Over Charged for a Starter and Labor
I do not like writing negative reviews, but I am not happy with the service that recently took place on my car. I took the car to the dealership because it was having trouble starting. I had guessed it was the starter and it turns out I was correct. The service technician called me the next morning and told me that I needed more than $3,000 dollars worth of repairs done to my car which, as you can imagine took me and my wallet by surprise. He sent me an email containing a list of repairs and the price to fix all of them. Some were as simple as changing a filter and others were more complicated such as replacing fluids and several services that were abbreviated in such a way that even a mechanic I know didn’t understand what they were. (GDR Service for $199.95 and EPR service for $229.90) They offered no initial explanation that (most of) this work was optional and not immediately required for safety reasons. The initial price for the starter repair was quoted just over $1,000 to fix (parts/labor) They then quoted me $500 for the starter part. This was about $150 dollars more than what the official Hyundai parts website had listed online. When I brought this up to them them, they reduced the price but still charged me a $50.00 shop fee and a shipping and handling fee even though they already had the part in stock. I know this because they fixed it the morning after I brought it in the previous afternoon right before they closed for the day. I ended up paying around $900 just for them to replace my starter, $375 (after they reduced the price from $500) for the part, $480 for three hours of labor and $50 for shop fees. I can’t help but feel like the dealership tried to rip me off and charge as much as they could get away with.

I also thought I should mention, I have taken my car here many times for service in the past and always received a survey request in my email, but this time strangely enough I didn’t receive one.

Do your research about parts and labor before having your car serviced here, they may be overcharging you without your knowledge.
