Meh

I really like the exterior design of the car, but otherwise not much stands out about it. It's a great car to go from point A to B, but if you're looking to get a lot of enjoyment out of your driving I'd look for something else. I bought the car used, and the transmission and clutch bearing went out a year later. I've heard that that can be an issue with Hyundai's, but I can only speak from my experience with the car.

Fun car to drive

The veloster is a fun car to dive. But has many , many blind spots. If you decide to get this car do yourself the favor and get one with a rear view camera. So many close calls on this vehicle while backing out or while merging lanes even after looking a couple of times before moving vehicle. Not a lot of HP so if you want more zip get a turbo , you'll need it. Also the radio or Head unit as they call it goes out on this vehicle. I contact the Manufacturer and they told me that they do have issues with touch screen after a couple of years. Hyundai will charge you over $2500 parts and labor to change out. You can buy a salvaged one for about $450 with built in amp or less then $200 for the version that needs the external amp. make sure you check your model before buying. Had issues with the Radio changing stations on its own which was frustrating at times. When everything works as it should it is one of the best entertainment systems in cars.

Veloster Turbo - cheap interior, rattles and shakes

The '13 Veloster Turbo just had its final recall done with the ECU tuning, since many '13 models ended up on the junkyard prematurely (30k-90k) due to detonation prone engine with weak internals. The tuning recall ( of 2019) further reduces the already under performing turbo to avoid engine failure, I believe the numbers are probably down to 170 real-horsepower (unlike the fake 201HP Hyundai claimed, it was always really no more than 185-190) . There is really nothing special about 170hp in 2019-2020, it's actually average now. On normal operating conditions (your engine is performing without falling apart) it has a good low rpm torque but the car kinda falls on its face on higher rpms. Probably due to Hyundai de-tuning the ECU to save themselves from people bringing them back with a blown engine. Onward from 2014 Hyundai corrected the engine failure issue by using stronger engine materials, so just be aware, avoid the 2013 model unless you want you engine fly apart.

Veloster 2013

Good car. Visibility is a concern and mine loses time. I correct the time once a week. I love the sunroof and sound is great! Lacks power when getting on the freeway, its not a turbo. Rear camera is a plus!

fun ride

Love the turbo. Hate the driver's seat. UNCOMFORTABLE. The computer is user friendly The paint job is very good. I would not recommend to a friend unless the driver's seat was redesigned. That's all I have to say

Economical and Sexy

This vehicle is fun to drive is economical. I love it's looks. Visibility is poor the ride is poor. I still love this car had a 2013 and now I have a 2015. Hope they keep improving.

Love my Veloster

I love this car. Overall the best Turbo hatchback on the market for the money. I've driven compact cars for some time now and am very into the custom car scene. The Veloster is a stand alone product for Hyundai. There is no other car that compares to it's styling. If Hyundai wants to be competitve with the other "Hot Hatches" in the segment they need to upgrade the power plant on the Veloster. I've read several articles that compare the hatbacks and the Veloster, due to it's weak powerplant is the only reason it wasn't included with the Focus and Mazda3 and was instead included with the Fiesta, Fit, Mazda2, and Versa. NONE of those cars come remotely close to the Veloster and Hyundai has them smoked on equipment, options and price. Where the Veloster fails is the under powered engine and Hyundai would sell 3 times as many vehicles if they upgrade the engine to the 2.0T like everyone else has on the market....

fun car

I love the look of this car, and the 3-door styling is a nice compromise between my husband's preference for 2-door, and mine for a 4-door. It handles really well, and gets excellent gas mileage on the highway; around town it's not so good. It's small, which I like, but still has pretty good storage space, especially with the rear seats down. It has quick acceleration, and the eco setting helps on gas mileage. Sound system is good, though I'm no expert on that. I did have an issue with the touchscreen nav system and the radio, but, both were taken care of quickly by the dealership. Overall, a good value for the price.

Good vehicle for the price

This would make a great FIRST vehicle. There are nuisances that I do not care for such as seat comfort on longer ride, sluggish reaction time, somewhat high road noise affect interior comfort. Aside from these things it is a great vehicle but probably suited for ages 16-30.

Cute car... Crap speakers!

I bought my Veloster with about 30k on it. So far it's been great. I get a lot of compliments on it and it's fun to drive. It doesn't have much power but it's great on gas... In hindsight I wish I got the turbo. Also the "premium" dimension speakers absolutely suck. I've had the car for 3 months and I've had 4 blown speakers... I never play my music at or even close to full blast. I'm not the only one with this issue, they're just defective and Hyundai refuses to fix them. In general I like the car and would buy it again. The panoramic sunroof is amazing and I love the LED headlights, tech integration, steering wheel controls, and the overall look. It does ride pretty rough with the big wheels as well. Worth it for the price.... Just replace the sound system with something aftermarket!

Love my 2013 Veloster!

Great vehicle, MPG consistently between 30-35. Ample room and headspace for such a small car. 3 door design is innovating and gives backseat passengers more comfort entering and exiting. The full glass roof is amazing. Trunk space with the seats collapsed is more spacious than my previous Cadillac SRX SUV. The sound system is amazing for a stock product, great bass. However the Bluetooth is finicky, I recommend waiting until the Veloster loading screen is completed before putting your car in reverse or drive to avoid your Bluetooth not connecting. My only other complaint is the same with all electric start vehicles and that is when your key battery dies, your up the creek without a paddle. I recommend keeping some 2032s on hand just in case. Also the low profile tires look fantastic but if you live in an area with lots of potholes, it feels like the world ends each time you hit a sizeable one. If your a curb hunter such as myself, a large chunk taken out of your tire from a sidewalk when parallel parking eats about a third to halfway through the tire. Those are only reasons my review is 4 and not 5 stars. Side note: plenty of aftermarket accessories to make your Veloster your own.
