Yo-Yo Loans and Spot Delivery Scams
Beware from Yo-Yo Loans & Spot Delivery Ploys!!!

Please don’t make the same mistake my family and I made. Do NOT walk out of here without a loan approval, not a pre approval. They will try to scam you by doing the whole yo-yo loan, and spot delivery scheme. Then when you try to defend yourself, they try to talk you down and belittle you.

Two weeks after buying our car, on a Saturday night, our salesman, Big Mac, called us. He told my husband that there’s an issue with a missing document and we needed to come in to resign the contract. He told us to come in on Sunday, when usually dealers are closed. My husband said he couldn’t, as he’s super busy with work.

A couple days later, my husband called the dealer to get more information, and try to make our first payment. He spoke with George in the financial department, who lied and said that he “thought” he called us (which he didn’t). He further informed my husband that the contract needs to be resigned due to the loan approval not going through. He told us we need to come in and sign a new contract with higher interest rates. They tried to play it off that it’s all they could achieve with my husband’s credit, and it’s not “that big of a change.” He said it’s not the car dealers fault our credit is what it is. That they knew if they didn’t let us take the car with the original interest rates in the contract, they would’ve lost our sale.

When we said we wouldn’t be altering the original contract, they told us to return the car today. It was 6pm already and we have 3 young kids. George proceeded to look up our address to try and send someone to pick it up. My husband told them he can bring it back after tomorrow. At this point, I don’t even want the car anymore due to the negative experience thus far.

We put down a large down payment (15K), and spent manyyy hours closing the original deal with them. We were told we were approved for the payment and interest rate we could afford and agreed upon. My husband even went in the following day after buying the car to finalize the rest of the paperwork and down payment. Not ONCE was the possibility of this just being a pre-approval mentioned before signing the papers and driving away. Had that been the case, we wouldn’t have left the lot. From what I’ve been informed, that’s illegal on their part. They were supposed to clearly state to us it is a “Spot Delivery”.

In addition to this nasty ploy, while on the phone, George started to intentionally pronounce my husband’s name wrong, and talk to him with a nonchalant attitude. It is funny (and disgusting) how they were nice and accommodating when they were trying to close the deal; they could pronounce his name correctly then.

At the end of the conversation, George told my husband he would call back shortly with more information on a solution, and he never did. My husband called back only to be answered by a voicemail. This is ridiculous.

Thankfully this isn’t our first car purchase, so we know not all dealerships try to take advantage of people. This isn’t how you run a business, and I will make sure others know this before making our mistake.

Luckily, I have found a consumer attorney and will be filing a claim with the FTC.
