Our vehicle was brought in because of a grinding sound being produced by the brakes. The sound was so terrible that I feared for the safety of my wife and kids.
The problem was determined to be faulty calipers, rotors, and brake pads and we were quoted the following:
725.00 for front pads, rotors, and calipers
325.00 for rear pads. (Isn’t this quite high?)
and your typical preventative maintenance such as a coolant flush, new battery, tires, etc.
I’m no mechanic, but I felt this to be an exaggeration of the issue experienced and decided to have the vehicle checked out by another mechanic that came highly recommended by several of my coworkers.
Before we were able to pick up the car to take it for a second opinion, we were advised that we owed 130.00 for a diagnostic fee. This was not explained to us whenever we dropped the vehicle off, however we were told that there is a sign in the office and it is assumed that all customers read that and understand. I explained that it is unprofessional to assume that customers will read a sign and that this should be explained to new customers. Considering that we brought our vehicle in for the brakes however all the other issues were looked at and reported I felt that we shouldn’t owe money for labor that wasn’t requested. Tabitha graciously knocked 30.00 off of the diagnostic fee and we settled at 100.00.
I then took the vehicle to a smaller shop owned by a career mechanic. His findings were slightly different.
Calipers were in satisfactory operating condition.
Front brake pads and rotors were changed.
Rear brake pads only showed 20% wear.
He recommended changing the two front tires.
All in all, I paid a FRACTION (literally 1/4) of what was originally diagnosed and quoted. More importantly, the work performed was all the work that was needed...nothing more and nothing less.
It’s refreshing to find someone that is honest and not just chasing the almighty dollar at the consumer’s expense.
I truly hope every one else has a better experience than my wife and I did. I only spoke with Tabitha and she listened and addressed my concerns, despite us having a difference of opinion. Never once was she rude or impatient, so I can say at least an attempt was made to rectify the problem, but I can’t speak with certainty regarding the level of expertise and training of their techs or mechanics.
