Extended Warranty
I have an AM failure in my radio, which is covered under a VOLVO Extended Warranty.
Peter's recommended I have a diagnostic done to determine the cause, but was also told I would be responsible for the $60 charge if Volvo didn't cover it, because the technician (Tom) needed to be paid for his time. My question was: Since I was told this may or may not be required by Volvo, and ... I felt since I had paid for this warranty and the radio AM did not work, it wasn't my responsibility to diagnose the problem. I felt it was Volvos. So, I told Peter's not to do the diagnostic until they talked with Volvo. Then I was told after my other routine service was completed that they probably wouldn't have charged me anyway for the diagnostic. If that was the case, why wasn't I told this to begin with? As it unfolded, only a Volvo DEALER is allowed to work on a Volvo Extended Warranty. I'm also concerned that Tom is the only mechanic they have now. He does all the cars. He is great and has been working on my cars for years, but a shop as busy as this would seem to require at least one other mechanic. This would appear to put a lot of pressure on Tom. But, it's not my place to tell Peter's how to run their business. Lastly, there sometimes is a discrepancy in what service Peter's recommends and what the Volvo Factory recommends. I have no problem in having the work done that is required or recommended, but I like to go by the factory recommendations unless a case can be made otherwise. I do appreciate Peter's being attentive to my service needs since I live in Eugene and have the work done at Peter's around business trips to Portland.

Peter's Auto Works tries hard to help every customer maintain and repair their vehicles as best we can.  We work hard to help customers with their mechanical breakdown insurance/paid warranties.  Since there are thousands of different policies and companies, we do not expect to be experts on every policy available to customers.  We just want to help the customer navigate the claims process and hope they have a good result.  Most of the time customer's expectation of what they purchased and the reality of what is covered and how it is covered do not always leave the customer feeling a sense of satisfaction.

Peter's Auto Works maintains a work crew that has the ability to service our customer's needs.  We have enough technicians and customer service staff to meet this challenge.  We feel it is important to provide our customers with the best service possible while employing the right balance of personnel so that all of our employees can earn a living wage income.  Like all retail businesses we have very busy days and not so busy days.

Peter's Auto Works prides itself on being honest and straight forward with customer recommendations.  These recommendations are based on factory maintenance schdules and 23 years of substantial and informed experience servicing vehicles.  Sometimes our recommendations are more frequent and extensive than the facotry service intervals.  These recommendations are based on observations made during our inspection and pattern failures we have seen with other vehicles.  Our goal is to help the cutomer achieve as many care free driving miles as possible with as few (or no) breakdowns as possible.  We want customers to be able to make an educated and informed decision on how they maintain their vehicles.

With all communication of this nature, the full context of what is and isn't said and the intention or motivation of all parties are never completely communicated.  We work hard to help all customers to the best of our abilities.  We hope if customers have concerns (that we are in control of) or questions they feel comfortable with letting us know directly.  We will do our best to resolve any concerns they may have, hopefully to their satisfaction.
