Terrible ride for passengers also RAV4 is not worth buying

I have the 2018 RAV4 Limited AWD. Front and especially the back passengers complained about how hard, uncomfortable the seats are. I even sat in the rear seat, it was as hard as a wooden stool. The front passenger seat is too high up, getting in is difficult because the dash board protrudes near the center in which prevents the left knee/leg to adjust easily. Lack of dome light or any night time lighting for rear passengers. The RAV4 is mostly PLASTIC. Head clearance for anyone above 5 foot 5 inches is terrible unless you happen to be the driver. The OEM tires Toyo Open Country A20 are absolutely cheap and worthless tire. They are bad in rain and worse in snow. Too much bounce or when driving on road that is unevenly graded or surface has ripples, you can notice and feel the RAV4 bouncing or swaying. Engine whine. Underpowered 4 cylinder engine. Wind noise even when windows are closed. Night time driving poor peripheral / side lighting. Toyota should of done more with the headlights for better vision at night. Steering is good but you better know your braking distance. Brakes are par of just functional and not great. Safety Sense does not function well, slow to respond or give warning. RAV4 lacks thrill or frills. It is a boring crossover SUV. The Entune Premium audio w/ Dynamic Navigation (have to pay for Nav service) is nothing special and Voice Recognition is for the birds. The 7 inch Touch Screen is alright but seen and used better ones. It is not worth $32,000 maybe $12,000 and that is for the Limited Edition brand new. Basic Warranty of 3 years is terrible. Best feature of the car is its color Ruby Flare Pearl. okay, Red which is perfect for target practice. Real bad new in ECO Mode you average 6.8mpg. It's a gas hog. If you want any Toyota maybe the CAMRY is there best car. Otherwise get the Honda CR-V. I gave the RAV4 to be used in a Demolition Derby, it was fun watching plastic flying everywhere and wheels just burst. Obviously Toyo tires are like tire tubes or balloons. I had to get rid of it because I did not want anyone to get hurt. The RAV4 is one of the most UnSafe vehicles to drive. The engine and transmission is worth a 3 for reliability. Everything else a Zero or grade of F.

Wanted to love this but HATE the bumpy ride

I 'upgraded' from my beloved Corolla to a 2018 RAV4. I could not be more disappointed. The ride quality is a deal breaker. So much so that I am considering getting rid of it after only a few months. We feel every bump, even those we cannot see. It makes for a terrible experience. Otherwise no complaints, but I truly can't get past the ride quality enough to speak to any other features.

Better than american cars, but not the best japanese

The RAV 4 is cheaply built and collects dust and dirt inside easily, gets dirty on the bottom of the door, the weather stripping tears. There is a reason Consumer reports does not give it the best rating of the compact SUV's. Go with Subaru Forester or even Honda CRV, much better cars at around the same price. The hybrid is clunky and it jerks sometimes going back and forth. It feels like it's going to break if you drive it too 'hard'

2018 RAV4

My vehicle was 3 years old when I bought it, but I am very happy with it. It has bells and whistles that I never knew existed. I particularly like the rear camera and the side mirror indications of someone in the blind spot. These are safety features I think every vehicle should have. I expect this vehicle to outlast me since Toyota's are known for obtaining very high mileage.

Car is nothing special.

Our RAV4 had a serious issue early on which was investigated by an “impartial” engineer paid by Toyota. I personally know 2 others with the same dangerous condition also investigated by “independent” engineer. Now at 4 years old & past warranty the transmission is failing and will need to be replaced. $8,650 new transmission - it cannot be repaired.

Smooth and gorgeous ride on my new RAV4 XLE.

It doesn't beat Honda CRV Limited but for dependability, life and performance is really good, I like the color, and its performance. It is RAV 4 XLE. I thought it comes with navigation too.

Good vehicle

I very much enjoy my RAV4. The vehicle handles wonderfully, in all weather. Right after I purchased the vehicle I had to make a long trip, and the RAV4 was very comfortable for driving. It's a great size vehicle for my needs. I am very pleased with my selection.

