Good customer service is long gone
Two stars are generous. My Fiat was in the service department for a week the FIRST time. I get my car back thinking it's fixed and after only 1.5 days, it breaks down again. The same issue. The gear is stuck in the park position but is actually in reverse and if you release the brake it goes backward. My car ended up in the middle of our street in front of our house. We had to have it towed by AAA to the dealership's service department at 10 PM. A week goes by and my car is fixed and ready to pick up. The invoice is $1,100. As the only breadwinner, that is a lot of money. I have the Fiat back for only one full day and it breaks down again. Same issue. The car is stuck in the park position, but it is actually in reverse and will only go backward. I call the service department at the dealership and ask for help. I am told that if they use their towing company (Lakewood Towing) I could get stuck with the tow bill. I decide to use my AAA membership again. An AAA tow truck driver shows up and he asks me to pop the hood. Thank God for Andy from Bethel Towing! He pushes the linkage back into place and the car starts up and is drivable. He tells me to take it straight back to the dealership's service department where it had been worked on. He says he sees this a lot. Andy saved me a tow. I immediately get into my car and drive it back to the dealership's service department. When I arrive, not only does the advisor show ZERO empathy or sympathy, but begins to go on a rant and rattles off all of these different things it could be "because the mechanic already checked the linkage and it was fine. So it cannot be that". It felt like he was attempting to change the narrative and prepare for more $$$ to be paid out. I was so annoyed! First of all, the advisor is not a mechanic. Secondly, show some compassion. I missed a meeting for work. Third, I have already Googled myself. I don't want to hear any of this! So I ask him to please stop talking. I say "as a customer, I do not want to hear any of his what ifs or narratives/stories". What I want to hear is "I am sorry for the inconvenience and we will get this fixed so that you are safe out on the road again". Instead, he responds by telling me "This is what I (he) am thinking in my (his) head". My car sits there for three days with no follow-up from anyone. I had to call them late Friday afternoon to inquire about the status of my car. I am told that they hope to have some news to me by the following Tuesday. Tuesday rolled around and I received a VM that it would be another $600+ to replace the linkage and that it would be one week until the part arrives. FYI: the first time the gear shift component was replaced, not the linkage. Another week rolled by and I received another call from the advisor that the part did not arrive. He tells me they are going to overnight it. The next day I got another VM from the same advisor that the part did not arrive and that the part would not arrive until the following Monday. My car has now been at the car dealership for close to two weeks. Three weeks if you are counting the first time it was there. As a courtesy, they reduce the second invoice by about $200 to make it a little over $400 instead of $600+. As of this afternoon, my car has been fixed and I have picked it up. The same advisor did not apologize. Too bad there are no other Fiat service departments nearby. This whole experience has been a nightmare. In the middle of this whole debacle I did reach out to the service manager and share all of this with her.
