I loved my 2013 Jetta Sportwagon TDI. It is black with a lime green roof; you have probably seen me limping around Mt. P. Why does my car limp? On March 10, 2021, I brought it to Hudson’s. I walked into the reception area and told the man behind the counter, who I believe to be the owner: “I am 99% sure that I need my clutch slave cylinder replaced.”
He had to control the conversation and without letting me continue he guaranteed me, with all of his expertise and not even having looked at my car, that he was sure it was the clutch master cylinder. I tried to tell him that it had already been replaced, which is how I was mostly certain that it was not that, but he did not listen to m. As he is the expert I told him to look it over and let me know what he found. He replaced the master cylinder and found it did not solve the problem. He then found that the slave cylinder needed replacing, which he did and only charged me the originally quoted price.
It was very nice that they charged me about half of what it would have costed. But I would have been happier if they had fixed it correctly. In December 2022 the clutch slave cylinder failed again. Now my whole family has been driving standard transmission vehicles my whole life, I have been driving exclusively standard transmission vehicles since I got my driver’s permit at 16 in 1990. In all of that time I have never seen a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder fail, much less two in a year and a half. I thought about bringing the car back and demanding they do the repair correctly, but had no faith they would do correctly for free what they could not do when I was a paying customer the first time.
Hudson’s asked in March, 2021 if I would review their business. My instincts were to wait and see if the repair held. I am so glad I did. For over a year now I have been wrestling with trying to find a mechanic with a lift who will let me help in the very complex process of making this repair. Such mechanics are impossible to find and now I just want to sell the car. But I cannot even get what it is worth because the clutch doesn't work. (Also, I had to post this with today's date because when I submitted with the original date of the repair the review did not post. You're welcome).
