The door handles ruin it. The interior is bad for kids.

The door handles are infuriating. There is no auto lock, but they make it incredibly obvious to everyone when I've forgotten to lock it. This really needs to be fixed and there's no reason it couldn't be added with a software update. Either auto lock as I walk away or after a set amount of time. I don't care which. The back seat was also set up poorly for car seats. With 3 across, they don't fit well and the seat belts also become very difficult to reach. There are too many nagging nanny features as well including a "wrong way detection" that doesn't understand parking lots. In terms of driving and EV stuff, I have no complaints. Fix the above and you have yourself a five star car.

Great Electric Vehicle. So-so software/user interface

The electric car aspects of the vehicle are great - handling, economy, power, etc. However, the software is very slow, the wireless connectivity with user profiles, phones, etc. is mediocre at best. The car routinely recognizes my phone and unlocks the doors when I walk up, but quite often sets the vehicle to another user profile (often crushing me in the seat). Switching between users is tedious, it takes about 30 seconds for the car to recognize the switch, change profiles, and even then will often toggle the seats and mirrors to the last driver setting, regardless. Engineering "support" is comical. I submitted a ticket 2 months ago, and get a call from a call center, where they don't speak English very well every 7-10 days telling me to just delete everything and try again. Even thought I've done that countless times, they have no real answers and I doubt engineers are actually looking into anything. I'm guessing they'll just hope I get sick enough of getting these useless calls that I close the ticket. We also have a high end Tucson Limited - it also can't make the change between drivers and often the two cars confuse themselves when we walk into the garage. Have several squeaks and rattles after a couple months of use already.

Could be better

I've only had this vehicle for three months, so time will tell about overall build quality. The main reason I chose this vehicle is the availablilty of adjustable lumbar support in both front seats (although it should be 4-way not just 2-way), almost impossible to find in most vehicles. It only won out over the Ford Mach E because of a smoother ride and slightly better responsiveness. My other car is a Tesla and there is no comparison in many features. The steering wheel needs to adjust more to accommodate various drivers. That said, it did fine on a trip to New New England, but the placement of the charging port is awkward, especially since most charging stations are still Tesla. The programming leaves a lot to be desired, common things to adjust are buried in menus that don't make sense or are hard to find and better frunk space would be useful. Also need have at least one usb-a port instead of my having to buy a new cable or usba-usbc adapter.

Good built, very bad software

The car is built really good, range is good. Only complaint is the software. It's like a car built in 2025 with software from 2000.

Cute car but...

Really like the styling of the car, its zip, the UI of the buttons & how easy it is to charge. Also like all the how-to videos and want to watch more of them. But once you own it there are several things that downgrade it IMO. The heat takes a minute or two to heat up and on a cold day having cold air blow at you until it gets warm is really frustrating. When the windows are open, the air blowing in is really strong and loud, making driving with the windows open unappealing. I find the seat really hard and uncomfortable after my daily 1hr (x2) commute. The black interior is a bummer - so monochromatic and hot in the summer, and it seems to show every smudge. The car's alerts are so sensitive - I'll be parked in my driveway and as soon as I turn it on it's beeping at me that I'm too close to everything. I'm parked - of course I'm close to the side. And parallel parking is so annoying - the car hates every aspect of it and lets you know. The 'check the backseat' reminder is always on, vs just when something is put in the backseat, which means you tend to ignore it. There have been two instances when driving that an emergency notice came on scaring me to death. I'm not sure what happened but felt like the car was going to die. It didn't and went away but makes me nervous about the UI. Lastly, I've had the car only 5K miles and there is a paint issue on the right rear near the charging port. Seems a manufacturer defect for some cars per Reddit. Annoying.

Assistive technology

It pulls me into the middle of the road whilst cars are coming at me, when on dirt roads it makes driving unsafe!! It can. Not. Recognize the edge of a dirt road well at all. The soft ware needs more mapping of back country roads or to just turn off the assist when it can’t see lines. It’s actually dangerous.

N/A

I wish the breaks were better but I really wish Hyundai wasn't that cheap to take away the inside comfort light they had in all 2023 models. I got the newest 2025 model and NO comfort lights. Disappointed. Also disappointed by the dealership where I got the car who they lied about quite a few things and when I contacted them AND corporate office, none cared to help. NEVER HYUNDAI AGAIN!

