Horrible place
This place is absolutely horrible!! Please take a look at Christine’s post just 9 days ago!! I’m going to keep this as brief as possible. March 17th is a day that will haunt me forever and I will make sure they are reminded every year as well!! My husband took our 5 year old Doberman to the ER in Naperville as our vet doesn’t offer ER services. When my husband arrived rightly around 8:15 there was 1 non certified vet assistant I won’t use her name just yet and Dr. Klingsporn. He examined her and did xrays. He told my husband he suspected an obstruction and that he wanted to consult with a radiologist to make sure. He left my husband to supposedly do that for a second opinion. Well he never did consult with a radiologist but you better believe we were billed for it. They hooked her up to an IV and gave her cerenia, ampicillin, and famotidine. Absolutely nothing for pain whatsoever!!!! They didn’t do any repeat xrays, monitoring of vitals until she went “unresponsive” which was approx 6.5 hours later. I say unresponsive in quotes because Dr. Klingsporn told me that she became depressed not unresponsive which was stated in her records. I have talked to some other vets to get their opinions and one question I asked is Does unresponsive mean the same thing as depressed? We all know the answer to that! When we got the nightmare call around 3 a.m Dr. Klingsporn said her glucose levels dropped and she took a turn for the worse. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I dropped the phone and rushed over there. When I arrived the vet assistant opened the door, wouldn’t even look me in the face a said “sorry for your loss the dr will be in shortly”. That shortly was roughly 16-17 min. Now I know he was covering up his mistakes. When he finally came to me he was very fidgety so I said I don’t understand what the heck happened. His response was “I I I I don’t know, 20 mins prior ME AND THE VET tech (assistant) had her outside walking around”. I stopped him and said I just want to see her. He wheeled her in and as I went to wrap my arms around her she was already stiff and cold. I just sat there by myself sobbing hoping this was a nightmare. I asked him to come in and for 32 min his stories were all over the place. I asked multiple times if the obstruction killed her? He said no in fact he said he has done 100s of these and 80% of the time dogs that are my dogs size usually pass them and the ones that don’t NEVER GET THIS SICK!! Ummmmm ok. He said he recovered a small black footie sock so he was sure that’s not what killed her. I know now he was persistent on saying that’s not what killed her because he did absolutely nothing for her but watched her die a painful slow death. I asked why no repeat xrays before 2:47 am and he said that wouldn’t have showed him anything. I asked him 2 times if she was in pain and he was quick both times to say no!! Obstructions are extremely painful. He said once cerenia was given she didn’t vomit or drool anymore. What’s crazy is the vet assistant stated otherwise in the medical records. She documented 2 different times drool. He gave me 5 causes of death which included blood clot, stroke, DCM, intucesseption, and Blasto. I asked him multiple times about a necropsy. One of the times he said “they rarely find the cause of death and if that is going to give you closure I don’t want you to get your hopes up that you
will get the answers”. I asked him to keep her cool for a few hours while I made phone calls to the U of I. I left
there at approx 5:15 a.m. At approx 6:15 am Dr. Klingsporn calls me and said he spoke to one of the owners Dr. Tom and they said they could do the necropsy for me!! Ummmm really because you pretty much told me they were a waste of time not to mention you really were clear that gross necropsy doesn’t give much info vs a full one done by the university. I got back in my car and sped back to the clinic. As I pulled in he called again and I kicked it to VM. He definitely wasn’t expecting to see me that is for sure. He asked me if I decided if I wanted them to do the necropsy I said no I’m here to take her body to the U of I. He asked if he should contact them and send them the records and I said nope you need to send them to me. My husband had to call 3 times to get the records so I could provide them to the u of I. Ironically they didn’t include the whiteboards when they sent them to us. I also discovered we were billed for 4 injections but only could see 3 on the records. The response was “clerical error” even though Dr. k signed off that the vet assistant gave it. That’s another thing we found as well which will be included in my update later. Here’s the other baffling part....HE DID ABSOLUTELY NO BLOOD WORK AT ALL but yet told me her glucose levels dropped!! The sickest part is surgery was performed WITHOUT ANESTHESIA OR PAIN MEDS!!!
