Reasonable Broker
I want to share my experience with MB Collections. I read all of the reviews I could find, including those on the “MB Victims” page. Overall, I read more than 160 non-redundant reviews. To be candid, I can’t tell which ones, positive or negative, are actual reviews and which are planted ( I think a lot of both good and bad reviews were planted). My experience was, I suppose, a little unusual, as I had an unplanned opportunity to hold up a transaction, negotiate on the car further and, at my request, restart the transaction. I don’t know if the car I will receive will be, in the long haul, a good car . Neither does Jonathan or Bryan. We know it runs well for now and I am aware of a fairly expensive problem that I can repair myself for less cost. Prospective buyers should be aware, that this dealer, like more than half of the dealers on eBay and most dealers on other sites (e.g., Craig’s) are “third tier” dealers (or brokers). They obtain their vehicles from auctions, insurance sales, repo sales, salvage sites, estate auctions, and the like. If you’re like me, you don’t mind buying these kinds of vehicles and it’s possible to get good cars this way (I’ve bought 11 previous vehicles off the third-tier market). BUT , you must understand a few things about these cars and the dealers who sell them: (1) the cars ALWAYS have problems. Some may be serious. Otherwise, they would not be auction cars. (2) the dealer will know little or nothing about the car beyond its condition today, and is not going to look deeper for its flaws (they must disclose only the flaws of which they’re aware), (3) Some flaws are more serious than others, so it’s important to see a third-tier car before buying, or learn the characteristics of these cars that make them less likely to have serious problems, (4) some third tier dealers are better than others at picking auction cars, and (5) most third tier dealers are hustlers. They don’t care about making sales easy or pleasant. They need to move the cars fast and they know someone will buy them, even if it’s another broker/dealer. However, some are really good folks. When you find one of them, keep in touch with them! In my opinion, Jonathan and his staff are not dishonest. They may not be the best at picking good cars at the auctions. This probably explains the problems some cars have after they’re shipped to their owners. Knowing this, I would spend the time and money to go to Boca Raton and see the car you’re considering before committing to buy it. I’d recommend not buying a car from them through eBay. Go to them directly. I am satisfied with my purchase from them. The car has problems that I learned only after I held up the sale and personally inspected the car via videophone. Jonathan was very helpful showing me the car via video. It turned out to have a somewhat serious problem and he graciously offered for me to “take it or leave it.” After thinking it over, and quickly getting parts estimates, I “took it.” After agreeing that the car was otherwise in the condition he believed it was, he delivered it very quickly (36 hours) at his expense, kept me informed of the delivery progress, and shared the driver’s contact information so I could call him with the number of the neighbor who is receiving the car for me. He nor Bryan (his salesperson for Internet deals) withheld any information from me, and everything they told me about the car was true (remember, they only have to tell what they know, and that’s not much). More often than not, I keep these cars a long time. The person who took delivery of the car for me has driven it and tells me it’s nice. I’ll pick it up from him in a couple weeks. Over the next several months, I’ll learn all the reasons why it was an auction car but, hopefully, the problems won’t be such that they cost a boatload of money. If they do though, I know where I bought it and accept responsibility. Hope this helps.
