Mrs sadler came in to us for a diagnose check engine light, which turned out to be a misfire code. Due to condition of ignition coils and plugs checked on the cylinder that was misfiring we recommended replacing all the plugs and any other questionable  ignition coils and then retest. Mrs sadler agreed and we preformed the repair, unfortunately the van still had a misfire after doing the work, so we then decided to do a compression check and make sure there wasn't a mechanical issue. That's when we found that cylinder number 1 had low compression, upon further inspection we where able to determine that that cylinder had 85% leakage, which means that cylinder isn't holding pressure. The good range for cylinder leakage is 5% - 15%. We then told Mrs sadler that due to a common issue on this particular engine that they get excessive carbon build up on the valves making then unable to seal properly so we could try doing a top end injection cleaning which might work or we can pull the engine apart and fix it the right way. Due to Mrs sadler's financial state she opted to try the cheaper route and hope for the best. After Doing the top end injection cleaning the van ran better by still had a misfire on the cylinder number one. We then preformed a compression check on the number one cylinder to confirm there's still a issue and it indeed still had low compression. We went over all the notes and tech recommendation again and told her unfortunately we belive it's going to have to have the cylinder heads removed and valves either removed and cleaned or replaced. These situations do suck not just for the customer but for the shop as well, all we want is to get people back into there vehicles driving again and for them to be happy enough with the service we provided that they will tell there friends about us and to think of us when they or a friend needs help with there vehicle.