It’s ok.

Dealership/Hyundai is untrustworthy. Range isn’t accurate. No special features. Self driving options are horrendous. Can’t really self park. No drunk. Storage is garbage. Undercarriage protection is made of cheap materials and doesn’t protect the Ioniq 5.

Works great but cannot recommend due to ICCU issues

My car has been great so far, but after hearing about the widespread ICCU failures and Hyundai's poor response as described in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYoOiVsHJTw, I cannot recommend the Ioniq 5.

Could be great...

Great car, but missing some basic convenience features that should be standard on any 2025 vehicle: auto up/down windows all around, wireless charging for phone. Also, there's a noticeable hesitation between 60-70 mph at partial throttle, which is concerning.

AC controls are difficult to see in daylight

The AC control panel in this car includes a tinted lens with "Warm-Blue" illumination which is an idiotic combination if your goal is to actually SEE the controls in daylight! It causes severe glare and is a huge distraction when driving.

Great car. Hyundai needs to figure out 12v battery issues.

I've had my Ioniq 5 for just over 2 months and I love it. It's a fun car to drive with a lot of premium features. But I wouldn't want to rely on it as the sole vehicle in my household. I was not able to start my car yesterday because the 12v battery failed. I understand that 12v batteries are a consumable parts and having one fail after 2 months of ownership isn't impossible, but from everything I've seen online, this has been a huge problem from Hyundai EVs for awhile. It sounds like if Hyundai US was willing to buy higher quality AGM 12v batteries this would be less of an issue (I understand this is already happening in Europe) and I hope there has been progress in finding the overall root cause for why these batteries are draining and failing.

2025 SE lacks basic features for value

First the announcement of the next year model $9500 dollar price reduction for 2026 models the day after federal EV tax credit expired was a real kick in the face. I don’t mind it getting more affordable; I praise that. Rather, it shows that Hyundai was using the tax credit to inflate their profit margins. All versions of car— —Cup holders— quite narrow; should be larger — heated seats: the button needs to be relocated. I keep accidentally turning it on. — the “physical” buttons on dash: the buttons suckkkkk. You combined the worst of touchscreens and physical buttons. It’s a touchscreen physical button with not tactile/ haptic feedback. I lose screen real estate + still have to look when pressing the button. — where’s the physical play / pause button — the created noise for EVs at low speeds is too loud inside the cabin. It’s really annoying. Other EVs aren’t like this — I have no confidence you will support the cars firmware for 5+ years. I feel it will be abandoned by 2027/ 8 and that is unacceptable for this expensive of a car. —ICCU & 12 V battery issues give me anxiety. ICCU could fail right after warranty and then my car is a brick. Until fixed, it should be considered a defective part and covered regardless of warranty period. 2025 SE versions should have given the price essentially everything (the window material, driving features, etc) the SEL had with possible exceptions of — power liftgate (but auto close should be there for accessibility) — leatherette seats — the interior V2L

Great until it's not

We started strong with this car. Had all the bills all the whistles everything I wanted no major complaints little things like no scratches. A little easier on the inside is scuffing needed to replace the floor mats with all weather mats just a little tweaks that needed to get done but then I go outside to get in turn opens the door turns on warnings that the electrical system is having problems. It gives me enough time to drive it out of my parking garage to the street side where the tow truck can get to it from there gets towed to the dealership and I'm waiting to get it back because of electrical problems. This is an electric car. You don't want the car telling you. There's a problem with the electrical system so I like the car I'm just worried about how dependable it is fingers crossed that it turns out to be a good car in the end.

Nothing that stands out

After owning the Ioniq 5 for a while, I have to say it hasn’t really impressed me. Nothing about the car particularly stands out — it feels pretty average overall. For the price and all the hype, I expected more refinement and attention to detail. Some basic features are surprisingly missing. There’s no USB-A slot, which makes connecting older devices inconvenient, and it doesn’t have a step-away auto-lock feature — something that’s standard on many modern cars now. On top of that, the brakes have been squeaky right from the start, which doesn’t inspire much confidence in the build quality. Overall, it’s not a bad car, but for me, it just feels underwhelming and incomplete.
