Could be one of my best

First, the pertinent facts for doing a car review: I'm 75 yrs old (owned over 150 vehicles), 6' 4" 220lbs (don't fit well in a lot of cars) and a car nut (super-critical and somewhat knowledgeable). The 2018 Ioniq Hybrid does most things well. I fit well. The seat cushion supports OK, The A pillar impedes a bit of visibility at corners. (BTW, I cannot drive with the power seat all the way back.) The 6-speed dual-clutch tranny isn't the smoothest and when slowing to a stop I sometimes feel a slight jerk as the electric part of the drive engages.. The tech package is impressive and intuitive (both Apple and Android) and I'm still on the learning curve. I have a long-term car need and the warranties were a deciding factor. How can one ignore a life-time battery replacement/free old battery recycle plan for the original owner? 10 year/100,000 mile is great, too. Two things that kept this car from getting its 5th star: Rear wheel road noise - really needs some insulation back there AND don't push the eco-friendly tires too hard in a turn. The high sidewalls do roll some. I would get the 17" wheel/tire package and sacrifice a bit of economy for better handling. Last, but not least, is the outstanding economy. At day's end the mpg read-out is 55 or higher 90% of the time! And the 1600cc Atkinson-cycle gas engine seems more than up to the performance task when running in "sport" mode and using the cool paddle shifters. Yep, this could be one of my best.

What gas station

I use to travel 38 miles one for a commute by car. I decided on this car for the mpg. I was surprise to find that in the summer which is an ideal condition for batteries that i was averaging between 60 and 65 mpg. The dashboard is laid out well the safety features are great. The automatic braking has saved me a few times when I was cut off in traffic an the other driver hit the brakes. I would give it 5 stars but there is a lot of road noise in the passenger compartment. Other than that I would highly recommend this care especially if you have a long commute. I would try for the plug in hybrid though. I could not buy it because it was not available.

Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid

So far I can not complain. Like the gas mileage and still seems like a good vehicle. Few options will receive a 10. For some darn reason, this Review Summary REQUIRES ME to type AT LEAST 200 Characters OR IT WILL NOT ACCEPT... AGAIN HYUNDAI and dealer are failing in the communication area.

Love the 50+ mpg

I love how that my Ioniq is so smooth and quiet. And I really love how far I can go on a tank of gas. I'm not thrilled with how it brakes though. And the seats could be softer. Visibility is fair thanks to the bar in the middle of the rear window. Because of the rear window design, there is no rest wiper, which makes it difficult in bad weather. But the other features, such as acceleration in a hybrid, gas mileage, heated seats, sun roof, spacious interior, and at a modest price all make up for the few things I dislike. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Ioniq one year review

After one year and 7500 miles my Ioniq hybrid has been trouble free. Extremely excellent fuel economy (usually around 55 mpg). I love the optional technology package. Seamless transition from electric to hybrid. Unfortunately the rear seat is snug, very little leg room, and the roof is very low. I have a child seat in the rear and it's tough to get my 4 year old grandson into the seat. The passenger seat has to be rolled all the way forward or else he kicks the heck out of it. Overall, it is very economical but in a sense it's really only a two person car due to the poor rear seating.

2018 Ioniq

As a first time Hyundai buyer I was a bit hesitant. I am pleasantly happy with my purchase. The car is as advertised. Comparing it with my other car, another brand of hybrid, It is larger and gets better gas mileage. It has better pick up speed and keeps up with highway traffic easier. It could be quieter. Road noise is sometimes annoying. The tires could be the problem. I will try to buy a quieter tire when needed.

Terrific vehicle

I have driven a Hyundai Santa Fe since 2009, and am sold on the brand. We wanted a newer model, but we didn't really want to spend that much money, so we were looking at the Kona & Tucson. I studied the specs, and found the Ioniq sat a whole one inch lower than the Kona & Tucson, and nearly the same cargo room. Being able to have full access to the back was very important, so the hatchback and folding rear seats was a terrific bonus. Then, there was the gas mileage. Holy!! I really wanted an SUV, but for the money, the Ioniq had too many bonuses to ignore. I took a trip three weeks after purchase. Much of the time, there were two people, luggage, and pottery, and for several hundred miles, a good head-wind. During this trip, I put over 3,000 miles on it (ugh), but spent less than $150.00, with gas prices hovering around $2.50/gal!!! I was totally impressed. A little more road noise than I'd prefer, but it's tolerable. Wintertime is a little different - I started my car to let it warm due to severely cold temperatures, and if you run the car without driving it, the mileage drops. Mine dropped to around 30 mpg. Even driving it didn't help too much because I ran the heater and heated seats (one of God's greatest inventions ;). This drop in mileage is the ONLY reason I give this car four stars instead of five. Most times in the summer, I averaged 67 mpg, even running the A/C. The safety features are terrific, and I feel safe, which is super important to me, as I've been in a couple serious car accidents (not my fault). I'll be excited to see the Kona go hybrid, instead of electric only. I would definitely buy another Ioniq, tho. I've taken two long trips in this car and have close to 18,000 miles, and I've owned this car for just over a year. Still think we made the right choice.

