Not a great experience so far

I really liked this car, the size, the style, a small car that 'feels bigger'. However it has a defective automatic transmission that the dealer seems to be at a loss to know how to fix it. What good is a 100Kmi warranty if the car needs repeated attempts to fix ?

Quick review

Loved our previous Elantra Touring. Not in love with the Kona. Had to buy a car ( as we needed it right before the world shut down due to covid), but if there wasn’t the pressure of the shutdown timeline I’d have bought something else. I wish I’d have bought something else.

Like it but won’t go when you press the pedal.

I really like my Hyundai Kona except that when you press the gas pedal, there is way to much hesitation. I have reported this multiple times to the dealership and each time they say there is nothing to fix because this is due to the type of transmission the is equipped with. The vehicle does everything I need it to do but due to this hesitation issue I could never recommend it. I would love to test drive a Kona EV but unfortunately they do not sell them in my state.

Shop Before You Buy

I strongly suggest looking at other vehicle if you’re looking for performance with quality. To many people are being sold on Hyundai’s because of the warranty and outward appearance of the vehicle, however you ride in the vehicle, so you want to be comfortable. Also the warranty has it’s limitation as well. I am not new to Hyundai’s purchases and overall I have purchased Hyundai’s mostly, but very recently I have considered purchasing vehicles from other manufacturers because of the quality of their products and resale vehicle.

This car hasent performed as promised . Very noisy , rough ride Slow , small , tight and terrible on the Highway The sound system is terrible . The speakers are like a tin cans The overall enjoyment of this car is poor

Engine doesn’t have Evan the normal accelerate

Vehicle is being weak to run engine does not have any power even in the normal road sometimes there is no acceleration for engine to move. The exterior of the car is cute but the problem is all about the engine and break noises

Kona 2022

The car has a lot of recalls and issues for being a brand new car, I feel like I’m constantly having problems and issue with it. Also makes a lot of noises when I drive it especially when turning and doesn’t pick up a lot of speed.

Engine Oil Issues

This vehicle was TOTALLY fine until we received a recall notice. Once we had it serviced, it has never been the same and CONSTANTLY EATS OIL. I am dissatisfied with the level of service received and would like the dealership to correct the issue.

Engine Issues

Love the two Konas we have in general. But both Kona engines consume oil to the point where, if not monitored, it will go off the bottom of the dipstick between oil changes (approx 5k miles). These engines have issues! The insulting part is Hyundai Dealer tells us this is "normal" and was designed that way. Really? Hyundai designed an engine to make tapping noises and consume oil? This is bogus and disappointing.

Once again, the handling of the factory engine recall was a nightmare.

No more words to say, this is taking too much time. Not sure why I have to write 200 words just to waste more time on this issue just so my review will go through. A customer should NEVER have to pay out of their own pocket for a rental because of a factory recall on an ENGINE. The amount of inconvenience I had to go through during the oil consumption tests was insane. Thank God I recognized the car was having issues before the factory recall letter came in. I had a brand new car burning oil and an insane rate.

Braking and Window

You can't open the windows while driving rear windows the noise & the pressure is terrible and painful to the ear, its like you're on the airplane. Rear will lift right at slight braking. SHOCKING !

This is an average vehicle. Good gas mileage. Comfort is okay. Interior room is tight. Not enough leg room in the back seat. Power around town is great. Handles highway speeds well. Pretty exterior. Love the white paint

Love my Kona, disappointed in HMFUSA

Let me start by saying that i love my Kona. I loved my Tuscon and i loved my Santa Fe. I've been a loyal customer for over 6 years. Ive been trying to contact HMFUSA for a month. Phone calls disconnected, emails tell me to call. I can't rely on Hyundai to honor their offer, or even give me the courtesy of speaking with someone, then I'd rather not be part of the Hyundai family

Fun car but not enough space

Car was fun to drive & had a lot of great features. The hard plastic & net behind the front seats should be the same seat material. The back seat is too small & doesn't accommodate a car seat comfortably. There's too much hard plastic around the wheel wells & rear bumper. I would prefer the same paint color.

2020 kona turbo

Not happy with the problems I had as soon as i bought car. When i called Hyundai they informed me there was nothing that could be done with the problems I was having and the dealership had my car more than i did. Was very upsetting and very disappointing with Hyundai themselves.

ok for the money

Although the exterior is stylish and cute, the rear seat and trunk are too small for passengers or parcels. It has excellent pick up and easily merges onto highways thanks to the turbo. The transmission is choppy however and does not offer a smooth experience. The screen is easy to use and works well with both car play and android auto. i love the Hyundai app especially in inclement weather. It is fun to drive because of the ease of maneuvering, but very hard riding.

Engine issues

Engine surges during acceleration and coming out of a complete stop. Occasional climate control problems. Back seat area is pretty small. Audio package is nice. Exterior design is nice and sporty. Not ideal for big families.

Decent for a small car.

I bought this car hastily. I should have bought the Tuscon Sport like I intended. Kona is on. Just too small. I feel they went cheap on some of the features. Engine was also replaced at 7k. I know better next time.
