Piece of shit

Bought a used 2010 Hyundai Sonata in 2018 with only 58,000 miles on it and good service records. Serviced it when mileage indicated. At 68,000 miles, the oil pressure light came on and in 3/4 of a mile (before I could get off the Red Mountain expressway) the engine was gone. What a piece of shit. I will never even ride in a Hyundai again.

This car has issues.

This car has a lot off issues, first, do expect to replace your car door handles on a pretty normal basis. Second, the O2 sensor connectors that the O2 sensor connects to will corrode at about 5k miles. Third, the way the brakes are designed, when you change your brakes expect to change the rotors as well.

OK at the right Price

The key word for this car is CHEAP. Not price, but quality. This car was $24,000 new ten years ago and I’m still trying to figure out why. If you can get it for less than $2000, it would probably be worth it

2010 sonata

We had a 2003 Sonata. Ran great, only 2 problems. The radio/cd player needed replace in the first 3 years. Acted up again later but no longer covered. We had to have rust treated repeatedly. Last year with only 88000 miles on it the frame rusted. My 2010 has started to rust. It has only 48000 miles on it. Jim

Love driving this car, BUT . . .

The Sonata has had an intermittent hesitation problem since I bought it with 17,000 miles on it, especially when using cruise control I've taken it for service twice, and it's okay for a while, but then starts hesitating again. It finally slowed almost to a stop 75 miles from home and the dealership, and the check engine light came on. The dealership tried to find the problem over the course of several days, no codes at all on the computer, finally took the car home and am now afraid to trust it not to quit on me again. The other problem is maddening! I have carried a battery starter in my trunk since I bought the car BUT when the battery died I discovered that there is no way to open the trunk when the battery I'd dead!! So you have to keep a battery charger or your jumper cables in the car, not in the trunk. A major design flaw, if you ask me!

Just barely average car.

My first and last Hyundai. 78,000 miles on the car. At only 30,000 miles one fan belt pulley had to be replaced - under warranty. At about 35,000 miles rear brake assemblies on both sides had to be completely replaced - calipers, pads, rotors - under warranty. However this repair left me stranded out of town for a day in Michigan (I live in Cleveland, Ohio) because one of the rear wheels suddenly seized with no advanced warning. Glad it happened just before I got on a freeway. At 65,000 miles both complete rear brake assemblies had to be replaced again - same as at 40,000 miles. This time work was not under warranty - about $500. I understand there is a class action lawsuit in the State of New York because of similar excessive rear brake failures on this model of Sonata. At only 70,000 miles the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced - not under warranty - about $700. I live in Cleveland, Ohio so the air conditioner does not even work very often! At only 77,000 miles the check engine light came on. Fuel pump casing leaking. Entire fuel pump assembly had to be replaced - not under warranty - $1,000. This fuel pump replacement was just two days ago and we have not driven the car since. I hope that the check engine light remains off and that something else will not shortly turn on the check engine light again! A couple years ago my wife pulled down the passenger side sun visor and lifted the mirror to open it. The mirror immediately broke from the very inadequate assembly. I jerry rigged fixing it and it still works fine but my wife opens it very slowly - pretty much as she did even before it broke. At about every 35,000 miles - at every few oil changes - the dealer keeps trying to get me to replace the transmission fluid. I assume this is to keep up the warranty. For some reason they claim that just driving the car in Cleveland, Ohio immediately classifies our driving as "severe use" that requires replacing the transmission fluid often. They talked me into it the first time but I have refused ever since. In reality we use this car almost solely for trips of hundreds of miles of freeway driving at a time. I would say that of the 78,000 miles, about 70,000 were on freeways at hundreds of miles at a time. The transmission has hardly shifted! I am 68 years old and have owned many cars and driven them many miles. I do not recall ever being told I must replace the transmission fluid - much less about every 35,000 miles. I have never had a transmission failure! Otherwise the dealer where I purchased the car has done a great job in performing all the repairs - except for the extremely helpful Hyundai dealer in the Detroit area. That dealer replaced the rear brake assemblies the first time and did a great and timely job that got me back on the road ASAP - especially considering that I was from out of town and did not purchase the car from him! Also - regarding this out-of-town incident - the Hyundai emergency call system worked perfectly! I am very torn because otherwise we really like our 4 cylinder 2010 Sonata Limited! It is a great driving car - especially on the freeway. It runs very smoothly and quietly and gets great gas mileage. The engine could be a bit more powerful but is certainly adequate. The leather seats are extremely comfortable and supporting - especially over hundreds of miles of driving at a time The in-dash navigation system has always worked perfectly and has actually gotten us out a few jams - such as instantly safely guiding us around out-of-town surprise freeway ramp closures. XM radio works great. The body and paint job are still perfect. However I still think that I am going to trade it in because I think I am picking up a trend of a series of expensive maintenance issues developing. As I mentioned, I am 68 yrs. old and have owned many cars. I have not had to have most of these repairs ever done on any of my other cars - until I owned this one Hyundai. The cars are beautiful, fairly inexpensive compared to other brands, and run great. The problem is the component parts must be made very inadequately and wear out before average time and are expensive to replace. That's why I will shortly trade this car in. Its a shame because this beautiful car has only 78,000 miles on it and, despite all the expensive repairs, we still really like it!