2018 Ioniq PHEV

I purchased my Ioniq out of necessity, I commute 150 miles each day in southern California traffic. With California's high cost of gas and bad traffic I was able to reduce my monthly gas bull by over $400, and am able to drive for free in the HOV lane saving me toll money. The folding rear seats and hatch back make it's cargo holding capability great and I was able to carry half of a 12 foot Christmas tree and other large boxes with no problem. The only drawback I have with the vehicle is it takes getting used to the limited rear viewing through the small rear window, the driver seat can get uncomfortable after long drives and it does have limited acceleration which is understandable and I value gas mileage over going fast. Overall coming from having an F-150 to this you can't compare, but the savings make up all the difference. I actually really like this car and am not embarrassed to say it is mine.

Great Mileage and Value

I am getting about 56 mpg in the warm months and about 47 in the cold months (I live in CT). Both numbers are higher than the average I received in my 2010 Toyota Prius (42-45). Although the mpg is high, the vehicle still has sufficient power and I never feel that it is too slow. One thing that was missing that I never thought to investigate is that it does not have a rear windshield wiper - it should. Also, it can be tricky to get in and out of, we frequently hit our heads. I think this is an excellent choice for a fuel efficient vehicle and it is priced well below the Toyota Prius with much better gas mileage.

Fantastic Gas Mileage

I was rather skeptical at first about the had mileage but am a total believer. I average about 65 MPG between fill ups and am truly amazed. I would give it 5 stars but the ride is a little noisy when I'm on ther freeway and I try to stay within the"economy" zone when driving but find it difficult when ascending steep hills and the car's monitor records or as "aggressive". After a year I'm still trying to learn to drive uphill without having this happen. Other than that, I love my Ioniq!!

2018 Ioniq Review

I really enjoy driving the Ioniq. I do wish there was more room to get in and out and that it was more responsive, like the Sonata Hybred I traded in. I'm assuming the new technology will improve with time. I'm looking forward to the autonomous cars to hit the roads. This is my fourth, personal, Hyundai.

Transmission

I still don't understand how the dual shift works or when to use it. I would like to have a different back window with a wiper. My next car will also have a sun/moon roof. Love the car otherwise. Great gas mileage

Sporty, Efficient, Dependable, Affordable, Comfortable

Ioniq intuitively gets over 52 mpg. Driving sensibly easily gets you 55 mpg or more. Handles well. Interior is nicely Iaid out and comfortable despite limited space! The car feels and looks sporty. The price is nice compared to many hybrids. Offers value and performance in a small, efficient package with unbeatable guarantees that provide peace of mind!

40k Miles and still going strong

The Hyundai Ioniq I purchased from Freehold Hyundai last may is still running flawlessly. In a little over one year I have driven my vehicle 40k+ miles and plan on owning it for 10 years or roughly 350k miles. As of today my car has not had a single issue and feels as good to drive as it did the first mile I drove it. It handles very well in all precipitation. It is a comfortable car to drive in, however, my passengers have complained about leg room. I highly recommend getting the intermediate model due to its slightly upgraded interior and controls.

Love the car, but a few, minor issues....

Again, we love this Ioniq overall...it's a very good, vehicular, value-proposition...good usage of space & like the hatch, though would really like to be able to open it both from the inside & from the key fob...very odd to have to do so only via the hatch itself. We would have preferred the plug-in hybrid version, but understood the availability issues. We also would have preferred to have different color choices, inside & out, & the ability to add the additional electronic/security package, but that, too, was not possible. We love the gas mileage during the warm months, but, however, it really seems to tail-off -- though still better than gas-alone -- during cold months. Some of the build-quality items are suspect & it's a bit sluggish pulling-out into traffic, but this is also not a Mercedes-Benz E-550, which is what we replaced.

Mostly GREAT

alert buyers that mileage goes down in cold weather, paint scratches too easily even with soft cloth, seats are too low, CD player needs to be added, more cup holders needed, add beeps or alerts for safety

Comfortable and great gas mileage!

This vehicle gets amazing gas mileage, personally I get 63 mpg during the summer and fall and about 48 once I have winter tires on and start my car early to heat it up. I’ve put over 23,000 miles on it in a year and it’s the best vehicle I’ve owned! You can also switch to “sports mode” and drive it as a regular car. This is handy when you need to quickly pull out onto a busy road and dont want the slowness of the electric vehicle.

Overall very happy with the Ioniq. It is fun to drive and extremely comfortable (far more comfortable than my Suburban). The only complaint at all is the gas mileage dropping so much in the Winter months
