Small repair turned into major issue
Travis replaced a tensioner belt on my car (a $200 install) and failed to tighten a cable that sends power to the generator that resulted in a melted generator harness. I am now looking at $4,600 in repairs for the damage caused. He is not taking any responsibility. Needless to say I would never let him touch a vehicle of mine again.
Your Team at W. from Westwerk German Auto responded on 07/26/2026 10:46 PM

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for sharing this, and I'm sorry for the trouble with your Audi. I want to fill in some context.

Your father brought the car to us after already attempting the belt/tensioner install himself using a T27 Torx bit (a T30 was needed), an undersized bit that commonly strips bolt heads. That likely caused the mounting point to seat improperly, and the resulting vibration or micro-movement could have gradually worked the electrical connection loose. We took the job on as a one-time courtesy for a longtime customer whose friend, your father, needed help finishing what he'd started. He'd also mentioned the parts came from the Audi dealer, though we later understood they may have been ordered online, so we can't vouch for their authenticity. For this reason, we do not allow customers to bring in their own parts. We also informed your father before the repair that there is no warranty for the parts he supplied since we did not provide the parts.

When we heard about the $4,600 in wiring harness damage, we offered twice to tow your vehicle back at our expense and, if we found the damage was due to our installation, repair it ourselves in-house using genuine Audi parts. Both offers were declined, so we haven't had the chance to inspect it ourselves.

I thought we left our call in a good place, and that offer still stands, please call me directly if you'd like to talk further.

Best,

Travis
