Visual appeal does not make up for lack of performance

I love the looks of this car and it is comfortable, but the transmission is a deal breaker. I have to pump the gas pedal to pull out in traffic or pass a car on the highway. Most of the time it feels like the car is stuck in 4th gear when I take off.

Its a nice car, i just wish I did not experience the issues the car had.Also, a customer should have the ability to bring it back if issues are experienced especially driving issues. i believe in keeping the customer happy and if you want to keep a customer than give them the option to make them happy. atleast give them the option to trade in the vehicle for these experiences

Lots of Problems....

We had to replace the transmission during the first 18 months of ownership, normal driving, no towing or extreme conditions. Battery died just out of warranty with the starter having difficulty starting the car. Car is sluggish at times and seems to lurch in park. We will choose another manufacturer next time.

Pretty but overpriced and poor quality

The seats do not have arm rests. The Accelerator is not positioned very well, when my foot is on the gas pedal I can't rest my heel on the floor, so my foot and leg cramps after a while. I purchased this car brand new 9 months ago and the exterior paint is already chipped in some places. When the car is in reverse, the brakes grind. When I speed up to pass a car, the engine sounds like a race car. It advertises 19 MPG city and 24 MPG highway. In city driving I am averaging 14 to 15 MPG. I previously owned a Chevy Tahoe and it got the same gas mileage as my Santa Fe and it was a V8. For the money I paid for this vehicle, I wish I would have gone ahead with another Chevrolet. I went with the Santa Fe because I do love the body style and it has the 60,000 mile warranty. When I buy a new car I like to feel like I love it so much I can't stay out of it. With the Santa Fe, I like it okay but I do not love it. I have only had it 9 months so I can't really testify to it's reliability, but so far it's good. I do love the body style, it's sporty looking for a SUV. Had I only paid about $24,000 for the vehicle then I guess I would be closer to saying I love it, but as of now I can only say it's okay.

Windows

Highly upset with it, a lot of air comes In through the windows. In the winter the windows have literally frost ice in the inside. You can actually feel air coming through and the windows are closed.

Engine clicking

Same engine problems as my 2015 Sonata which ended up replacing the engine at 10000. The only pro's are Hyundai didn't charge me for the engine replacement but it was so scary when the engine died in the middle of traffic.

Bad suspension

I get they tried to make this model sportier, but it rides like an old car. Very disappointed in tires/suspension. Tried to get into Hyundai service for a review and all they would tell me is the shocks check okay. No offer to look into other fixes/issues.

Warranty??

Under 3 years old and under 36000 miles. Paint is starting to peel. Was informed not covered under warranty. So warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. If will not honor warranty on paint, will other warranty issues be honored.

Think maybe I got a lemon

I like the technology that the Santa Fe has to offer. I like how it drives on the highway and in the city. I do not like that in 2.5 years I have had to take it in for check engine light at least 4 times. On one occasion the service department kept it for 2 weeks and the last time it was there for 28 days

Love my Sante Fe but paint is peeling off

I really love my Sante Fe. It is a better car than my previous Toyota but THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF AND THE CAR LOOKS UGLY. Much better gas mileage than my old Toyota and car is fun to drive and very comfortable. If the paint was not peeling off I would be very satisfied with the car.

Nice car

I like my Santa Fe except for a hard-shifting transmission problem that makes me afraid I will get stranded somewhere. The dealership seems to not be able to replicate the problem and/or fix it. Two trips already.

Back seats rattle like crazy

Took it to Elder Hyundai while under warranty. They said they were ordering a new back seat due to excessive rattle. Called multiple times and never heard back. Probably not under warranty any longer. Not impressed with that dealership or how they do business. Back seat still rattles like crazy.

Major disappointments...

1. I had a rear main seal leak at only 36,000 miles. It was a major repair and the engine had to be pulled. At least it was covered under warranty. 2. I noticed major paint peeling under the rear window in the trunk area after 3 1/2 years. Interesting that the warranty was good for 3 years or 36,000 miles. This is a big issue for me!

Strange Hesitation

My 2017 Sante Fe Hesitates when accelerating from a stop and when accelerating after slowing down to make a turn. It doesn't do it every time, just randomly. After 24 hours at the shop they reset some settings but nothing changed. They said it was learning how I drive?! And it should go away after another 1500 miles. Let's hope so, because it is a little more then annoying on a $40,000 car!

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited

Vehicle is excellent in all respects, except serious and hazardous hesitation when slowing to around 10 mph, then accelerating. This fact alone is the reason for the lower recommendation. In fact, the same problem has been reported by many similar owners on social media (try a simple Google search).
