Good car, just has some mechanical issues
I bought a manual 2012 Veloster, totally against my principals of never buying first generation anything. I will start with the driving experience itself: I love it! Its fun and I think plenty comfortable. There is some road noise, but pretty normal for a car in this class, but the steering is so tight, which I love and the turning radius is amazing compared to my last car. The problem is, I bought a new car to minimize repairs and unforeseen costs. I have been pretty strict with the maintenance routine and always have the recommended factory maintenance done. The car has still had some issues, however, and weird ones not from regular driving wear and tear. I had to take it to the dealer twice because the temperature gauge told me that the car was overheating, when it was 60 degrees and I had literally driven it across a flat parking lot. The touchscreen display does not work when it is remotely warm out (like above 72 degrees) and although I have reset the clock quite a few times, it speeds up. So if I reset it to the correct time right now in a month it would be 5 mins fast, and in a few months in would be 20 mins fast. There are a few other quirks, none of which make the car undrivable, but it makes me very scared for the kinds of problems that might arise in the future...when the car is NOT under warranty any more. I will say that Hyundai has never given me a hard time about repairs covered by warranty, I have had friends with other brand cars that will make all kinds of excuses to not cover repairs under warranty.
Honestly, I think if I had stuck to my usual MO and waited another year to buy the car, after all of the first model quirks had been worked out it would be an amazing car for the value. Unfortunately, I think I got a bit of a lemon.
