Tucson 2012

For the most part I have really enjoyed my Tucson. It drives and handles great. And it looks great. I am only dissatisfied with the blind spots. Very hard to see in the rear for changing lanes or turning. This feels unsafe for me. I also wish mine had the rear view camera! I am 73 years of age and I need these safety devices. I just want to feel safe in my car and I probably will not be able to purchase a new one.

I used to love my vehicle

Overall the Tucson is a reliable vehicle- good on gas, the heat and ac work really well, vehicle has bluetooth that works most of the time, heated front seats. The tire pressure light is EXTREMELY sensitive especially in the winter time. I've had to get my tire pressure light fixed 1-2 times a week because the light comes on almost everyday. The brakes on this car also "stick" in wet weather. When I initially purchased the vehicle the brakes were "sticky" and I've since had the brakes replaced and the issue persist. I've spoken to multiple Hyundai service associates about it and after a thorough vehicle check they've all reported there's nothing "wrong" with the brakes they just "stick". This can be frustrating when driving in inclement weather. On a brighter note, the oil changes aren't too expensive and this vehicle doesn't require much maintenance which is helpful.

Two recoils and-not gas reimbursement

In overall, this car has been performed okay. It keeps making new noises and the dealers’ mechanics can’t find it why. When I bought the car, the company promised to do some gas reimbursement as long I owned the car since they made a mistake with their calculation. They only help me for that for a couple years. No buying more cars to this company and not recommending it to anyone either.

Reliable

My Hyundai is a reliable car but last year the paint started peeling on my car. I opened up a case with Hyundai who referred me back to my dealership. I was told that there’s no warranty for peeling paint after a year. Really ! I’ve owned many cars in my life and never ever had a car’s paint begin to peel. I was told that they could refer me somewhere. I’m sure it will be super expensive. No thanks!!

Stiff, Bumpy Ride But Reliable So Far

My 2012 Tucson certainly has been reliable. The AWD has kicked in during road flooding, no major mechanical problems (yet) and I have received compliments on the exterior styling. On the flip side, the ride feels like you're traveling on the inside of an egg-shaker! Way too stiff! Don't buy if you have any spine or neck issues. The exterior paint seems very thin. Even the smallest rock chips the paint right down to the metal. And don't EVEN get a Tucson owner going about the HORRIBLE gas mileage. Guess why they were sued. The MAX I get with "Eco Boost On" is about 23.5 mpg on the Highway. With Eco Boost OFF on I get a paltry, 21mpg on the highway. I have the 2.4 liter but it still feels under-powered. Sometimes I want to push it up hills & on ramps myself. If feels like one could walk faster up the on ramp then get enough "push" from the motor. Still, for an AWD drive vehicle, Limited Edition, the price was right. It looks a little sporty (I have the Ash Black), has been very reliable and gets me where I need to go.

Like almost everything about the car except that it has a drive belt with replacement recommended at 60K. Wouldn't buy another without a drive CHAIN.

My experience

I love my Tucson. I have had no mechanical problems. There could be less road noise. The rear compartment could have better lighting. Gas mileage could be improved.

Hundai Tuscon

I love my car. It handles beautifully around town and on long distances. The one issue I have is that the side mirrors are too big for me. They obstruct my view when I am turning left - a design flaw?? One other issue is the hands free phone system is not user friendly and it has a hard time understanding my British accent.

Dependable

I like my Tucson. It's ride is a little harsh, but overall is fairly comfortable. It's not a speed demon, but has adequate power. I like the options, as well as the fact you can actually get options - unlike the Honda I had where I had to get "trim levels" with little options available. I recently had the vehicle in for repairs (Hyundai stands behind their product unlike Honda) and found myself missing my Tucson. I'd recommend to a friend.

An overall nice car

After driving 3 Santa Fes over 14 years, I purchased a 2012 Tucson and found it to be an excellent running car but was too tight for my 6'2" frame. I just purchased a 2013 Santa Fe Sport and find it to better fit my needs. Once I drove a Hyundai I never drove anything else.

Drives almost anywhere with great gasmileage

I've had my Tucson for 4 years now and still love it to this day. My Tucson and I enjoyed road trips to Colorado, Michigan's UP, Washington, South Dakota, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, and beyond. Throughout all of my travels it continues to perform and has more than adequate storage capacity for any avid camper or outdoor enthusiast. Don't try to take it off-roading and treat this vehicle right, and it will continue to earn your trust. I have the GLS version with a sport package. I've kept up with regular scheduled maintenance and any major repairs. I am currently at 85,000 miles and have only had one major mechanical issue, which was covered by the excellent warranty. I've bought new tires and added an aftermarket roof rack. Overall the car deserves a 4 Star rating, because at the time it was the best value on the market. As of now new tech and features continue to flood the crossover market, and Hyundai needs to continue to be an innovator. Standard safety features like blindspot indicators and a back up sensor are a good start. I wish it had more power, and was able to tow a fair amount of weight. I don't tow as of now, but if I were to get a small trailer I would need a new vehicle.
