The Nightmare Continues
My car was diagnosed with a failing engine (the dreaded Elantra Piston Slap). I had to push hard to get them to put together a repair plan for me (many phone calls). Then I had to push to get any of the repair covered by Hyundai. Then I had to push again to get a rental covered. Ultimately, after MANY phone calls, I was promised that I would pay $1,200 for the engine rebuild (20%) and that all of the rental would be covered. The repair took about 2 months and after I was already in a loaner car, with my car in for repairs, I was told I had to return the loaner car and go into an Enterprise rental. Then, while at Enterprise, I was informed that I would have to pay for the Enterprise car and then be reimbursed afterwards. I felt stuck at that point and like I didn't have other options, but I was also blindsided by this new (although temporary expense. I was in the Enterprise car for nearly a month and my credit card was charged immediately after I returned it and finally got my own repaired car back. I was charged nearly $1,300 for the repairs (instead of the quoted $1,200) and told I would have to wait for reimbursement on the rental car, which cost me nearly $800 . I have called repeatedly and been given a new story every time and still have yet to be paid back for the rental! I got out of the rental and got my car back in July and it's now October and I still have not been reimbursed for the rental.

I have taken good car of my car with regular oil changes. The engine failed at just 59,000 miles. I feel that I should never have been expected to have to pay out on such a massive manufacturing defect as this engine failure, much less be given false promises and be put through the ringer over and over again to try to get a functioning car. Every time I call it's a whole new excuse and another promise that things will be taken care of. This is starting to feel truly fraudulent! I told them at the very start that I could not afford to pay out thousands of dollars on repairs and rentals and I was promised multiple times that they would figure something out. I feel coerced into paying more than I could afford or was told it would cost and I see no hope of getting resolution. At this point, even if I get reimbursed for the rental itself, that won't cover the credit card interest fees and all the hours of time, stress and hardship this has caused me.

Jeanne, Based on an email you sent earlier today, I have already started the process of untangling the releif you've been seeking and as described in your comments.  It would be helpful in you could contact Hyundai Customer Service directly (800-523-4030) as I send a copy of our communictions to our Hyundai Fixed Operations Manager (DFOM) in an effort to seek his assistance.  When you call customers service, if you haven't already done so, they will provide you a "case number".  If you have a case number or get one after calling, can you provide that number to me via email so I can communicate directly with Hyundai Customer Service on your behalf?  I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you've experienced.  As you know, based on my return email to you earrlier today, I've asked Jennifer McAllister to help me and Hyundai Customer service by bringing you up to date on the status of the issues you've referenced in your survey.  Unbfortunately, Erika German is no longer a member of the customer service staff.  I want to thank you for providing Jennifer, me and our Hyundai DFOM to address your concerns to your ultimate satisfaction.  Rick

Hi Jeanne, I'm happy to announce good news: HMA has authorized a $760 reimbursement of the of the $776.71 you paid for your rental car from Enterprise.  When I process payment on or about the 10th of November, I'll include a coupon for a complimentary oil change.  I want to thank you again for your patience and look forward to seeing you when your Hyundai needs it's next oil change.  If you have any questions please let me know.  Rick
