Misdiagnosed and Very Poor Work
This shop isn't what it used to be. Two events. First, is a big safety issue with my daughter's steering wheel and it was misdiagnosed as a steering wheel position sensor. Paid $700 to have the problem fixed. Labor was about $320 of that and the car was in their shop for 10 days. Problem came back a third time with red dash lights flashing. Also, rental car charges for those 10 days amount to about $700. $1,400 into a car repair that still isn't solved. I went into their office during the 10 days to check status and was told a line how they didn't get to it because of working on another vehicle, needed more time on diagnosing and that I was going to sell the car. The extent of their work involved disconnecting a battery, pulling the air bag and connecting the new sensor. The owner is trusting of his shop mechanic (family) to do the work correct the first time. That doesn't happen unless the customer comes back in as in my case. I don't think you fire a family member!!

Second, my Expedition had a check engine light that was diagnosed by the McElroy's repair mechanic as a catalytic convertor that needed replacement. I paid for the catalytic convertor work which included an O2, oxygen sensor replacement. The problem, check engine light, came back and I had the repair done again. Now, the light came back on a third time for the same issue. I was told this isn't under warranty anymore. I checked with another 5-star rated repair shop and in minutes they showed me the problem. The install by McElroys put the O2 sensor downstream of the catalytic convertor into the exhaust pipe and not into the convertor. I was told these sensors have a tight tolerance for proper performance. Well, when you don't put the O2 sensor and the catalytic convertor installation together correctly it won't work!! I recognized the problem when I saw the work. I now ask, why did the McElroy's mechanic put it together this way? Anyway, paid twice by having another shop do the work correctly. FYI, per the other shop, a catalytic convertor system of my brand is warranted by the manufacturer for 5 years or 50,000 miles. McElroy's never mentioned this. Too late on my original install as they damaged the original system. They won't be touching my vehicles ever again. This has been a very costly experience.

My observation is that the owner doesn't read these reviews, or he might reply to them and improvements might happen. Don't think either will happen. This is strictly a family run repair shop and appears to be based on commissions. So, I write this review for customer information.
