Deceptive, dishonest service department
DO NOT GET YOUR CAR SERVICED HERE. The service department's practices at Southern States Mazda deceived me into signing off on service that I was never provided a complete, written estimate of the sum of all costs for, as required by NC state law (see law here -https://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/ByArticle/Chapter_20/Article_15B.html). The only specific dollar amount I was informed of before repairs were completed was the cost of parts, around $330. The first time I was informed of the total amount, $812.69, was when the service advisor was requesting payment in order for me to receive my keys back. This is illegal, but they know customers have no support to fight against it. The practices are deceptive and illegal. My original Google review was taken down by the GM, consumer protection facilitated communication that led nowhere, and Southern States utilized their lawyer to belittle, gaslight, and steamroll in small claims court. A tactic utilized by the general manager, as he may do for this review. In small claims court, the service manager said he did not even know the law existed until I informed him and "it's all verbal unless a customer asks for more." The onus to honestly inform the customer of total costs prior to work being completed is on the business, again, as stated by law. Furthermore, I was never "verbally" informed of $812.69 before work being completed, so this is not even true. I can confirm this because if I was informed, I never would have agreed to that amount and never would have received the service that day. The law exists for a reason, so consumers are able to make informed decisions based on honest, transparent communication. It is clear their practices are deceptive, manipulative, and wrong: Capital of Cary, their closest geographical competition, has 0 complaints and 5 stars on BBB, while Southern States of Mazda has 15 complaints just within the last 3 years and the lowest amount of stars. Do better and be better. Your illegal practice has an impact on peoples' lives.
