Transmission Out after 1300 miles

Loved the truck for the 28 days I got to drive it. Transmission went out while sitting at a stop light in busy traffic on a hill. It’s been at the dealer repair now over two months with excuse after excuse and delay after delay to get the new transmission in for replacement. I’ve made three car payments since they have had it with no eta on when I’ll get it back and no assistance on payments or anything other than I got a rental car.

So much promise, terrible DCT reliability, and even worse repair times

https://www.santacruzforums.com/threads/who-has-two-thumbs-just-had-a-transmission-failure-and-is-stuck-on-the-side-of-the-highway.10883/ Aside from the obvious issues with reliability, I’m otherwise fine with the Santa Cruz. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to trust it on a long trip with the potential of the transmission killing itself again.

Horrible transmission

The vehicle is fun to drive but there is wrong with the transmission where when changing from reverse to drive it stays in reverse. The sound is also terrible even with the “premium” option. The fuel tank is so small you will have a 280 to 300 mile range.

Worst purchase I ever made. I hate this truck. Your leasing department forced me into a new vehicle when I wanted to buy my Kona. I will not be getting Hyundai again anytime soon. I miss my Kona and hate the Santa Cruz

I’ve had many issues with my 2022 Santa Cruz.

Wishing the first 2 weeks a control module went out and I had no heat in the middle of winter then the vehicle broke down 29 days after purchasing the vehicle and sat at the shop for 4 months. Also 2 months after I receive my car back the head gasket blew and I had multiple cylinders misfiring.

Apple car play and door panels replaced within first 3 months dealership didnt believe me that the apple car play didn’t work. Needed 2nd phone to record the issues to prove got lost several times during this time dropped calls daily

Grayson Hyundai Knoxville, ruined my Santa Cruz and Hyundai Customer service would not make the situation right

Hyundai did not fix my vehicle after the Grayson Hyundai in Knoxville, TN left the dipstick out that saturated my engine, engine bay and underneath side of my vehicle making it a fire hazard and completely unreliable by running it low on oil and allowing debris into the engine. They cut the oring on the oil dipstick (I have pics) to place blame on the dipstick rather than make the situation right. Hyundai customer service did not care to fix the situation either. I cannot drive this vehicle with any confidence because it could catch on fire.

Vehicle been at dealer longer than in my driveway

Multiple trips for repair. As of today it’s been at the dealer since February 3 and still making payments. Tore up twice had it hauled in was too embarrassed for the third time. Lady at dealer said multiple other problems was why it always takes so long to schedule repairs

Looks good but the quality just isn't there

Before I even had 10,000 miles on this car, I had a rock go through the front grill and knock a hole in the radiator. I use the Hyundai assistance button for a tow and the first dealership told me not to bring it to them because he didn't want to have to worry about it while it was waiting to be serviced. He actually told me to take it where I bought it. The second dealership had a much better attitude. However, they would not cover the repairs to my vehicle because they said it was not a warranty issue. I believe it was poor design and that it was actually their responsibility. Nonetheless, I paid for the repairs. Right at 10,000 miles my rear brakes started squealing all the time. When I took it to the dealership they said they couldn't hear it so they didn't even look at the brakes. Around 12,000 miles I started feeling a clunk in the steering wheel every time I would turn into or back out of a parking spot. All this happened within the first 6 months of ownership. It was just too much for me I no longer own this vehicle.

Don’t buy

This vehicle buys you nothing but a headache. Transmission is confused the interior components are very cheap. There’s a lack of power and fuel economy has dropped tremendously from the time of purchase. When getting service done on your vehicle, it is a nightmare because they have no idea what they’re doing and I get lied to about everything.

Transmission recall

I had problems with the vehicle in less than 6 months of use. Dealership, customer service and Hyundai customer care were all horrible. I needed a new transmission and still had to pay $10000+ I waited 5 months for repair and 6 months for a minor solution.

Love the features hate the transmission

Transmission went out on brand new truck 28 days after purchase. Transmission went out again exactly 9000 miles after they replace the first transmission. Transmission went out again one week after they fix the second transmission. After that I told him I was trading it in or filing for the lemon law. .

Eng light before 30,ooo miles dealer ship not help full at all will never buy another one

Not a very good car so far. dearler ship not help full at all the worst dealer ship i ever had to deal with can't evan change oil with out a problem and when you have one they are no help at all.recall take to long and you must rent a car.

