superb versatility

The 2018 Golf R is fast, surprisingly comfortable, versatile (carries a lot), and gets fine mileage. I have taken on track and auto crossed it and it has been a no fuss performance car. It is seriously fast. Winter performance is another strength. With proper tires it makes snow a non event, turn-in is excellent. I only traded in my 2015 R because of the longer warranty on this car. It is better than the 2015 was, partly due to the new transmission. VW is building great Golf GTI's and R's. This is a great driver's car.e

Great car

Nice and zippy. Handles great. Decent mileage for the performance you get, though it's not the main reason to buy this car, it's always a nice plus. Rides very comfortably for a car like this, DCC is amazing. Two complaints: first is the front assist system's autonomous braking. It has false positives. It once slammed on the brakes going on the freeway with nothing in front of the car, when passing by a semi truck. Apparently a known issue with these cars according to other owners. My foot was on the gas and it didn't override the braking at all. Totally unpredictable and dangerous for the car behind me, thankfully they were far away. Wish there was a way to disable the braking feature while leaving on the sound front assist warning for actual situations, that way the driver is always in control. One would like to think that a sports car owner would know best on how to control their own car. Second issue: the door stop. There is no middle stop, and it's way too easy to swing the door open wide after cracking it open. A car at this price range ought to have better door stops. Need to be extra careful on windy days when opening the door.
