Never going back to gas!

Our 2021 Kona Ultimate EV is amazing. There's a lot to learn because it is packed with so many features and conveniences. Heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, great navigation system, sound system..., Too many things to list! It drives and handles well too, and has plenty of headroom for me in both the front and back seats (I'm 6' 2"). Another huge plus is how little of the battery we are using daily thanks to the regenerative braking system. At this rate, we will not have to install a 220 volt charger in our garage. The regular 110 charger is working fine. Thanks Hyundai!

Great ride, unsafe battery

would give it 5 stars if the batteries didn't try to explode and render my vehicle useless. I got the EV vehicle system warning light and it does not turn on. it is now a lemon, living at the dealership, and will take 9 months to replace all batteries. I am paying for a car i cannot use both in financing and in insurance. I didn't even get my titling notice before my car died. I only had it for 2.5 months before this happened, the batteries have been recalled in other vehicles which makes me want to complete stay away from the brand and style used. The EV Kona is one of the best EVs for its value and size and I wish Hyundai used the Battery Cells to manufacturer it instead.

Doesn’t hold a charge.

This vehicle is nice looking and drives really well but doesn’t hold a charge. The charge doesn’t hold, and is oftentimes inaccurate. It sometimes also refuses to charge and doesn’t charge fully, or takes a ridiculous amount of token to charge, no matter the type of charging station. Mileage would drop significantly out of nowhere, which was often very scary and prevented me from ever being able to drive long distances.

Hyundai KONA EV: Be Forewarned - Faulty Electrical Batteries, DON'T BUY OR LEASE

These cars have SERIOUS issues with the electrical battery. After having the car for one year, the battery died and had to be towed to the dealer. Car was at dealership for three weeks and reportedly a new battery was installed. Car is back at dealership less than a month later with more issues with the battery. Save yourself time, energy, money and frustration and look for another car manufacturer.

It's A Computer, Then a Car.

Way over-automated, over featured and difficult to use. Handling is a dream. A great car for running errands or a short commute. Beyond that I wish I had something else 90% of the time. Impossible for any sort of distance travel unless one enjoys hanging out at malls for hours. A January trip of 275 miles or so was horrible. VT to south of Boston. To get to a charging station so we could make the trip with only one hour long charging stop we couldn't use the heat beyond seat heaters. Even in Wool/down/polartec I was uncomfortably cold. Integration with an iPhone is awful. We randomly have iTunes start playing even if it is not open on the phone, without doing anything related to iTunes or the display panel. There is no clock unless you have the big display panel on. Switching gears (from R to D) is buggy, with no tactile means of knowing that anything has or has not been engaged. Rear visibility is poor.

It’s a good zippy car for short commute only. Not an ideal car for long commute as the leg room is very limited. Cargo space is also very limited. Limited seat adjustment, it won’t improve the seat ergonomics.

it’s a peppy car that is OK. I’m 6’2” and the center counsel is a major issue. It interferes with my knee when I’m driving. Fun to drive until my knee bothers me. I wanted base model but dealer forced me into mid model.

On my second one in 18 months

First one had to to be taken back by Hyundai after 4,000 miles due to defective battery which they could not get replaced. The latest on has had the Regen-transmission fail at 13,000 miles and will take 2 or more weeks to get part and replace.

Kona - 5 Star Vehicle that can’t deliver

Everything about the EV Kona is first class, except what matters most to me, the battery range. Advertised at 250-300 miles per charge, the reality is that during the summer and winter, when the A/C or the heat is needed on a long journey, the actual mileage maxes out at about 180 miles. The meant that a 4 hour trip turned into a 5 + hour trip and this was repeated on the return journey. You are also at the mercy of the charging stations working and being available when your battery is under 20%. Everything else about the EV Kona was great. EV manufacturers have to be honest with consumers because the reality is much different to the advertising.

Love this car, but heater broke after just 5000 miles

Very pleased with this car so far. But having the heater and defroster break after just 5,000 miles was hugely disappointing. Took dealer 30 days to diagnose and fix the problem ($6K in repair costs, covered by warranty). Seating is always very comfortable for me in Hyundai vehicles. Only other major complaint is the relatively high interior noise level from road noise; I noticed a much quieter interior in the Sonata that I used as a loaner vehicle. I think Hyundai has to do a lot more work with its dealer training/expertise for EVs, as there seems to be minimal experience with anything other than trivial routine maintenance (e.g. changing the cabin air filer), and one local dealer didn't seem at all interested in my maintenance business. It seems clear to me that local dealers' service teams are still primarily oriented to gas vehicles, with maybe only 1 or 2 EV techs on staff

Great car, but far from perfect.

Some inherent bugs. Brakes sometimes freeze, especially when in cruise control. Rear view camera should have birds eye view and the colors on the screen are confusing and inaccurate. Great mileage - better than advertised. Should have USB ports in rear seat.

EV is great

Love this car, the instant acceleration and ease of use makes it an amazing entry level EV car for anyone looking or on the fence about electric but turned off by high prices. The car has a lot of power for it's size and appearance so it's deceptively fast. Perfect commuter car or daily driver around the city.

Great range for the price

Great range for the price. I wish the ride quality was better. You can feel the road at all times which is not always ideal. Styling and features are really well thought out and very easy to use. Overall, I'd recommend.
