Leaking oil pan and service issues on a Sante fe
My wife and I purchased a brand new Sante fe in July from Van Horn that had about 17 miles on it when we drove it off the lot. Within the first 100 miles (2 days) the oil pan began leaking. When we had it taken in they said the gasket was not complete and blamed Hyundai factory. The manager told me it must have been at the end of a tube and that was why the gasket wasn't compete and he assumed the process was done by a automated machine. I accepted his premise but at no time did he say anything about a dent. The vehicle was there for 2 days as Van Horn “fixed” the gasket, obviously under warranty. They said it was good and not leaking anymore. The vehicle was recently taken in for an oil change at 5,000 miles or so and a couple days later we noticed larger spots of oil in our garage again. I looked and could see seepage around the oil pan again and figured it was leaking for a second time. My wife drove it to Van Horn for them to look at it and they confirm the oil pan was leaking again. This time she was told the oil pan was dented and that was why it didn’t seal right when they fixed it the first time. So the dented oil pan was missed or ignored on a brand new vehicle from the factory (Hyundai) and the first time it was “fixed” by Van Horn. We were never informed the first time that it was dented, only there was an inch of seal that was missing. Again, no mention of a dent. This time Van Horn ordered a whole new oil pan and about a week later my wife takes it in on a scheduled visit to replace the dented, leaking oil pan. She gets there and after a bit is told the oil pan that came in is also damaged, so they have to order another one. So she is out work hours and has to miss more work to take it in on another date as well as gas. This will be the 4th visit to fix an oil pan! Maybe this time it will be done right considering we paid $35,000 for this car and have owned it for 4 months. We have now made multiple trips to fix one simple issue. Hopefully, no corners are cut this time during the repair. I was not there during this visit today but my wife did state the person handling this in the service department was nice, understanding and sympathetic. But this person is fixing others mistakes from both Hyundai and Van Horn. This is unacceptable product quality control and poor service. This all would have been avoided had it been fixed right from the start.