Manufacturer cannot fix "Simple" issue

Overall, the Santa Cruz is the answer to a question nobody asked, until the answer was put right in front of them. A sensibly sized pickup truck is something that the car community joked for years would never happen again. All vehicles with a "bed" would be comically small imports from the 90s or modern over-engineered and oversized LEGO bricks that exist only to suck oil right from the well in droves. Enter the Santa Cruz, a pickup truck for humans. Besides the exterior styling that came straight from Mars, a vehicle with space for 5 adults, that also has space for all your camping equipment, a towing capacity to tug along a pontoon boat, and plenty of aftermarket support already, all in a package the same length as a Camry with better offroad capabilities than most new Subarus? That's nothing to sneeze at. The SEL trim comes with more than enough driver assists than should be necessary, but not so many that you'll want to rip your hair out every time you need to change a setting or dare to try to zipper into a 2 into 1 lane. The AWD system and 8 speed automatic transmission make the most of the 191 horsepower engine under the hood. You won't be winning any races, but if you were really trying for that, you would've bought an Elantra N instead. This powertrain provides plenty enough pull for the average joe going to work, or the family going on a weekend camping trip out of town. Just learn to drive like a person and not a maniac and you'll be served fine without a turbocharger. Interior comfort is unparalleled by even Toyota or Honda, for the price point. AC that actually blows cold, the fastest front and rear windshield defrosts I've seen on an SUV/Pickup Truck, and 3 stage heated front seats certainly came as a surprise for me when I was researching the SEL trim over the SE. Though not the goodies that sealed the deal for me, they're absolutely nice pluses. So, I love it. Why 1 star? I've been having the same defect with it for 6 of the 12 months I've owned it and after 4 repair attempts and about 2 and a half of those months of the vehicle being completely out of service, I just can't recommend anyone buy it. When it works, it works. When it doesn't, it'll haunt you and send a feeling of dread into your soul, knowing if you have a 30 year old Civic, it probably won't have half the road noise due to wear and old age that this thing makes due to a defect.

Can’t fix misfire

After 23,000 miles vehicle started misfiring. After 62 days and counting dealer has not been able to fix. Dealer has returned keys 4 times saying fixe with reoccurrences ranging from zero to 70 miles driven.

Beautiful but flawed

Vehicle has a beautiful design, but with the engine problems, I incurred and the electric problems with the instrument cluster. I would not consider buying this car ever again. I am really surprised that Hyundai made such a poor quality vehicle. I thought they were as good as Japanese vehicles, but I was wrong.

Not satisfied/would not buy Hyundai Again

Check engine light has been an issue since purchasing without a resolution. Was told that it would go off and be fine but it has not; not available to schedule service in a timely manner; no priority for pre existing service not fixing issues; having to wait to have problems resolved with oil changes and routine maintenance.

Oy buy the high-end model or choose something else

I would like to update this review in the next few months. I overall love this vehicle its failed me in the first 4 months of ownership. I spent alot of money on it N 8k in repairs because I slid into an ice mound. I wish I could've afforded the highest end model to prevent the issue from occurring. I have alot to say reachout if you wish

Mixed emotions

It took several months to get my Cruz and dealt with massively inflated prices within a 250 radius of Knoxville. $10k, $8k, and $4k over sticker due to availability (price gouging opportunity) and all the the Santa Cruz have dents in the rear passenger doors. It must be an imperfection in the molds but it’s there. I looked at three Santa Cruz’s that came in. I had to put a $500 deposit just get one of the three at $4000 over sticker and all three had the dents. My interior after the first month has rattles, I drive primarily on two lane highways 55mph so no excessive bumps. Right now I have paper jammed in the light on the overhead console because the rattle is so distracting. This vehicle was said to get 27 mpg… No, not even close. 23 if it’s not windy, I can get 23 out of a Jeep Gladiator with a 6 cylinder. I’m older I don’t drive aggressively, this is just sickening. Towing… if you can get everything you need is the first problem. The receiver isn’t an option for the inflated advertising of towing 5k lbs. Since it’s a DEALER installed option it’s $948!! That’s only a 4-pole (pin) wiring harness so you can’t legally or safely pull ANYTHING without a 7-pin wiring for trailer brakes (this isn’t an option or available). THEREFORE, you can only pull about 1500-1700lbs just using the vehicle brakes. Since there is no 7-pin through Hyundai, if you can try to get a Kia dealer to sell you one for a Tellride (they won’t do it unless you have a VIN#). So at this point 1500-1700 is what you get.
