A Good Car

Overall I think this car is well made, efficient, practical and easy to drive. The fast charging is quite good, and the ability to use NACS chargers such as Tesla is a big selling point. It is comfortable and quiet, with good seals against air and road noise. The all-wheel drive seems to be very good in snow, and the ability to go on rough roads with the XRT is great. Now, I would never buy or lease one again, because of several points. The first is that I can't believe a $56k car, with personal profiles, can't remember my seat position. As a three-driver family this is a huge hassle. Second, putting the rear seats up after having them down is very difficult and inefficient, requiring two hands and significant effort. With two large dogs to load frequently, and four family members to transport, the process of dealing with putting the rear seats down and up is untenable. Every other SUV I've owned has a button you can push that takes care of it. Third, the "you need to take a break" message from the automatic cameras on the steering wheel is almost unbearable on long trips, chiming frequently, even when I've just taken a charge stop and break. Truly annoying, with no way to turn it off. Unacceptable. Fourth, I use my phone as a digital key, or at least I did, until I found out it is impossible to lock the car when there is no cell coverage. You can't use the button inside and then close the door, it just doesn't work, and the phone can't communicate with the car to lock it. Again, unacceptable. So despite my overall satisfaction with driving, charging and daily commute, I personally would never choose to own one again.

A Very Good Vehicle with some disappointing qualities

I have the 2025 Ioniq 5 XRT, and while I would definitely recommend the Ioniq 5 to anyone that asks, I'm not sure I would recommend the XRT. My main argument against it is the price, vs the things that you get. It's lifted higher than the normal Ioniq 5 and it's made for more off-roading or sporty activity, but you don't get any of the comfort amenities that one would expect from a vehicle this expensive - no head's up display, no cooled seats, no interior lights that change color... I was expecting these things when I bought it, and was pretty disappointed that they weren't there. Second, the Hyundai trip planning app is kind of abysmal - part of that is the fault of the charging infrastructure and the fact that not all Tesla charging stations are open to non-Tesla's, but I've found it to be overly conservative in how low it allows the battery to get and add unnecessary stops - e.g. I recently drove from Boston, MA to Burlington, VT and began the trip with ~30% battery; it had me charge at 20% to 80% just outside Boston, and then stop again in West Lebanon, NH to again charge at 20% to finish the trip. I could have easily made it to Manchester, NH at the start of the trip and just charged once. I would rather be rolling into the charging stations at 5% - otherwise what is all that capacity for? All of that said, this is a pretty great ride. It's fun to drive. It's quiet. It's responsive. The assisted cruise control with lane switching is excellent. You won't be disappointed if you know exactly what you're getting when you purchase the XRT.

50k+ & no seat memory? CarPlay turns on every time the vehicle turns on, regardless if I’ve turned it off. Same with climate control. More features I don’t want than ones I do

It has its positives and negatives

The power is good. The range is good comfortable except for the odor. I don’t like to drive it because the odor is not good. Supposed to be a new car smell, but I’ve never smelt the car this bad sometimes it smells like dead fish, but on the other hand, it does go away after a while But it’s right back there. The next time you go to drive it.

Drives Fine but Lacking in Technology

The Ioniq 5 provides a smooth driving experience with good suspension and responsiveness. As an owner of another EV, the Ioniq 5 is lacking in integrating technology with functionality in the car. Individual drivers can be identified, however there is no connection to recognizing and installing individual preferences. Route guidance is OK, but not great. The technology in the Ioniq 5 is similar to a 2014 Lexus SUV we previously owned. Not what I expected.

