Needs a new engine at only 13,000 miles

Our engine started making a variety of strange noises. We have owned it for only a year and it's only at 13,000 miles. We took it to a dealership and they told us it needs a whole new engine. They made it sound like this is pretty common with Hyundai's. Anything else we liked about the car is pretty irrelevant now. We were enjoying all the bells and whistles before this happened, but who cares now?

2020 kona has been a good car need help with transportation 1 Recall problem break problem engine problem crank engine problem Was happy with the car for the 1st 9 months had a lot of issues with the dealership not answering the phone problem getting parts lack of service lack of manpower at the Hyundai dealership I purchase this car to commute to work every day 30 to 40 miles A-day I don't have a car at the toll payed out of my own pocket Need help with a loner to get to work waiting list 15 people in front of me need help

My car has been at the dealership for over 3 weeks no parts backorder engine problem solve for a problem crank shaft issue brake problem Spoke to customer care Hyundai USA they're just calling no answer No car to get to work have to catch public transportation this really sucks for me with covid Very concerned about my safety With covid and the car With engine problems shutting off and break problems hydraulic break problems

Not a quality vehicle

Small interior, engine issues, doesn’t drive smoothly. Pricing is reasonable but there is no storage space. The vehicle handles ok in winter weather but there are better options out there for equal price

Fix the ignition hack that is published all over social media. You are the laughing stock of the automotive industry! So, a kid can start your vehicles in less than 1 minute with a an apple phone charging cable? Good job genius!!!!!

see all my comments...........the engine stalled, and caused a crash into a parking lot pole.the car only had aprx 3850 miles on it, after driving for aprx one year.............hyundai would not even go to the parking lot, to see that there was NO WAY i could have been driving fast, as i was in the parking SPACE, ready to exit the car within seconds, when the engine stalled. hyundai does acknowledge that kona's are having that type of problem, i think the kon'a electric cars already had a billion dollar lawsuit against them. well, my kon'a apparently had the same problem, but nothing was done to help me. all i asked was for hyundai to buy my car back, and they wouldn't even do that.

Love the car, wouldn’t recommend until theft problem is solved

See you tube, how the steal a Hyundai Kona, very disappointed that I contacted Hyundai with no response after my car was broken into and it cost me approx $1,000 to fix and rent a car and I still don’t feel comfortable parking it anywhere now

engine had to be replaced due to oil not getting to the pistons at 31,000 miles not my fault - all recalls were taken care of by Hyundai dealership and all oil changes and tune ups were also taken care of by me at Hyundai ndealerships new engine was covered by warrenty 100 %

Was really looking forward to loving this vehicle but have been not wowed so far. My car has less than 1500 miles and already making noises. I would not have purchased if I knew there was a problem. Not a satisfied client.

Great little car met my expectations only problem is the motor is bad, it loses oil every 800 miles, no leaks so it must be burning ?? The dealer I purchased it from is working closely with me to correct this problem, hence only a 5 rating in my reliability rating.

the vehicle is reliable and stylish however it is extremely uncomfortable and noisy. The speedometer reads in three places on the dash but none of them match the other, they continually run three to four miles different from one another....

Defects

I bought my car brand New and few months later all my plastic components on the exterior of my car bumpers, doors, windows got discolored still hasn't been fixed, check engine light comes and go and another light.

Good little SUV

Good little SUV that gets great fuel economy. Space is a little limited in the back seat and hatch area. Has a lot of options for safety, comfort and technology. Navigation and entertainment system are very easy to use.

Cheap quality parts used during assembly!

Hyundai used cheap grade trim parts! I have had my Kona 3 months and all black trim on this Kona Ultimate looks like it has been bleache out! These. Items are turning white! Took Kona to dealership was informed that this happen if you wax the trim. Figure that out! I didn't wax any of these items, but they claim I did. The Kona is a nice sub compact suv but should have better quality then what was used. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!

Engine recalled

I want my vehicle fixed properly because the replaced engine makes constant noises and not quiet at all. I am beginning to think the reached engine is a recall and this vehicle is a lemon. I has been at the dealer more than 3 times for the same issue and the issue still is not resolved

If you buy this car, go ALL out. Do NOT get the basic package!

The Kona was our 12th Hyundai and we definitely rate it at the bottom of all the models. Unless you go with the deluxe package, don't bother with this car. It's subpar compared to other Hyundai models. Had a number of issues with oil leaking and the dealership was unable to locate the issue. Only to have a recall come out almost a year after owning the car. Escalated to Hyundai Corporate US and given a case number. Never received any follow-up. Disappointed overall!

Kona problems

The car was great at first, but after five months it started stalling when i would slow down. The check engine came on, took it to the dealership and they said i needed an oil change. So they gave me one. Not even a week later, it happened again but more frequently. Thats the last time i drove my car. Its been in the repair shop at the dealership for 5 months. They couldnt find the cause of the problem for a long time, and the had no ides what to fix. Meanwhile there was a recall on some parts of my car, but no fix. Finally they got the parts to fix only to be told that they have no idea when it will be fixed.

Quite Good As A Car.

But, I down-grade it because it does NOT have a CD Player, the displays and screen buttons are too complicated and the owner's manual is too hard to comprehend. Otherwise? Hey! We really love our KONA.

Its a nice car

Need to know about the recalls in a timely fashion. Especially concerning the engine. If you want me to do this guit expecting more, it’s a nice car for the money, accelerating is chunky is probably my most complaint!

High oil consumption. Defective engine rings No confidence in thus vehicle for long trips as you never know if the engine may have issues and hyundai just says wait till it blows up and we will fix it.

Cabin very noisy, manual nor very to understand (could not find what kind of gas to use), confusing display (two formats of time not being equal). Daylight savings time changed a day early.

Noisy cabin is very irritating. Gas paddle not properly placed. Cooling is slow and not adequate. Many other shortcomings. Hyundai needs to hire American engineers to make it compatible to our liking.