Nnew 2018 RAV4

Good: Toyota brand should be dependable. Pretty smooth acceleration. Fairly quiet. Intuitive screen interface. Good safety features. Locking differential is nice. Toyota care, plus local York dealer extras (car wash etc). Very knowledgeable and helpful salesmen (particularly Ed), and good service, and good discount at local dealership. Bad: Transmission not as smooth as a CVT, and CVT supposedly has less parts so less future problems, and CVT supposedly simpler which is less expensive to build so more profitable for Toyota and cheaper for customers, and CVT has better gas mileage (mileage is worse than Forester and automatic shifting not as smooth as a 2005 Mercedes C300) (mileage can improve and could be a little peppier but does not need to be under 8 seconds zero-to-sixty). Could be a touch quieter. Can't move headrest back about half inch. No lumbar. Daily unbuckling seat belt slaps hard plastic beside door. Daily exiting and closing door feel 'sharp' edge along window frame. MSRP $1.2k more versus same equiped Forester. Interior versus say Mazda cx-5 not as nice; Mazda shorter overall yet longer wheelbase (smoother highway but bigger turning circle). Certain times on a sunny day the screens on dash create big blinding glare. Profile to Ford Escape very similar but RAV4 dimensions seem a little off - length versus width; RAV4 side profile seems a big 'slab'. Android and Apple phone is needed. Visibility at rear quarter panels is compromised by the upswept rear quarter panel which everyone does = unsafe and too common. Not quite as soft a ride as expect from Toyota; longer wheelbase might make better ride. Subaru had three surveys about car and dealership and overall; Toyota had none until now 6 months later. Subaru sends regular emails on car status, health etc (& also advertise) versus Toyota has Toyota care - guess it's a cost benefit decision per company; both are nice but not sure how long Subaru emails will be versus Toyota Care is 2 years.

2018 Toyota RAV4 SE Purchase

Like previous model years the new 2018 RAV4 has a lot to appreciate in comfort, style and safety however the new dimmable rear view mirror cannot be adjusted while transmission is in drive and must be done while in park before driving. I find that occasionally I want to adjust the rear view mirror after adjusting my seat or how I am sitting it to avoid fatigue but the mirror cannot be adjusted manually while the transmission is in drive. Also, for a couple days an iHeart Radio Appication error pop-up covered the display screen then eventually stopped showing up but I don’t know why. Is there a way to “reboot” the radio like a computer when Applications are updated or any other time it may help radio performance?

Great SUV

The 2018 RAV SUV hybrid is a great choice for people wanting a small SUV with Toyota reliability. We purchased the fully loaded one which included the Navigation and Birdseye view features. The vehicle is fairly quiet, great gas mileage and full of safety features. It seats 4 comfortably and 5 in a pinch. Our only minor complaint is that it does not have a digital speedometer. We own a Toyota FJ that I love but if given a choice not involving off road I will steal my wife’s RAV 4 each time

LIGHTS IN THE SNOW

I had a huge problem last winter (January). I have driven in snow for over 20 years (1991 Toyota Celica) so I am not new at it. My brand new RAV SE on a dark road in heavy snowfall and no street lights was absolutely frightening (HWY 54 ATHOL ID). The headlights so illuminated the snow I could not see beyond the heavy flakes and had to TURN OFF MY HEADLIGHTS to drive in the dark!!!! It was the only way to see. I kept watch for cars coming up behind but could not even see the shoulder w/o sticking my head out the window in heavy snowfall. This is a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. There are thousands of us that live in remote areas, we are not only driving thru winter conditions but also watching for wildlife. PLEASE TOYOTA look into this. The headlights produce a huge glare with snowfall on dark roads. This safety issue will affect my next lease/purchase with you.

First 5k miles, Solid but not stellar

The fuel economy is very good - 33 MPG in my first 5k miles mixed city/highway driving, generally hilly area. I leave it in economy as much as I can. If I drove less frequently on the highway (at ~70mph), fuel economy would probably be closer to 35-36. Instruments are laid out well. The dual climate control saves wrangling the controls with my spouse. The visors have a nifty extension that lets you move them into the sun. They did a nice job with lots of 12V outlets - two in front, one for the rear passengers, and one in the cargo area. Pop a 12V to high-output USB and everyone can have power. I like having more clearance, something especially useful recently in Seattle Snowpocalypse 2019. However, because it's higher up, it seems to slide more than, say, my Subaru. Adaptive cruise control is pretty sweet. It does tend to brake aggressively if you're following someone exiting off a freeway. Drawbacks: The backup camera lens easily gets dirty in inclement weather. On the hybrid, the rear seat doesn't fold back all the way down because the battery is underneath. I can barely fit one bike in the back. Entune is disappointing - about five years behind the other systems. Some functions are confounding (e.g., you can define waypoints, but then not use them in traffic estimates). Some of the settings only work when the vehicle is stopped, meaning my passenger can't help me out. Shortly after I purchased, they removed Pandora and Facebook places (um, thanks?). What I really want is CarPlay so I can use Google Maps or Spotify on the big screen. Unfortunately, there's no upgrade path.

