years !! Love the fuel mileage and leather interior. Heated seats and the limited package is perfect for me. I really like the trunk pass thru to the black seat. The car has very stylish designs.

Innovation

The staff always keeps me informed on what's going on (status of what is needed and estimate the time that it should be before a problem exists. Most times there's no waiting, ready to provide service requested and they usually can tell you about the time the car will be ready, which is good. Thanks for your service.

2011 Elantra

Purchased car used 14 months ago. Love most things about it. Only issues are loud valve clatter until warm up (may be normal for this engine; no loss of power or oil burning) and it is terrible in snow. OK under normal snow conditions, but it there is snow or ice on only left or right side of road, car pitches violently. On summer roads it drives like a dream.

Better than expected

This car is going strong at just over 160k miles. Seems like this is pretty well built. Little issues with all the windows raising mechanisms breaking, air lost compression. But “cheep” fixes. Hoping this continues for another 100k!

2X Elantra owner

When this car was new I loved everything especially the color and reliability The only down side were the factory tires I kept getting air bubbles in my tires I had to have at least 7 tires replaced but lucky I signed up for an insurance that covered this When that coverage ended I bought another type of tire and never had another air bubble As time and miles went on I started having more issues but the one reason I need to get another car is due to the lack of stability when I drive in snow I use all season tires I don't have space to store snow tires off season I love Elantras but not in upstate New york in winter

Hyundai Review

Would not recommend this vehicle to someone nor purchase another Elantra. Blind spots have caused several near misses with either pedestrians or other vehicles. As far as suspension system and road handling, it's one of the worst vehicles I've ever driven.

Great car, reliable...but....

I find the radio's bluetooth to be annoying. I have to force it to connect a lot of the time, and when using the car to dial numbers, it's like it was programmed by an idiot. I say, "Dial" and the number, then it repeats the number and asks if I want to dial it. Uh, really? Did I not say "Dial" in the first place? It also has a constant tendency to get names completely wrong, especially when running the AC on maximum or having the window rolled down. Other than all that, the car is great.

Piston slap & ticking

I purchased my 2011 Elantra Aug 2014 with 27k in Massachusetts. The car is running strong with 98k. I've driven it coast to coast. However, some issues with this model include piston slap (knocking) and ticking while cold. When warm, the engine purrs. I change the oil every 3k miles because Hyundai has said that engine failure in some Elantras, due to sludge, is the owners' fault. They were sued in a class action in NY and I believe they settled by raising warranty to 120k miles for original owners.

Affordable but not without issues...

Nicely equipped vehicle for the money. The creature comforts are nice but the drawbacks are readily apparent when driving. Road noise is annoying but that's an inherent problem with most small vehicles and I wish manufacturers would address that. The steering is not quite up to par and I believe I read that has been tweaked in the model years following. The rear suspension is terrible when traveling over bumpy roads it skates all over the place. I haven't lost control but had I been speeding I wonder what the results might be. The final negative note is on the mpg fiasco that Hyundai flubbed on big time. One of the main reasons I purchased this car was because of the fuel ratings being touted at the time. I was quite angry when the deception was discovered and Hyundai lost a lot in the credibility department from me.

2011 Elantra

I was excited about my Elantra until I realized the MPG was a sham. The program to reimburse me really doesn't help. I have to wait several months sometimes a year to get an amount of money worth the effort. I also was not happy with the leather peeling off my steering wheel within a month. The have had several issues with the fuse popping out that controls the sound/navigation system. It happens frequently. I should have waited for the Apple Play, the older Elantras have an obsolete sound/navigation system that cannot interface with any iPhone after the 4.

Disappointed MPG

2011 Elantra Limited Edition. When new,I was getting 35 MPG. Today, I am getting 18 MPG. Even after over $500 service, new tires, and driving with the ECO on, as recommended. Never experienced this with our Honda and Nissan. DISAPPOINTED!

It's ok...not great

This was my first time buying a Hyundai....and most likely my last. Cute design of car and good mileage...but that is about it. I've had to replace both sun visors (at $100 each) just from warping...when googled, it is apparent that this is a problem across the board. The leather on the front drivers seat started splitting at the seams after 3 years of use and the electrical system gets confused all the time (for example, lowering the radio volume changed stations!) All of these problems, and more, of course began the minute the warranty was up! Overall, I would say that these cars are very cheaply made.

Lots of road noise and I get paid for Hyundai overstating the MPG

Overall okay but lots of road noise since Hyundai saved cost and weight - didn’t even come with a spare tire, just a can of fix a flat and good luck with that if your sidewall gets punctured. Even with this, Hyundai still got busted for overstating the MPG, so I have to go out of my way every year to get the odometer read and sent a reimbursement.

good car but uninspiring to drive

Have had this car for 7 years and it has generally been reliable-dealer fixed problems with accelerator that was under warranty and crankshaft sensor that caused car to stall . It is rather sluggish to drive and the gas mileage is much poorer than it should be for a smaller car. Comfort is OK for daily commute but not for long trips. Rear seats are really only comfortable for kids under 8.

Eh

I got my car in 2011 when the whole model was revamped. It was great at first, but with new models comes lots of problems that need to be troubleshooted. I’m sure the newer models are much better, but I had issues with things in my car that just didn’t work months after we bought it. Also, the car didn’t get the mileage per gallon as the advertisements suggested, and it was like pulling teeth trying to get the gas cards that were owed to us after the lawsuit. Ive asked for the gas cards multiple times, but no one gives them to me.

The Nuts and Bolts of a Recent Experience

I keep losing air pressure in my tires. I am constantly getting the amber low-pressure warning when the seasons change from hot to cold and vice versa. The dealership nicely puts air in my tires each time--but, of course, who wants to continually have to drive back to your dealership for air? They confirm that it's not the tires' fault. Something seems deficient with the metal rims. Very annoying.
