2009 Mini Cooper S (S=Turbo)
Hands down, from all the people that have owned MiniCoopers from friends & colleagues at work, local community friends, we all have the same complaint!!!
that even though these MiniCooperS are absolutely fun to drive we all agree, but they break down too much & the Dealer hourly rate of course is insane , but it’s even higher for Mini Cooper because somehow the BMW and Mini Cooper dealers put the Mini Cooper in the class of quality BMW price range, what a joke, absolute smoking mirrors, actually rip off, we are all convinced either just an economy, economical cars from Europe. I’m not very well-made. Too many issues. I’ll never own another one, and everyone I know will also never own another one!
unless you’re repairing it yourself, it’s not worth it !!
And the dealers chose to price the Mini Cooper like their gold plated, lol, nope, IMHO, just average to low quality engine, I refer to mine as Junk every time it breaks down, which is often, MiniCooperS are a love-hate relationship!!
Cool Little Turbo machines, but absolutely not worth it!!!
Thankfully, on a dealer recall , the dealer replaced circuit board under driver kick panel, and replaced circuit board under passenger kick panel, replaced sunroof seal, because the problem with Mini Cooper is the sunroof water runs down both sides inside the car soak the carpet often and Rust and corrodes these two circuit boards under both kick panels , and ruins the carpet ,so Mini Cooper thankfully Cover all that!!
Repairs quick summary
2009 Mini Cooper S hatch back, 6 speed manual
Replaced the clutch, replaced all four struts, somehow brake fluid disappears, and you lose your brakes every year or two.
Replaced the serpentine belt four times because it keeps flying off & and two times destroyed the tensioner, constant oil leaks, engine gets weak every time, chasing little issues and VVT valve, and bunch of nickel and dime stuff
