Electric value performance

A very economical EV with plenty of power and 250 mile range. DC fast charging 20 to 80% in 40 minutes. Roomy interior and easy controls, excellent tech and safety features.

is ok but the glitches be glitching

Overall, the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is okay. If you overlook the bulbous design, glitchy creature comforts, and potentially egregious build flaws, this vehicle will do just fine. One of the worst glitches is the volume control for the Bose sound system. If it gets stuck on one particular volume control—i.e., navigation or voice prompts—it becomes nearly impossible to switch it back to any other volume control. Apple CarPlay often crashes, and the in-car navigation's map is difficult to see clearly, which makes it hard to follow. The Kona also falls prey to the trap of technology and comfort being more of a hindrance than a help. When the back seat passengers decide to unbuckle a mere block before exiting the vehicle, the car yells at you long after they have left. My Limited trim came with "parking assist," which I’m not sure why Hyundai decided to include in any vehicle, as it doesn’t work in situations where it might be helpful due to sensory overload and only allows itself to be used when there’s a field of open space surrounding the vehicle. I have had this vehicle for four months, and I have already replaced two of the tires. The perforated seats quickly accumulate debris, and the tiny holes make it virtually impossible to remove anything. To top all this off, my particular vehicle has exposed bolts under one of the seats where every other would-be exposed bolt in the vehicle has a nut and cap on it for security and safety. When I asked both Hyundai customer care and a local dealership about this, I received a lackluster response flippantly disregarding my concerns about a vehicle which clearly should not have passed inspection on the assembly line. Now I’m stuck with a potential death trap of a car which, though a fun and zippy little thing to drive, might kill me at any moment. then again, what more could one come to expect from a Hyundai

Just and OK car. Not really great

Lots of issues. No walk away door locks, no folding side mirrors or HUD. The location of the charge port is going to be a huge problem when you have a fender bender. Needs to be located further up and on the driver side. The drive modes are rough and almost jarring.

Good car, but has many flaws

The car is fine, but I had the 2021 Kova EV and this car is not nearly as good. Major issues: The mileage received on a full charge is less than my previous car, when I think EVs should be getting more efficient, not less; driver side door not opening when putting hand over handle (happens a lot and always at the most inconvenient times (when in a rush, when raining, when dark); cameras not working when frost obstructs them; brake regeneration not working for the first 20 minutes after charging car fully. Minor issues: tow cap always falling out (took my car to Hyundai and they said they fixed it which they did not), issues with the infotainment screen (doesn't stay on favorite stations each time you start car, have to hit multiple things to get to what the screen you want).

Hyundai Kona EV 2025

Overall a good car. The charging is much slower than my 2023 Kona, and I do not get as many miles on a full charge. I would also prefer to have more features like in my last car.

Love the drive, hate the console cluster and infotainment screen

Pleasantly surprised with the comfort and quietness of the car while driving. However, the console cluster and infotainment systems are far worse than any of the other vehicles I've driven. The console cluster is missing important info (like time) and requires too much scrolling to find the info. The infotainment system is similarly disjointed. Why can I not see the time if I want to see the HD radio info (artist and song title)? Why does Android Auto always revert to Pandora and require me to go through many steps to just listen to the radio? It's a frustrating experience in the cockpit!!

3 complaints in comparison to my same 2022 model

3 COMPLAINTS - in comparison to my former 2022 Kona EV: HOME SCREEN VIEW MAP - on 2025 it is so dark during the day as to be almost not readable (see pic); whereas on the 2022 Home screen view map, the map was easily visible during the day. Have design engineers make the 2025 map visible during the day. 2025 AUTO HEADLIGHT SENSOR IS TOO SENSITIVE - even in bright overcast day, the headlights are on. I literally have to turn OFF to conserve batteries. This is not efficient and cuts into driving range. Have design engineers make 2025 headlight sensor less sensitive so one can leave setting on AUTO - as was case with 2022. Many complaints like this on OWNERS' FORUM!! SUN ROOF ISSUE - on 2022 I could tilt the sun roof for flow thru ventilation even on days when temps were in low 80s 'F°'and manually almost close the solid movable ceiling panel, thus getting great ventilation with no solar heat gain AND NOT having to use AC. On 2025, the only way to tilt to sun roof for more flow thru ventilation is to have the solid movable ceiling panel FULLY OPEN, thus exposing interior of car to great solar heat gain. Thus, I am using AC more often, further burdening the battery and decreasing my driving range. Have design engineers make change to the LIMITED model back to manually adjusting the solid movable ceiling panel to allow good flow thru ventilation and no solar gain. ADDITIONAL ISSUE - Factory 12 battery was bad and replaced at 600 miles

Very good but basic

This is a fun little SUV that feels solid, runs well so far, and is easy to drive. It is missing some basic functions though - like Homelink to be able to open a garage door, additional cameras for safety, and reserved seat settings.

No NACS Adapter Provided - Dealer Sent me to Support, No Help

Hyundai announced before the end of the year that they would be providing NACS adapters. When I purchased my new Kona EV in March, I expected the NACS Adapter to be provided. The dealer said that I would have to contact support. I opened a ticket with support and received a response that the program was only valid for cars purchased by the end of January. I couldn't understand why Hyundai wasn't providing for it's new cars, but I accepted the response and then asked where I could buy an authorized adapter. I didn't want to purchase something that might void my warranty. Neither support nor my dealer could tell me what adaptors are approved for use and none are available on the Hyundai Store. So, I'm stuck with no NACS Adapter. Other than this issue, I am happy with my car and my delivery experience.
