Top Down Motoring In Style
I have liked this car ever since my brother-in-law let me drive his back in 2005. I was looking for a used one to use for a second car to have some top-down fun on the weekends. There are not too many of them for sale (people hang on to them, and for good reason), but I managed to find a one-owner car that was in good condition. After a detail job, switching out the run-flat tires to conventional rubber and having some needed maintenance, I am very pleased. The vehicle's style is timeless, it looks sporty and is both powerful and smooth. It is not a sports sedan, so don't confuse it with a corner carving machine. Nor is it incredibly fast...it will not set your heart on fire. It's mission is a grand luxury V8 tourer. The car is very heavy and feels substantial. Because they stopped making them in 2010, the technology is outdated so you'll have to make do without your beloved backup camera, radar cruise control, cross-traffic alert and all the other goodies that grace modern vehicles today. It was originally called the "Jewel of Lexus" when it first came out and, after driving one, you'll see why. It's ace-in-the-hole is the power hard top which, aside from causing stares when in operation, takes 20 seconds to open & lower. When closed, there is good wind/noise isolation. When open, you can still hold a conversation despite the wind in your hair (but then hey, isn't that what a convertible is all about?). Forget using the rear seats except for packages. Add to all this Lexus reliability and, if you happen to find one in good condition, and understand it's mission in life is to coddle, not excite, you will not be disappointed.
