Nicely upgraded but missing a few amenities
Our 2018 Tucson is beautiful, inside and out. We also have a 2006 Tucson that is still performing well with 200,000 miles driving. The 2018 was a nice upgrade with panoramic sunroof, heated seats, steering wheel controls (a feature I had in my 1999 Buick), touch screen operation, front devise charging ports, keyless entry, and automatic rear door. However, there are five interior features not included on this model yet are on our 2006.
1. Lacks a cup holder large enough to hold my 32 oz reusable water bottle forcing me to bring two smaller bottles with me. Very inconvenient.
2. A retractable hook on the front passenger side of the center console to hold a small trash bag. We are in the car at all times of the day and travel to visit family locally and out of state. It was great to have a secured trash bag in the car making it easier to consolidate trash until the bag could be emptied.
3. Front seat back pockets are too tight. My daughter couldn't get a greeting card In the pocket without it being damaged.
4. The dashboard is all one level lacking a well or indentation. I have allergies and appreciated the dashboard area where I could put a tissue box for easy access while driving. If I'm alone in the car it's ok. The box can sit on the seat. When I have a passenger, I'm always scrambling to find the tissues.
5. Vehicle manual holder is no longer designed efficiently. The 2006 has a folder where you can easily store an insurance card and other pertinent documents. That folder's "flip open" feature also allows for easy access to the manuals. The current design is awkward and much less functional; almost a throwback to the 70's.
We are also disappointed that there are no electronic charging ports in the back seat. It inconvenient when traveling with our children.
I do miss the features listed above a great deal. However, with all that said we are enjoying the 2018. We only hope it is as reliable as our first Hyundai Tucson.