Nice but

Nice ride, good looking, Tesla enabled but...I can't understand how to do the myriad of things available, like how to lock while charging, how to remove errant locations that will not leave, needing two Tesla spaces to charge, how to charge anywhere besides home or Telsa, etc, etc, etc . I realize I am much to fault but I have tried and tried and watched video after video but there are just to many complicated things available that I cannot find and use the most normal things. I thought my Tesla was complicated, but I find this more complicated. My heart is sad. Oh, and the recall. My dealership will not respond to my inquiries to get the recall done. Another Hyundai disappointment,

Ioniq5 Almost Perfect

The Ioniq5 is pleasant to drive with no hard edges, though perhaps it is too safe of a bet for drivers looking for a little more passion from their ride. Range is a standout and makes the car perfect for the family roadtrip. Handling is ultimately secure but does not inspire energetic inputs, as its suspension shows its 2-tons of weight when pushed. A good grocery hauler-though there is no cargo well in the hatch or bag hooks to secure packages. Stowing groceries behind the front seats can create rolling items across the super flat floor. All seats are comfy though the Driver’s could use a bit of side bolstering and low back cushioning for long trips. A power tilt steering column would be nice on top trims like our Limited, to take advantage of the Seat Memory feature.

Mixed review

I am getting used to the car although I am still having difficulty finding comfortable settings for the seat and the right angle fr the accelerator pedal - The car broke down on our first road trip, bucking and blowing hot air after using a high speed charger 2 different times - the 3 codes that came up have been repaired but we have not been told what caused the problems so we do not feel confident going forward - we have no way of knowing if this problem will happen again - we need more information to know whether we are able to have confidence in this car -

some hard to overlook quirks

Reverse speed is oddly high, cycling through the drive modes doesn't reset the level of regenerative braking which is wildly bad and dangerous design. The charging started audio is comical and very loud and unusual. Hyundai didn't want to spend money to create a frunk due to US laws around having a latch for children that may be trapped inside.

Handling & safety features are excellent. User interface is not good.

I love driving the Ioniq 5 but interacting with it is not easy. The HVAC controls are implemented on a featureless panel using blue light. It is impossible to view and operate in bright light especially while wearing sunglasses. The memory seating does not work in our own garage, where we mostly would use it, because the door buttons do not activate when the door is opened. The driver facing camera repeatedly and annoyingly issues a "Take a break" message even when the feature is disabled.

Great vehicle with poor software choices

I've had the 2025 Ioniq 5 for several months now and have driven it on trips and daily local driving. It's a great car overall, but has some missteps. I purchased the XRT submodel and have been pleased by the smoother semi-offroad suspension. The interior looks nice and is very functional. The seats look nice, but they aren't all that comfortable and probably need to be worn-in. As our vehicle has the NACS charge port as standard, we've charged at different Superchargers and destination chargers and that experience has been okay for location with longer charge cables to reach the opposite-side charge port. The included home 120V charger is, however, unreliable. It frequently disconnects and reconnects and is noticably wasteful (about 30%) with energy losses during charging. Get a Level 2 home charger to minimize losses. We are disappointed that it was hard to locate an XRT model in the right color, as most dealerships either had 1 XRT or none at all. It seems to be exceptionally limited in availability. The biggest downside to the car is the built-in vehicle software and the poorly-designed mobile app. Remote commands on the mobile app take a LONG time to reach the vehicle, sometimes 2-4 minutes. This is ridiculous. The mobile app doesn't support phone key on any phone not Samsung, Apple, or Google. That's a ridiculously lazy failure. The app buttons an UX are poorly designed. I don't need a separate button to Start and Stop climate controls, nor a separate Lock and Unlock button. These should be 1 button that changes state to indicate current operational status. It is unnecessary clutter and your UX designers should be ashamed. Also, having a popup in the app that comes back 15 seconds after being dismissed *every time* is another ridiculous failure. Lets get into the OS choices for the vehicle. Hyundai seems to have chosen a new OS for the 2025 vehicles and removed some configuration options present in earlier models, like charge port locking behavior. Now I also hear that OS is going to be abandoned in future models. If you're going to change the OS, at least make it appear to have functional continuity. And stop trying to sell me additional subscription items I don't want.

Where is the trailer hitch wiring harness?

I am disappointed that while the user manual says the vehicle supports towing up to 1500 lbs, and more with installed trailer brakes, my Hyundai dealership parts department says no OEM trailer wiring harness is available. ( there is one available for the 2024 model year but not for my 2025 Iconiq 5