The Future Belongs to Hybrids and Electrics

After driving my hybrid Rav4 for six months now, I am very pleased with it's overall performance. Not only is the hybrid the quickest Rav4, but also the most economical. Before winter set in and I put snow tires on, I had gotten 36.5 mpg in mixed driving. I have no doubt I'll be close to 40 mpg or more when the warm weather returns. I also found the electric rear drive performed fine when driving in the snow. It's relatively spacious, comfortable, and surprisingly fun to drive. At the six month mark I haven't had any issues with the vehicle so it is upholding Toyota's reputation as having bulletproof reliability. The only criticism I have is, it could be quieter as far as road noise. I seem to be especially sensitive to road rumble and depending on the road surface, it can get a little loud. I have concluded that my primary vehicle will be a hybrid or electric from now on.

Comfortable but gas mileage not as expected

I really like my Rav4 but the gas Mileage is not what I expected, I drive a lot of highway & some in town driving & get typically 21 mpg. I think it should be better. Also the place where the sun glass storage is between the sun visors needs to be padded because when I store my glasses they continuously rattle driving me nuts! Other than those 2 things my Rav is great

Great All Around

I've had my Rav4 for a little over a year. I have experienced it in all 4 seasons. I mostly love it. It rides smooth, quiet, has great get up and go, it has excellent fuel economy, very comfortable, and drives well in the rain and snow. If there was one thing I could change about it, it would be climate control in the back seat for the kids. My model doesnt have any air conditioning or heating in the back seat. It also does not have a USB port for the back. If I could change one other thing, it would be an easier address search option for the navigation system. It would also be nice to be able to set audio/navigation options while the car is in motion. I understand it is a safety feature but when your passenger has the ability to enter in data, they should be able to without having to stop the car. All in all, these are little things in the grand scheme of things. I love my Rav!

Overall Enjoyable Ownership Experience

I am closing in on one year of ownership of my hybrid Rav4 and still love it. The mileage has been no worse than 26 and highest at 37 so far. If I avoid rocketing around too much I usually get higher numbers. The additional thrust from the electric motors is very addicting. It has electric all wheel drive and with winter tires I never had any worries of getting stuck last winter. The only reason for four stars is the need for more refinement. The body structure seems to flex more over bumps than my past Subaru's and the suspension makes banging noises on some bumps and potholes. Also, the cabin could be quieter. I have tinnitus that is at the same frequency as most road noise so I'm very sensitive to it. Even very otherwise quiet vehicles sound loud to me. The only glaring ergonomic flaw that bugs me is the angle of the display for the HVAC controls. At certain times of the day, it reflects the sun directly into the driver's eyes. I enjoy the comfortable roomy interior, satisfying acceleration, great gas mileage, and good deal I got on it at Parker Toyota. I would recommend it to anyone. I understand a number of the items I disliked on this version of the Rav4 have been dealt with on the redesigned 2019 model. I believe the future of vehicles belongs to hybrids and electrics. I'm ready...

Practical and sensible

I purchased a 2018 Rav 4 AWD XLE in November 2018 and could not be happier. I got an excellent deal on this 2018 model due to the new 2019 redesign. I’m getting 25 mpg in mixed driving on ECO mode The AWD has been more than adequate in the 6 to 8 inches of snow that we’ve had. It’s plenty roomy for 4 people and our two adult sons had no complaints sitting in the back on our vacation which was a 6 hour drive. It has been problem free for the 11 months that I’ve owned it. I’m happy with the bells and whistles that came on the XLE pkg. I felt that a purchase price of $25087.00 was a great value considering the expense of new cars these days The safety features are also very nice.

Very reliable car and has comfortable features....... Not sure if the car has smaller gas tank but it seems to consumes more gas than the V-6 vehicle.......Overall, we love it so far and I would recommend it to other buyers.
