Scheduled maintenance

This car was just in for maintenance, but they tried to sell me tires, brakes and filters I didn't need, and gave me an oil change I didn't need, plus wanted $140 for power steering fluid. I've been taking my cars there more than 20 years, but now they want $1,000-$1,600 every time I go there. I won't be going back.

I must say Tom, I was quite surprised at your comments concerning the repairs to your car. You mention that you have been bringing your cars here for over 20 years and I have to assume that you have always been satisfied with the service that you have received. You continue to add that the car "was just in for routine maintenance" I don't know if you mean at our shop or another shop because the last time that we say this car in our shop was 2/24/12, that is over a year a go? I would not consider that just in for maintenance?, and when the car was here we were addressing a check engine light issue that was related to a cat converter malfunction. Prior to that 10/20/11 for some front brakes. In our initial conversation on the phone you mentioned to me that the only reason you brought the car in is because you got a service reminder from our business saying that the vehicle was due for some routine maintenance. Well that would appear to be right because we were able to identify some needed repairs. Hence the term preventive maintenance. Your slanderous remarks are truly without merit. There is an audible noise that was noted by the technician upon performing a test drive that was attributed to a possible wheel bearing or tire condition. Further inspection revealed the rear tires were abnormally worn. This is not a normal wear condition. Several of the cars vital fluids are in need of service and the LF ball joint has excessive movement and in my professional opinion is unsafe. The rear brakes are just about worn out and although you may be able to drive a little while longer before you start grinding the brake pad backing plates into the brake rotors, we here tend to be more proactive instead of reactive. There is not a single service that was recommended on you car that is not needed. Although some more urgent then others , still needed. I am sorry that you do not see the value in our experience and what we have to offer you in helping you to maintain a safe operating car for you and your family and providing you with information that will help keep your car out of the repair shop and on the road.