Car runs great but the body isn’t built strong! I have had 3 broken door handles and the breaks replaced twice! Also it’s very tight in the car now with two kids and forces my wife and I to move up to a bigger vehicle such as a crossover, suv or van due to our desire to drive / travel!

Well I do not like the way it feels on my butt when you go every little bump you feel it. Also, the check engine light comes on then goes off when I go to make an appointment...once I am again feeling like all is well it goes back on. It takes $99.00 for your tech's to diagnosis and at least one hour when we all know that it only takes three minutes to plug in the reader get the codes and maybe five minutes to look up the results using the codes but the customer waits at least an hour for the diagnosis. If the customer can not afford to repair at that time they pay the $99.00 and if you find something that can be fixed the customer only pays for the repair which is usually more than $100.00. The employees are nice. The place is nice to sit and watch TV.

Nice People but ...

I bought my Sonata new in 2010 - Until recently I have had no problems with it. I filled out a review of the service I received. now I have filled out a review of my automobile. I think I have given you enough of my time. If that is not enough characters don't use it.

Hyundai sonata V6

I am satisfied with how the car runs and handles itself. I have almost 120,000 miles on my vehicle. The only issues that I experience with this vehicle is the transmission had to be replaced. The next issue, was the paint job on the car was horribly done. The paint on the car has been flaking off everywhere. This was an issue when I brought it.

HYUNDAI is Pretty good

Overall, my Hyundai has been a great car. The only issues that I had with this particular vehicle was the paint job started flaking off the car. The other issue I have with this vehicle was I had to have the transmission replaced. All of these problems happened later on with this vehicle.

Plastic parts are crap but power train is great.

The engine, transmission, brakes, and steering are great and hold up to my 184,000+ miles on my 2010 Sonata. Dashboard is cracked, shifter knob is crack, both side view mirrors crack and fell off. 3 of 4 door handle have cracked and fell off. The driver seat material has a hole worn in the the back. The radio lcd has dark spots. Vehicle does not hole up over time.

Car runs good, but have had to replace seven door handles so far. For a second car that sits outside it’s okay, but probably wouldn’t buy another one.

This has been a reliable car. Have had to replace the fuel pump. The fact that the door handles break easily indicates to me that they are cheaply made. Have had several cars through the years and that has never happened.

Super Value on a Solid, Reliable Vehicle

Great car for the money! Absolutely no problems with the vehicle (only service department) for over five years now. Nothing in particular "wows" you...but everything works well...not bad looking either. Impressive gas mileage for me...26/33 even with usually aggressive driving. Long Live my Sonata! "Hyundai Like Sunday"!

I have to say my 2006 was the best car I ever had, even better then my Honda. I like the 2010 but they changed a few things out that made my 2006 better. But they are always changing the style and i do love the interior and the looks of 2010. Reminded me of my fathers grey flannel suit.
