Will not buy again

Love the AWD and the eyesight feature. However those features have now gotten older/mainstream. What hasn’t changed are the seats and ergonomics - which have been uncomfortable from day one. Too bad I could return the vehicle since I felt the discomfort pretty much from the day I bought the vehicle. Just a fit thing - the pedals are weirdly placed and the seat not supportive enough.

It’s a love hate relationship

I have all the cool features but when there’s a issue everything comes to a master restart. So they disconnecte the battery and touch the terminals together... then as a the owner you have to reset everything... so the back hatch stops working, master reset. The radio has to ask you every time you start it what country your in, master reset. It stops reading my text messages as I drive, master reset and still doesn’t work...the battery is crap.... I even upgraded the radio and it still goes high and low with the volume as you drive. So I will never buy another one.... on to bigger and better things Tesla SUV. Last Subaru I will buy brand new! But the only good thing is it does drive amazing in winter and get great gas mileage... definitely a mom mobile.... I do feel very safe in it...

Subaru exterior

Very desirable design, but car exterior paint is not good quality. The tires, brand name Yokohama, are not well made. 6 months after I purchased Subaru Forester, I replaced one tire, and I repaired another tire. Now 2&1/2 years later the car battery was dead, so had to replace it. I hope that my Subaru does not give me many problems in the future.

Could be happier

Overall I like my Forrester if I could only count on it starting. Maybe the problem has be fixed, time will tell. I am short and it is a vehicle that I can adjust the seat to reach the pedals with ease and see over the steering wheel. However the speedometer is partially hidden from my view by the steering wheel, I can tell if I am going under 35 or over 80 but can not see the speed in between, Not very useful.

Nice driving but mpg is lacking.

I enjoy driving the vehicle and the interior is definitely an upgrade from the earlier models. My biggest complaint is the fuel mileage at highway speeds has been consistently in the low 20's my last tank going skiing was 20.7avg unless you want to drive 55 everywhere when the speed limit is 65-70

overall very good. couple of minor changes would be beneficial IMO

My leased Subaru Forester with 17 k miles on it. Ever since new in comparison to my 2010 Toyota 4 cyl. Highlander , the fan for AC and Heat is unusually load. Engineering flaw ? also, for a 4 cyl. it takes very long to start blowing warm/hot in comp. to my old 2010 Toyota Highlander and my old Camry, 1999....The seats are too firm. The small indicator on control knob for heat control/ floor or bi-level air flow is difficult to see, once again 1999 Camry and 2010 Toyota controls much more user friendly. Car handles well in snow.Glovebox access to cabin filter should have removable panel instead of the difficult push in both sides of plastic sides to remove the glove box door is poor design for elderly or some not that mechanically inclined. Had a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette with easy slide access to the filter . Minor flaws IMO in engineering design.. All an easy fix.Overall a very good safe reliable vehicle, though I only driven for less than 1 year have over 50 yrs driving experience.

Trustworthy Vehicle

Except for what should have been a Recall on the Air-Conditioner, this car had been reliable. I wish that the back quarter panel window was larger, like the previous years' had been. The factory installed Remote Starter is not as good as my previous after market one on my 2014 Subaru. It stupidly cuts off the motor when I get into the car and I have to re-start it. The old one only required that you put your foot on the break before inserting and turning the key to keep right on running. I hope Subaru does not do away with the disc player in the newer models. I really enjoy the one I have now. Beyond these minor gripes it is a responsive ride and has good room inside. I feel safe in this car and that's the main issue.

Reliable SUV

Subaru Forester 2.0L turbo is a great vehicle for all seasons. Engine has performed great for 66000 miles...no oil consumption or other problems. Ride is a bit stiff, but can be improved with good tires...noise is reduced drastically and ride on highway is smoother. Gas mileage is mid to high twenties, but improves on the highway. AC has needed recharging twice since purchase...each time charged, no leaks found

Subaru maintenance

We veered on a different direction with the purchase of this vehicle. Focus was on the safety features as we predicted transport of preschool grandchildren. LOTS of features - lane control, car distance space, speed & mileage indicators. Down-sided from a larger SUV. Lost some trunk storage and weight of vehicle, but OK. Feel safe in vehicle with GREAT mileage. Will hold us for a while!!

Great Subaru Forester

This 2017 Forester is a great little SUV ... I will admit - it is a little noisy on the highway, but it is a very reliable vehicle ... I'm looking forward to getting another Forester sometime in the second half of 2021

Almost perfect but...

I really like this car although the rest of my family thinks it's slight less comfortable then our Toyota RAV4. First week I had it every sensor went off at once, took it to the dealer, who told me 'a lot of them do that the first week'. To which I asked then why don't you check for it before selling it? I haven't had any problems with it since then.

A very good vehicle for North Idaho

I'm overall pretty happy with the Forester with a couple of exceptions. The door lock system is often annoying by not allowing a passenger to open their door, sometimes even when they have a key fob on them! Also I've had to pay for 2 new front bumpers with all the labor etc. to go with it. They are built with weak plastic!! One of the mishaps was when the car was parked and some anonymous person bumped it while they were parking and put a large crack in it!! Needless to say I'm tired of new cars that crumble so easily! I also did not appreciate the fact that in order to put snow tires on new rims you must have these expensive smart valve stems added to the cost if you wish to be prudent and law abiding.

Overall a great car

I actually love our 17' Forester for its safety features and the way it handles. What is weak is the plastic bumpers! We have already had to replace the front bumper twice. They crack if you look at them wrong. They're not cheap and it takes labor and paint to replace them. It looks to me the back bumper is no stronger. Hopefully the new ones are stronger but I have my doubts.

Overall a very good vehicle

Overall a very good vehicle for all members of the family for all conditions. If you drive the Forester with a light foot on the gas, the mileage is better than rated: mid to upper 20's locally and mid to upper 30's on the highway. As mentioned under the cons the CVT transmission does not work well, as there are frequent small hesitations when touching the gas.
