Not what I expected

Test drive of 2026 Tucson Hybrid Limited was awesome. Now that I own one, I wonder if it was the right purchase. Upon a fresh start, the engine is quiet. Nice acceleration, etc.. Once the engine warms up, that's when things change. The engine sounds worn out and is much louder than a cold start. Neighbors have asked me what is wrong with my engine because they can hear it when I drive by. I have doubts the engine is going to last. Example: in first, second and maybe third gear....why is the engine charging the battery while accelerating? It goes back and forth between Hybrid and charging. When you'd expect the battery power to be helping accelerate, its not. The dealer had my car in the shop for 2 weeks about 1.5 months ago. No issues found. Said its a small engine. I have a problem with that. If its a small engine issue....why does the engine sound different after the first start in the morning versus after driving on the highway for 30 minutes? I sounds like a worn out engine...something I knew very well back in the days when all I could afford was a worn out car with a worn out engine. Was told by the dealer the reason they kept it for 2 weeks was to rule out a recall on the regular 2026 Tucson's for an engine issue. Something about a loose connecting rod bolts. How in the world does an engine recall happen within a couple of months after a new vehicle is released in 2025??? Hyundai bought back my 2012 Sonata 2.0 due to an engine recall (engine bearing failure). Thankfully that car lasted until 2025.

Too many concerning issues

Like the look and ride of the car. However, we have found three issues that make us sorry we pruchased this vehicle; 1. We understand the gas cap door sometimes gets stuck closed. There is no easy access to open and we are very concerned about getting stuck on the highway with no gas!! 2. We understand the battery can lose most of it's juice from all of the digital updates. It is difficult to access the vehicle with a dead battery as you have covered the key hole!! 3. The vehice constantly alerts us that it is time to take a break. On a one hundred mie trip, it aerted me 20+ times. On a windy day when the car gets moved around a lot, it is even worse. There is no way to shut this off. This really annoys me to the point where i want to get rid of the car after only two thousand miles. 4. I had a RAV4 hybrid. It got close to 40MPG mixed driving. This car is closer to 32 MPG. Traded in a 2023 Santa Fe. Tucson a little smaller but ride is close to the same. All the features are similar. Fuel economy is not as good as advertised. Only drove it 2300 miles so far.

Generally I am very satisfied with this vehicle. My major complaint, and a real weakness, is the backup camera. The image quality is low and it is always exposed , which means it becomes covered with road grime and must consistently be cleaned or it is not usable at all. You should take a note from VW. They locate the backup camera under the logo. When the car is placed in reverse, the logo tilts up allowing the camera to function. Once the car is placed in drive, the logo closes, protecting the camera. Another issue is the height of the center console. It is a little bit too high, and impairs the movement of my elbow when cornering to the right. My only other real complaint is that the gas engine revs at inappropriate times. The RPMs will rev up anywhere between 1.1 to 1.9 when sitting at a stoplight with foot off the gas entirely. They will also rev up as high as 3.3 when going downhill with no pressure on the gas pedal. This appears to occur primarily when the engine is cold. In fairness, the car is new and I have not had a mechanic look at the issue yet. It may just be a tune up issue. At less then 3000 miles, it is too early to accurately rate reliability.

Vehicle is very nice. Smooth, quiet, comfortable and has decent pickup. One disappointment is that I don’t get the rated gas mileage. It’s rated at 35/36 and I get between 26 and 30.

Love it except for one thing!

On Dec 16, I was driving on the NY I-90 during rush hour. Traffic was crawling along as people merged and changed lanes to get to one of the upcoming 3 exits. Suddenly, my car abruptly stopped while I was driving in the middle lane of traffic. Cars continued to crawl along as the car in front of me pulled away. I stepped on the accelerator but my car did not move! Once the congestion clears, cars resume 55 mph but my car was stopped dead and then it happened. I was rear ended. Less than 1000 miles on my car and over $10,000 worth of damages due to an alleged safety feature, front collision avoidance, which I believe could have been avoided if not for the FCA.

Overall I have been very pleased with the car. My one biggest complaint is the how the infotainment system manages SiriusXM. There is no way to see the music information when using the car's radio in conjunction Apple CarPlay. In my opinion this could easily be solved in a couple of ways. One allow the media that is being played show up as an option in the center drivers display just like navigation does, two allow a split screen option like you do when using the car's navigation. Another thing is the system doesn't remember that you were on the media screen the last time the care was turned off and goes to the home screen at next startup. This would be less of an issue if the home screen would show the song information that is currently playing on SiriusXM. So far I have had to push the 12v system reset button once and I am not sure why. At this time I am not getting anything over 30MPG which is concerning as well. I hope once I get to spring time this will improve.

Too early to tell

Nice car. The first 1000 miles: The fuel mileage, not that impressive 28/30. Maybe after it breaks in it’ll improve. Theres a noticeable groan when car switches from gas to electric and vice versa. Not a big deal. Collision avoidance radar works very well but be carefull with it. It’ll overide any accelerator response based on what it detects. It’ll also slow itself down in cruise. Nice feature as long as you adapt to it. Drive modes, snow mode is ok until you get into deep enough snow to where your trying to push through and not get stuck. This is not so impressive. I realize I was pushing the envelope with deep snow. The problem is the AWD will not allow a good accelerator response unless you use wheel lick which overides the AWD allowing all wheels to engage. Fortunately, I was able to unstuck myself with this feature. Its not a truck or trail rated SUV. Its ok in snow but know your limits. I had a 2020 Chevy Blazer that seem to give better/simpler control in this area. Note: Wheels pack with snow to easy giving you a wheel vibration. Theres way to much tech. Some of it I like and I’m adapting to it. Overall its a nice car.

So many things to love

Overall, just a beautiful car. Stylish and well made. The engine is on the small side so it does not have as much HP as I would like, but the MPG of the EV is good. Eco mode gets great gas mileage, but not mush power.

Have under 2000 miles so still very new to us. Love the safety features! Steering doesn't seem stable and we will have it checked out with dealer if doesn't even out with break in. Has good overall features except for the cup holders. Has so many features and accessories included in the initial price. Have enjoyed it so far.
